Looks like?...from the wood or the blade?...Because the cuts looked very smooth.
So what happens Is some people take care of their own blades and sharpen them. Therefore, they may look old, but they're still sharp. A dull blade would kick the wood out. You can't do woodworking with a dull blade.

This is quite possibly a demonstration of the worst, most dangerous practices I've seen. Please don't imitate this at home. From cutting the miters on the table saw to where his hand is holding the spline jig. Just dangerous. I have done this for a living for 30 plus years. It's my kids account.
There’s nothing wrong with cutting miters on a table saw. That’s why the blade tilts.
@@wulf67 The issue isn't cutting miters, it's how its being done. If you want to risk your fingers, be my guest and do it like the video shows.
@@civilianjman8 What makes it “dangerous”? He’s cutting more or less square pieces against the fence. It’s not like he’s free-handing it or trying to crosscut a two-foot 1x6 butted into the fence.
@@wulf67 Short pieces like that would be much safer cut using a miter gauge or crosscut sled. And... Look how close his fingers are to the router bit while he's cutting something that hasn't been securely clamped to his workpiece. My problem is that people with no experience will try to imitate these practices thinking it's safe and the "right" way to do things.
As I said above, if you want to do it that way, be my guest. I wouldn't allow it in my shop.
Splining jig - great. 👍 Freehand ripping with no fence or crosscut jig, bad accident waiting to happen.🏥 Be safe in your workshop people!
His safety is having common sense and not being a f'n imbecile. It's more than OBVIOUS he's done it a million times and has the control and muscle memory to accomplish it.
@@lelandgaunt7130 I can only assume the creator has since edited the video to remove the freehand ripping on the table saw as mine wasn't the only comment criticising it. If you use a tablesaw, you'll know why that was a complete no-no.
@theduftmeister I use a table saw. I've also been to 3 continents where dirt poor people use what they have. Seen 80 year old carpenters use fubar table saws without fences, riving knives or any other "dummy", false sense of security bullcrap. Just like a firearm. The safety is your finger and head, not a switch. As for using a fence to make a cleaner, straighter cut, yes, but when you can do it without it, it's fine. I've seen some insane freehand routing without templates, jigs or inserts. Some can do it, some can't. Common sense dictates he can do it. It's right there in front of you. You watched it. Disregard, you just want to argue.
@@lelandgaunt7130 respectfully.... this isn't some impoverished woodworker having to get by. Freehand ripping on a tablesaw is just asking for problems.) As a tablesaw user, you should know what a risk that is, if you dont, just google it..... Why perform a high risk manoeuvre and losing fingers when a fence would drastically reduce the risk? I just don't think it's cool to post dangerous practices that may be copied by the inexperienced. Not looking for an argument, just for fellow woodworkers to remain safe. Sorry if you take offence at that.

Nice but that's not a box joint, it's a miter joint with dovetail splines.
A miter joint is a type of box joint. I'm assuming you're thinking of a finger joint, which is another type of box joint.
That's a clever spline jig.

That portable table saw had a riving knife and extra degrees past 45! Much better than my old Dewalt. He likely used a miter square to make those saw cuts. Good job 👍
