I honestly really love how masterful he is of the workings of vx without being aware of the more proper terminology of things, like how he said F instead of aperture.
ah, your one of those guys that wont accept new technology, i assume you think cassettes have the best sound quality and and that the picture on vhs is so much better than blueray. Get a hold of reality, yeah this is a good camera, but it cannot compare to the cameras today. Better interfaces, wayyyyy crisper image, more settings to make your photo more personalized to the setting you are in.
Finn human Ah, you're (sic!) one of those guys who don't read the comment, but start to flame right away. I wrote "one of the best", which to my understanding of the english language means, that I consider this camera as a really great one, AMONG OTHERS. It's like speaking about an oldtimer car, saying it's one of the best ever built, and then you show up, bragging about the Bluetooth Audio in your 2012 car.
the cam was good for the lofi street feel that the Baker videos were going for. it captured the rawness of street skating by far. i kinda wanna get one to mess around with for nostalgia purposes
this is cool! As a film student its interesting to hear him talking about specks and settings in basic non-film vocabulary so its quicker and easier to understand to those who are new or not film makers
These tips don't apply to any other type of filmmaking, but this is a great video for someone who wants to start shooting skateboarding with one of the older sd cameras. the vx will always have a place in my heart, haha.. nice video!
You want a new In Focus? You got it! Here's Baker's Beagle showing you VX settings secrets, plus tips on the lens, your phone, other peoples phones, and more in Part 1.
I don't skate or film but I know who Beagle is,he's a character love from Australia.Custom paint on Camera and all ,this guy must be liked by everybody he comes into contact with.keep it up Beagle you are are a truely unique individual with a great heart.
I know Beagle might not see these comments and ship but Beagle, you tucking inspire me to film. As soon as i can im going to find a vhx and all im going to do all day is film me and my friends skate. I love you fool thanks for keeping me inspired.
I'm glad Beagle is successful. I was referring to more of his understanding of white balance, sharpening, color, shutter speed, and aperture - all of which he seems to have a pragmatic understanding of (within the vx1000), but on the other hand now it makes complete sense why he wouldn't switch to a different camera: he wouldn't know how to use it.
When he talked about the "colour and sharpness"-part I really noticed the difference between Beagle's VX-SD-Videography-Advice and Hernandez's DSLR-HD-Cinematography-Advice. While Beagle wants to get the best image in camera to just put the clips together, Hernandez wants to get a flat look so he has more options for colour-grading in post. The VX is great for filming edits that give you that 80s/90s vibe, while HD cameras give you the chance to get a more cinematic look. It's not about the camera .. it's about your preferences and skills. At the end of the day you could shoot a video in 4k on a RED Dragon and still give it that 80s/90s vibe (e.g. the street-part in "Wet Dream: A Skateboard Tale").
Getting the right look in-camera is a more elegant way of doing things imo. It’s like recording music, you could play it right with a high standard of how it sounds or you could edit the shit out of it in post. Any modern camera can get a flat image so the computer can do the heavy lifting in terms of style, but it takes skill to get style on the fly that doesn’t need ti be fucked with.
Beagle def was on skate perception forums back in the day lol. Zebra mode is a must. Why they haven't remade the vx as close as possible with sd cards or something I have no idea, wouldnt get the mini dv look precisely but Sony could do it.
hell yeah!! my friend showed me how to do all of this and i forgot about half of it, and always wished i knew exactly what i was doing. thanks beagle!!! i can show my homies know too cause this was a great tutorial!
Im not sure if he's being serious. when he's talking about the 'f number' as tho he has no idea what aperture is or what it does and a low shuter speed doesn't give you a grainy look although it will start to blur the footage.
Jack Lewis He’s self taught and at least he can get that good footy that puts moneys in the bank. Don’t matter what you call it when you can still use it right
F-stop is manual sharpening, so if you can, you wanna set it low as possible for max sharpness. Otherwise you’re digitally sharpening. The f-stop number means how closed the lens iris is (more closed is higher number which is sharper, more open which is lower number is more light and less sharp).
sharpness and F stop is not related.... some lenses it is a little but in the opposite direction. What you are thinking is depth of field, and what this does is blur far away parts of an image so you see the subject being sharper but its only appearing that way because its increasing softness not increasing sharpness
@@zacka161 So you made the argument that instead of bokeh, a higher f-stop isn’t related to sharpness even though it creates background sharpness… nice. Also I do macro. F-stop absolutely affects foreground subject sharpness.
I never thought somebody can talk about a vhs camera with such passion. I'm gonna buy this shit right now. I wannt by footage look as crispy as possible.
Gustavs Skenders I just got the Sony DCR-VX2100 and it's amazing... Sure it's no HD camera but it works so well (even in full auto mode) and it's lightweight, amazing sound and really steady shot.. The steady shot is better then my 2015 HD camera lol
Chris Child Plus the Sony DCR-VX2100 is just an updated version of the VX1000.. It has a LCD screen and better low light picture.. It basically was the best and last SD camera made.. Then HD came in
beagle himself is still filming with the vx for the big baker, shakejunt etc movie's. he said the camera still got so much unused potential and it's still the best camera for filming skate video's
he doesn't know what F-stop is.. I'm gonna cry. wtf beagle?? why do you wipe your lens with your shirt when microfibres are like $2 you YOU GOD DAMMED DONUT!?
got outta filming n photography a few yrs ago bc of all the new shit..but man these were the days 1 or 2 lenses, a few setting adjustments all internal processing shit was beautifully simple
Will get a Canon xa10 it's a great camcorder N if u think people hate gopro then why are they the most selling camera. Old people no of them. It's like people no iPhone over HTC phones. The most uploaded photos on instagram is from iPhone. But the video is good.. Just wish he would have showed more video quality test
I understand man, and i dont think people hate go pro but its not the best option for skateboarding (of course it is easily priced though if you're on a budget). And just cus older people know of them doesnt mean its better lol, prob cause vx doesnt have tv ads and go pro does (since vx is not being made anymore)
Olivier Menard GoPros are good because u can literally mountain anywhere you could literally get shots they never could before I'm not seeing the dudes camcorder sucks that he was recording on I just think some of the stuff you said was way off like turning the sharpness all the way up that's something you don't want to do.
Oh I know, its a good camera for plenty (even for skateboarding, like point of view videos) but yea vx is just better if you're filming for a skate part.
how did he find all these secrets it's crazy, when I had my VX I had to figure out most of this stuff or from my TV Production teacher, but then I sold it. Yo, Beagle's a lot better at this than I thought he'd be.
The most valuable lesson he taught us here is to always give your boys props for landing tricks even if you didn't see what they did
?

I honestly really love how masterful he is of the workings of vx without being aware of the more proper terminology of things, like how he said F instead of aperture.
the dude filming this must've been trying to hold it in lmao. "the F is like F.2.. and then you lose the F" love beagle
To be fair the unit is also called the "f number"
“Now you see this number, it’s F.”

Using your shirt makes micro scratches, use a microfiber cloth, the cloth used to clean glasses

nah dude every skate video has that signature scratched lens bokeh look.
One of the best cameras ever made, to today.

not sure if trolling
blowing on the lens and wiping it with a shirt is a surefire way to fuck up the coatings on the lens.

beagle you're a boss mate. you can tell that he lives for filming and being with his homies. proper exciteable and likeable guy.

mfw calls vignetting vendetting and F-Stops "F's"
I kinda love it tho cause if you explain it to someone saying aperture they tend to get a bit confused
No matter if he's watching, filming, in the same zip code. You land your trick, you get a Beagle "Daaaammmmn Yeah!" Love that guy! 1:31
if you hate beagle you hate skateboarding.
i only film with a go pro
Beagle is prolly the chillest dude to talk to and just chill with.
This guy... The way he talks...it's good. Lol
I wish everyone would explain things the way beagle does, Makes it much easier for me to understand.

Im not sure if he's being serious. when he's talking about the 'f number' as tho he has no idea what aperture is or what it does and a low shuter speed doesn't give you a grainy look although it will start to blur the footage.
+Jack Lewis you also should always shoot 180 degree shutter angle. if you want more light change gain or aperture.
+Jack Lewis hes just being genuine
Genuine uninformed?

Ha! This camera was the gold standard when I started filming. Actually wish I had never sold mine. This thing with a Mark I was pure gold.
Damn for such a prolific skate filmer, he really doesn't know shit about his photography fundamentals. Still love his work though!
He know what he's doing he just doesn't know what it's called

He is just not technical...

What is it with skateboarders and these old cameras?
