Mudeford Sandbank and the Coastline of Bournemouth Cycle Ride - Day Two
A leisure cycle ride along the Bournemouth Coast to Southbourne, Hengistbury Head and ending at the tip of Mudeford Sandbank in the county of Dorset, England.
This ride is day two of my Bournemouth Coastline cycle rides. Originally the weather forecast had shown that Bournemouth would miss the storms that were due to cross the south west of England and Wales but late evening on Day One the forecast had changed as the storm was going to clip Bournemouth.
Waking in the hotel on my final day, packing up my cycle bag with my clothes and toiletries ready to checkout I looked out of the bedroom window to see grey skies and later on when having breakfast on Bournemouth seafront feeling little spots of fine rain on my face now and then. The hope would be that I would out run the rain as I progressed leisurely along the coast.
And that was exactly what happened. The temperature was still summer warm despite the incoming weather. Of course what you mostly don't see after the end of my ride was my return to Bournemouth where I had a few hours to wander around town while waiting for my train.
The rain set in and basically I got wet, soaked through. But I wandered around smiling through the rain and not worrying too much about it. I had a change of clothes in my dry bag for the trip home. When the rain really set in and it was, simply, pouring down I headed to the station early and got changed. All was good.
I hope you enjoy this conclusion to my, technically, three day trip to Bournemouth in Dorset, England. Day One was amazing and adding the Steam Train ride in as well as the Ferry made this a very special cycle trip.
This film contains two brand new songs, Fix My Heart for the end credits and also the silly beachy mock jazz song, Jazz Masquerade.
I also want to thank everyone who has subscribed to date. When I got back home on this day the subscriber counter clicked over to 500. What a cherry-on-the-cake moment that was.

    Nice work ! Shame you didn’t find start of canal(think you needed to turn right under he railway bridge go past pub and at end of road path goes over dry dock ) as lots of boats in Marina and Lock out to River Severn that Tall ships have to navigate to Festival in Gloucester Docks . This would make a great Documentary but it is difficult getting notified of exact times Tall Ships come through and Tide dependent.

      Thanks, Brian. I suppose I could have gone further on from the severn bridge remains to get there as well. I didn’t look much further from the dock side as I came across a lot of no unauthorised access signs and no cycling, mostly because of heavy vehicles I think. That would be quite a sight to see the tall ships coming in and sailing up the canal!

      I don’t think it’s an official cycle route, it’s very steep and short so not really much to cycle on its own. I’ve seen horses there but whether it’s actually bridleway. I assumed it was but im not 100% sure. A better place is probably Llantrisant forest on the other side of the valley. Lots of cycle trails on a small forestry hill to explore.

    Hi. Love your cycling videos, especially as I live in Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan. I've got a Brompton electric which, along with my cycling pal, 5:09 we explore wherever we can. Problem with a Brompton it doesn't do rough or off road at all. Put your velosipeed seems to cope with everything. What model is it please? And are you ever going to venture to places in Cornwall. That's where we're headed next year.

    • @MadisonTen
      @MadisonTen 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you very much, Paul! Yes you’re not that far away. ☺️ Bromptons are great for what they’re made for. I believe they do slightly more off road versions or may be it’s an upgrade with wider chunky tyres/wheels and more gears. Pretty sure I’ve seen videos on them. I’m not sure how practical that would be and whether you need it? Still, I’m sure you get many miles in 🚴🏻‍♀️☺️ Yes, I have a couple of places in Cornwall in my ideas notebook, potentially one of them will be next year. Yes I like that my bike will do most terrains. Not as light as having a road bike of course. It’s a Specialized Rockhopper Sport from 2019 with 29” wheels. They change the design a little and the equipment each year. There are four models, Sport, Comp, Elite and Expert at various price points. Let me know if you need to know anything else. Good luck in your next ride 🚴🏻‍♀️

    • @paulrichmond9720
      @paulrichmond9720 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @MadisonTen Thanks so much for your reply. I shall have a serious look at the models mentioned. I'm missing out on some amazing cycling routes by having just the Brompton. And yes, you can upgrade the bike. There's a company I believe up north that will do a new rear triangle, new front forks etc so you can fit 20" fat wheels. Only problem is it's cheaper to buy a different bike more suited to the terrain. As for your cornish outings. One route you must consider because There's nothing quite like it anywhere. And that's from Sennen cove to St Ives. The coastal road is absolutely amazing. Thanks again. 😊

    • @MadisonTen
      @MadisonTen 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, Bromptons are an expensive hobby 🤭 it’s good to have the right tool for the right job. I’d like a gravel bike but I don’t think I could justify the cost right now. Thanks for the suggestion. I love the look of st Ives. Ticks a lot of boxes ☺️ Any time.

      Hi Patrick, it’s a Specialized Rockhopper Sport from 2019 with 29” wheels. I believe they change the design and equipment each year slightly. They do 4 models, Sport, Comp, Elite and Expert (in that order from entry level to higher end I think but check). It looks like the 2025 models are out which means 2024 models might be on discount, Late August to Sept seems to be a good time for that kind of deal.

      The hotel was ok but it is a bare basics place. It’s economical and accepts bikes in the room which is the main thing. Yes I liked Bournemouth, especially the sea front in the morning. I would love to go running along there. There was a little bit of trouble on the second evening between the pier and the park but a whole load of police turned up and sorted that out.

      Thanks, Keith. Free train travel! Now I could do with some of that 🤭 I think you’ll get some riding if you feel the urge.

    Lovely video, what camera did you use to record your journey?

      Thanks! For this film i used a GoPro Hero Session 4 for the cycling and a Samsung S8 mobile phone for all the other footage. The newer films (everything since January this year) I use a Go Pro Hero 12 for the cycling and an iPhone 15 for the other footage. I still use the GoPro 4 for some bits.

    Guards Vans, we are being encouraged to use public transport and cycle and walk more, bring back Guards Vans, no more cramped areas to store bikes, worked in the past, can work now…..cracking film btw 👍

      I'm really surprised even with the new commuter/metro trains they're not designing in large spaces given the need to get more people commuting. I'm guess it's down to cost and gains. Thanks, David! ☺️

    Very interesting ride not least because I am reading Laura Laker’s book Potholes and Pavements which is all about the NCN and of course Bristol-Bath was one of their first routes. Anyway was great to see what the ride looks like and will have to try it myself sometime.

      Definitely try it if you can. Such a rewarding place to ride and can pick and choose which bit and how far you'd like to go.
