  • Gimme Three Steps Lead and Rhythm Guitar Lesson. When you analyze the guitar licks in this song, you see that they're really pretty much just typical guitar licks using the notes from the chords that are playing in the background.

      Yes! This is what I need too, shapes may show how to play the song but doesn't explain anything. I need to know why something is played the way it is so I can progress.

      Chad Tinsley no they don’t , they were geniuses and just extremely talented, especially Ed king . As far as I know he wrote all the music to sweet home Alabama , and a lot on other songs that he really never got credit for .

      @Randy Randal Steve Gaines was far superior in ability and knowledge than Rossington and Collins, though both were decent in their own right. Check out Steve Gaines solo in Sweet home Alabama at Oakland. If it is improvised..... wow!!

    I hadn't played this song since February 2020...the last gig my band played before the pandemic. I come by this lesson to revisit the song before rehearsals and find I've not been playing accurately in several places. It's quite nice when you hear someone play it slow and accurately...you can immediately tell it's correct. I love the additional theory talk as well. Thanks for the lesson!

    I can't believe you don't have more subscribers. My guess is the majority of players seeking instruction need the "third fret on the fourth string" type of instruction. I am not dogging them. I was there too. But, I am just chiming in to say thank for providing guidance to players who know where the notes are on the fretboard and understand chords, scales, and arpeggios and are just happy to have you give a shorthand sketch for them to fill in to learn these songs. Intermediate type of players. It is frustrating to wade through the beginner videos to get guidance on a song. I paid the lifetime membership on your site and it is well worth it, although I don't use it nearly enough. Thank you for what you do. I sincerely appreciate it. And for you other guys out there. No, I am not a friend or family member of his. I don't know him. This effusive praise is genuine. He is a very valuable resource. We live in time where we have experts giving us their life's work for free. I am 65. It wasn't always this way.

    They may be just basic Rock'n'Roll licks, but Gary sure makes them his own in this country-rock classic! Thanks for breaking it down for us. You don't spend precious minutes explaining every single note like some TH-cam teachers do. If people need that much in the way of a finger by finger guide, I would suggest that they are not of a sufficient level of ability to be attempting a difficult piece, and should instead attend to their practising. The skill will come in time and hopefully the videos will still be up to learn from then.

    I have a general question. How do you study or what do you study to know the fretboard was well as you do. It appears that your understanding is a combination of notes, chords, and music theory. That would make a great lesson. Thanks

    • @LEADSOLO
      @LEADSOLO  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually when I was 10 years old my guitar teacher told me one week to only be able to name the notes on the first three frets when I played the natural note scale. Because I could read music and play it but I didn't know what notes I was playing. Ever since then that habit stuck. My entire life of figuring out solos has had a habit of naming the note in my head as I play it. Because of course I wanted to know how those notes came from the chords. So if you only get in the habit of thinking of the names of the notes after a while they will be automatic. Then you can see what's going on a lot easier. Just stop and work your way up the neck to find the name of the note that you're playing if you don't know it. Thanks for the question and the suggestion

    Too advanced and fast for my skill level. That being said I still learned a couple of things on the first viewing. Certain to learn more in future views. Thank you for posting, BEST AND PEACE!

      Glad to help in any way I can. Yeah I find coming back to things always make them clearer. So if you can pick up something each time you're on your way. I think over my life just about every solo I learned by ear taught me something... And each day I would come back to it it was a lot easier.

    When he talks about how Gary Rossington doesn’t use a pic to play this entire song and yet still there isn’t a damn lesson video

      I hadn't heard that but regardless if you want to play it without a pick all you have to do is play the same notes and pick at them with your fingers. And on those double notes you just use your two fingers together at the same time... The notes are the same so there's really nothing different.

      Just saw a tutorial on Satyrday Night Special....guy shows the secret...Rossington developed a technique where he tucks the pick between pointer and .middle finger(Warren Haynes does it too)
      It's mostly on the double stops...you can really hear the difference on the Saturday Night Special lead....the part with the double stop bends...Hope that helps.....
