It's really depressing to see Kmart close for good. They were the last of the stores that I remember my mom going there and buying me gi joe and masters of the universe toys. 😢
I thought that the entrance near the café looked more like a grocery store entrance than a department store entrance. Then I found comments stating that the building started out as a Grant's. Now that set of doors makes sense: they probably were to a grocery/food area and never updated from the '60s!
I worked there until it closed Haha 😂 (my name is on the sign near the bottom). All of the workers were so close. It was definitely an emotional time when it closed
I still remember that jingle. Hill's used to devote almost the entire back half of store to toys for the holidays. Back then it was about the only place (other than the Sears catalog) that had every toy there was.
@@josephmackela8466 Say that to every person who runs a loan/capital business that sucked these stores dry and closed them down. Toys R Us, Ames, KB Toys, Circuit City, etc all went through the same shit.
wow.... This is the town my husband (Jim Boyd) is from. I got to go there a few times... this is so sad... thanks for the video.. loved the signs.. how sad though
Wow, so sad that these old KMART buildings keep sitting empty. There is a bit of good news, I just got word that the Kmart building here in Richfield Utah that closed back just spring of 2016 (built 1981) got bought by Jorgensen Honda getting expanded into a 4 wheel showroom. Ross was going to buy the building but fell through, there was talk of even relocating my public library (where I work) into the building but we already own the very vintage building we are in now. Great shirt btw! ;)
You might want to see if that Kmart Cash has any money on it. I found a Wally World card in the road last Christmas Eve and almost ignored it. On a hunch I checked the website and found it had nearly $100 on it.
What a shame. Opened the year of the American Bicentennial (1976), gone 41 years later. It's only a matter of time before the Kmart and Sears names will join Zayre, Jamesway, Hills, and Ames in the history books.
Looks like one of the Kmarts that closed back in October that's in my hometown, it was a Grant's at my old Kmart store back in the day before it came a Kmart, maybe this one was too because it has the same atmosphere as my old Kmart.
Man those signs are like tugging at the heartstrings. I really would hate if "my" Kmart went out of business. I think like Kmart would be the one store I would be legit pissed off if they ALL went out of business. I get most everything at "my" Kmart, even if it's paying a little more than at Walmart because I just like Kmart more so, and it's like the one place I always remember my dad taking the family to shop, until the real local ones closed.
I’d gone to this store since 1975. But my final visit to the store in 2017 was one of my worst retail shopping experiences EVER. But Karma to the rescue, with the store soon closed and then totally demolished. I was a 40+ year customer and I was treated beyond poorly on my final visit to this store. GOOD RIDDANCE, and take SEARS with you!
In the past several weeks, they have torn down about half of the store. Looks like something else may be going in there. My guess is a new Aldi's, the one just down from K-Mart is small and outdated, actually pretty disgusting )has the appearance inside of an Ollies outlet store-junk everywhere,). They have a new updated Aldi's in Washington, Pa which is quite nice.
Why do stores that close put dark tint or paper over the windows so people can't look inside? Is it so they won't be tempted to break in and steal what's left, or what?
This was a Grant's location before Kmart, and Grant's was crazy similar to Kmart- auto centers, restaurants, garden centers, on top of being a department store!
Jack Son: I thought it looked like it could have been a Grant’s as the Big Lots where I live in Coshocton, Ohio had the same type of look in terms of the brick on the front of the building and started out as a Grant’s. The Grant’s in Coshocton, Ohio became a Murphy’s Mart, then an Ames, and is currently a Big Lots store.
Not a surprise. Most Grant's locations became Kmarts when Grant's went out of business. However, ones that stayed in the same location until the end seem rare; a lot of former Grant's that became Kmarts ended up being something else because the Kmart moved after a few years (even if it was just to another storefront in the same shopping center).
Why it leave the lights on company make no money I'm paying electric bill doesn't make sense power Kmarts was built in that make sense begin with this doesn't make sense at all leave electric on no point
Very true. Once ownership changes hands everything must be brought up to code. That's probably why the abandoned 60's Kmart here sat for 15+ years empty.
I really like your video. Keep on making the great videos Thank you
That's my hometown Belle Vernon, PA
Mine too.. 1987-2001
It's really depressing to see Kmart close for good. They were the last of the stores that I remember my mom going there and buying me gi joe and masters of the universe toys. 😢
My local Kmart closed 2012 roughly, and turned into a Hobby Lobby 2016and a Koals in 2018
This was originally built as a Grant's department store.
your right , i remember when grants was there
Outlasted the former Grants location where I grew up (1976-1995), and it had a full service restaurant just like this did too.
I remember that.

Oh my the memories though ... I lived in Belle Vernon 1987-2001
I worked there until it closed Haha 😂 (my name is on the sign near the bottom). All of the workers were so close. It was definitely an emotional time when it closed
Thank you for your service 😎
Update on this location, it is now an Aldi, Harbor Freight, O'Rileys and Planet Fitness
I still remember that jingle. Hill's used to devote almost the entire back half of store to toys for the holidays. Back then it was about the only place (other than the Sears catalog) that had every toy there was.
had to watch this again...really sad to see this Kmart gone
This store looks identical to my former childhood Kmart in Owensboro, KY that closed in October 2017.
Thats my donut spot in the winter now. Lotta good memories
That's so sad I loved Kmart I miss shopping with them
Every Sunday after church at St. Sebastian on Broad Ave in BV we would go there and eat brunch. Good times I miss it.
I remember seeing that sign in front of the K Cafe in the first video you did on this KMart.
I live a few minutes away they tore it down and moved the Aldi’s to where the Kmart was
I'm digging the Hills shirt! Love your vids!
Very sad to see that store go under.. Great find Wallie..Thanks :)
Such a shame, that Kmart being family oriented and having to close doors.
Man that was definitely a family oriented Kmart, sad to read all those signs😔

10:30 My boy squidward
I came here for creepy Kmarts, but I ended up with feels instead.
R.I.P. Kmart/Sears, simply another casualty of Amazon and Wal-Mart.
Fluffydips Thecartoonman my local kmart closed in my town
What do you say to Eddie Lampert?
@@josephmackela8466 That he's an awful man with a hedge fund? I dunno. He's already ran.
@@mr.goodboi2780 He ought to be ashamed of what he did!!

The gift card was OLD! That was their 90’s logo!
My cousin used to work for this Kmart until it closed for Good lots of memories visiting when she was working
I always used to go shopping there until it closed.
Our city trash removal company cleaned up all the dumpsters and shit left outside.
Aldi’s Is now there they redid the whole store you should go back and look at it now.
Wallie if your ever in Newburyport MA you should explore the abandoned Kmart it closed back in Sept this year .
wow.... This is the town my husband (Jim Boyd) is from. I got to go there a few times... this is so sad... thanks for the video.. loved the signs.. how sad though
That's means dead.😢😖💔😞😿🌧💧🌻😟😩😭🙀😟💔
Just drove by this store today, half of it now demolished and they're apparently redeveloping

This place was my first job back in 2014. I worked in electronics. Sad

Damn those signs are heartbreaking.

The Kmart videos you do are my favorite
It is now a grocery store.
Very sad. I remember shopping at K Mart's predecessor, Kresge's 5 and 10 cent store.
Great video. The most touching part are the signs with sad messages from the customers and friends of the store. Yes, KMart Rules, Walmart drools
It aldi's now
Keep them coming man!
it got torn down
It's sad that an iconic company as Kmart is shutting its doors in a few years
Hi Wallie. How are you doing tonight? Hope you have a merry Christmas.
Did you keep the Kmart card you found
Cherry and Grape popsicles Yes I did. I put it in a jewelry display case I got from the Moon Kmart that closed.
This is super sad. ;( hope our Kmart doesn’t have to go through this.
Trident Central which one
LittleBoi4Trump I work at a Kmart in Moline, IL. The 2 literally surrounding us closed down leaving us left in the quad cities.

There are two abandoned Kmart stores near me. Eaton, OH and Englewood, OH.. both closed in 2016
What a shame. Opened the year of the American Bicentennial (1976), gone 41 years later. It's only a matter of time before the Kmart and Sears names will join Zayre, Jamesway, Hills, and Ames in the history books.
Hmmmm the thumbnail looks like the kmart used to be a Ames department store or a Hills department store 🤔
lawn and garden center on side man
The label scar on my local abandon Kmart makes the logo still visible... or at least the BIG part of the BIG Kmart logo
I remember shopping there
what a WASTE! watch them end up building like an Aldi, or an Oreilys LOL or even a harbor freight
They did. LOL. They put an Aldi in its place a few years ago.
You should try the Keystone Bakery next time you go through there it is so good
Chad Bollinger thanks for the suggestion! I will have to!
I agree. It is.
This is the Kmart with the giant ass sign, I wonder what the heck they do with it

Were are you still looking for someone who?.????? ( Graham Ave monessen pa 15062 )
The sign is just turned inside out...
If it was turned inside out the letters would be mirrored.
Mister Hat ahh totally missed that!
