    As a singer for 3 years smiling is by far a cheat code in life in general. Whenever we're happy we smile, whenever we sing good we smile. To enjoy anything you want, throw on a smile.

      This is something I've really been picking up on as of late. A lot of the time I took relaxation in my jaw & face, but sagged my cheeks, I've noticed once I compartmentalise them so relaxing my jaw & lifting cheeks slightly has helped out.

    Most of the time The Weeknd uses mixed voice, falsetto is only for the really high notes! Would love a video on how to develop your mixed voice high end! Much love!

    As an audio engineer It’s recommend that you don’t try to mimic voices that your range is nowhere near. If your voice register is low your range is bass meaning you can hit lower notes,
    if your voice register is high then your high alto, tenor, soprano.
    If you try to hit notes that aren’t in your register you run the risk of damaging your throat and vocal chords since a lot of people watching these videos don’t use their diaphragm correctly to sing. Learn how to use your head voice and falsetto if you want to least have fun singing the songs you love that aren’t in your register. Use your voice register to find your range and your own style that’ll improve yourself in knowing what your limits and ranges are

    5:30 - You gave that example as how your voice used to sound moany and weird, but I thought that sounded amazing and very ethereal and atmospheric, and I'm a very harsh critic of music seeing that I think that 98% of music these days is shit, lol!

    One important thing I think needs to be specified that other vocal coaches have said. Yes you want an open mouth but you do not want to smile. This can create a different cadence and tone that does not sound good (whiney) Its better to when practicing push your hands against your cheeks to prevent you lifting your cheek bones. Keep a round mouth not a smile mouth if that makes sense.

    • @rafaeljannotti3002
      @rafaeljannotti3002 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The weekend often smiles for high notes, smiling only creates a whiny effect if the back of the tongue is very raised and soft pallate is lowered. Its all about balance.
      The weeknd technique consists of a lowered back of the tongue combined with a moderate smile. The lowered tongue gives extra darkness to the sound, preventing the whiney tone when smiling.
      In the opposite side, some singers lift the back of the tongue alot and lower the pallate, so in addition to this smiling alot would cause the higher overtones to be exagerated and thus resulting in a whiney tone.
      Beware of teachers with classical background that preach too much against smiling technique, I fell into that trap for a long time and that really hindered my progress.
      Many great singers employ smiling, at least to a certain degree. You can find videos of pavarotti giving a slight smile and lifting his cheeks (in moderation) to hit the top notes, also many other great tenors lifted their cheeks a bit for high notes. The fully lowered cheeks for high notes isnt optimal as it can bring mud to the sound.
