If it's a cheaper lens overall I'll get a new one and of it's a more expensive one I'll try to get one in second hand
Bought all my Canon L lenses second hand, saved a good bit by shopping around and agree with your comments about the body and glass condition. Great way to hunt a bargain

All of my gear is either vintage lens older cameras or rent to own. As a beginner photographer I can only afford used by today's price!!!
I have never bought a new lens and all of them came off eBay. The most that I have paid for a lens was $325 US

As an amateur, used is all I can really afford. But, sometimes if you're patient you can get great lens at a great price. I bought two lenses I really wanted recently, both in barely used, mint condition at very good prices. This is because the system I'm in recently released new bodies and lenses that the pros want. So, there is a great used lens and body situation right now. But, I also have purchased used vintage gear that is used and great. Have a great week!
At the end of the month, I'm lucky enough to have a fe quid to spend on a few well-used EF lenses for my R6.
What would the comments recommend?
If you don’t have a 35 / 50 or 85 prime I would look at those they’re a lot of fun.
I've been a Nikon user from day one and always got used lenses and more often than not, used cameras. Last year I broke my camera and decided to go mirrorless. Really tough to find used lenses at the time, but I still keep a eye out for ones that are not for every day carry.
Yeah, I definitely feel that. I was at a second hand shop in sheffield there was a whole shelf of old canon lenses (before they went mirrorless) but only two Sony lenses, and I bought one of them.
All my gear is second hand except 1 of my 5 lenses. Because it’s too recent 😅. Some used gear have mood 😊😊.

Just what I needed to hear! I want to start vlogging on a camera setup, (rather than with my iPhone) so I think I’ll go the used route and save some money.
I only buy second hand, however I also think its a bit of a risk buying "Well Used" online as you can't tell if there is optical issues till you get it although buying from places like MPB or LCE at least you get a decent warranty.
These lenses are not weather sealed, how are you dealing with a rain?
I don't really think about it, It's never been an issue.

Sadly, you can't rely on second hand purveyors of camera gear. Firms like MPB are worse than used car sales folk (making on the buy and the sell) - they would sell their own granny down the road. They are useless in terms of identifying the class of a used item, often what they say is excellent is not and you end up paying for a product you do not receive. You need to take care of your gear, keep the boxes and packaging and you'll set it for a higher price! I have found the grey markets in Hong Kong to be fantastic, massive savings for second hand gear too. Shop around and stay away from the main traders, especially MPB who are doing the rounds and sponsoring bloggers to advertise for them!
