  • A cycle ride from the northern border of the Vale of Glamorgan county heading almost directly south to East Aberthaw beach through the narrow country lanes.
Aberthaw beach is a strange mixture of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast which contains some stunning cliffs, pebbly beaches and nature while housing both old and newer industry. The now decommissioned Aberthaw Power Station sits on the coast line along with the abandoned Aberthaw Lime Works building.
On a winters day like this one it can be quite a dramatic place and need to be in the right mood to enjoy the place.

It’s a strange place, both wild and industrial. It can be a bit bleak too.
Puncture wasn’t too bad. It’s quite straight forward with such large tyres ☺️🚴🏻‍♀️

Yes that sounds about right, I keep forgetting how far the coast curves down into the channel around Aberthaw. Thanks, I do love that bike. Another video coming as soon as I can edit it together.

I was thinking "leave it in, don't pull it out". In my experience with thorns, leaving them in the tyre can often get you all the way back home without significant loss of pressure. I know you have to repair the tube at some point but I prefer to do it in the comfort of home if possible, with a cup of tea.

Go on, live a little, grab the thorn, pull it out ☺️🤭 I don’t mind repairing on a ride. I had one cycling back from Frome I think it was and I had to keep stopping to pump up the tyre, that was one time I fixed it when I got back. I guess it depends how fast it’s going down.

I laughed when took those roadies up the hill at the start . I try to do it if the opportunity arises , just to get a look at their faces once they see it's a old MTB with bags on !
I was further along the coast recently, down from Cowbridge and was surprised by the large number of cyclists in that area.
Cook up/brew on the beach is great and one of my favorite things, just can't beat being by the sea IMHO. 👍

🤭 I’m glad I’m not the only one that heats up a drink or food on a ride. It makes a nice touch to the day. Hope you had good weather on the beach.
