I have a 200 saltwater 2 stroke Yamaha, I would never change it for the four stroke. Initial price difference is never made up before you want to change motors. So you pay it in petrol, who cares. The two stroke motor is way more powerful out of the hole and in rough water with much more urgency! Smooth as butter as well! Unfortunately I don't smell her very often, but when you get a whiff, she stinks of power!
I feel the same way with my '96 Yamaha 30 Horse PowerPlant! Fog with oil, drain the carbs, relube the gear case, then store for next year! Power to weight for all well made 2stroke engines ...Unmatched in the consumer world 😁
Just replaced a ‘93 Johnson 115hp 2 stroke with a brand new Yamaha 115 4 stroke. The latest 4 strokes are no joke. Very torquey engine, powerful hole shot, etc. The only thing I miss about the 2 stroke is the smell lol.
8 years later and theres still a performance deficet between 2 stroke and 4, not to mention the 4 strokes are a lot heavier (90 2 stroke 119kg F90 169kg
The weight thing isn't true in alot of cases. Compare the weight of a 40 or 50 ETEC and a Yamaha or Honda 4 stroke. The Mercury 4 stroke is the heaviest of the bunch and the Etec 2 stroke is 2nd heaviest.
@@korndawggy1801 im comparing the same manufacturers 2stroke vs their same HP rated 4 stroke model. the Yamaha 90s is the example i used with one of the biggest differences however in 50hp range the yamaha 2 stroke is 75kg where th 4 stroke is 113kg. in the portable range the 4hp 2 stroke is 21kg and the 4 stroke is 27kg, roughly 30% heavier across the range
@@YamahaMarineAu rebuild your old 2 stroke. Sound+weight+power band > fuel efficiency+emissions. I guess if youre really old or you use the boat for work maybe a 4 stroke is better. For fun, thrills, top speed, you're way better going with a 2 stroke.
My TLRA still rock n 60 hp 02 it’s a wieght thing on my rig w 60? She 4” trimmed all the way out of the water if I got a 4 stroke 60/70 but the 75-90 are 100 lbs heavier
@@jeddelse9036 hes right 2 stroke is better and i can say that because i had a 4.5m boat with a 25 year old yamaha 40 2 stroke on it running a 11X15 prop it cruised at 19.6kts at 3600rpm and peaked at 30kts at 4900rpm, i went to a 40 4 stroke and it was gutless it couldnt drive that prop and the boat would only do 22kts at ful power, i had to buy a F50 to match the performance of the 40. fuel econ the 4 stroke is slightly better, the 40 would give 106km to 25l tank at 19.6kts the f50 did 119. however you think you might save money not buying 2 stroke oil but your wrong there too, the 2 stroke costs $250 to service the f50 is $700 for the 100 hour service
I feel like the 2 stroke is like buying and old 7.3L power stroke or 5.9 Cummins. In my opinion very reliable, terrible on gas, and sounds good 😂. Can’t beat em. I guess it depends on what each individual person wants to gain. Efficiency or rugged durability.
Its really funny how they market 4 strokes. Dont get get me wrong I love them and thats the way the industry and manufacturers have moved. If we have a V8 car we would want it to make noise through exhaust so people would hear the muscle car and give personal satisfaction. So when it comes to 4 stroke outboards why do we want it to be whisper quiet?
It’s all about flawless boating. Even tough you don’t feel like the farthest person in the marina, there is a nice feeling knowing that you have a “sleeper” with good hole shot, that’s whisper quiet in idle.
4 stroke more moving parts more weight better fuel economy cleaner emissions quieter more rpm output .2 stroke every stoke is a compression stroke dumps more raw fuel into atmosphere and requires you to mix oil in fuel. I’m going with 4 stroke
This is so forced against 2 strokes woke advertising the 2 stroke is solid dependable and a lot cheaper these days, and not to expensive to run when you can get them cheap…

For me it's not just about saving money on fuel it's also not having to carry 100l in a 4.5 m boat to get to where I want to go.

4-stroke is for fgots.
Sorry the 2 strokes better just for the sound. It’s like a muscle car vs an electric car. Muscle sounds better and stronger vs a quiet engine.
2-stroke outboards no longer available in Australia. Sound is one thing, efficiency and low-emissions are another.

I know some ppl that barely ever change there 4 stroke oil it stinks being behind them in there outboard smells burnt sometimes

I had one 100hp 4 strokes and after 450 hrs blowed up now i got a secondhand 130hp yamaha 2 strokes and it flies
