I was there in 2002, this was one of the ports on my cruise itinerary. I visited the original Old Market. I made sure I bought items that were made by and sold by the Bahamian peoples. I did not want to buy things that were made in China or Taiwan or Japan, those things do nothing to help the economy or the Bahamian people's there on Nassau! I bought food from locals, I shopped where the locals shopped. I didn't visit the hotels or Atlantis. Those places take money FROM the island. Yes, they employ some island people, but I discovered that the Bahamian people were not truly welcomed in these establishments. So I didn't spend time or money there. When I visit different places I try to spend my money where it will have most impact on the local people there.
