Anybody catch at 2:38 right as the commentator talking about the awkward riding position, the teenage guy in the dark navy t-shirt appears to say to his riding partner "Dude, that guy has his camera pointed right at us." And his riding partner (red t-shirt) appears to say "F$#@" then "God." Hahaha.
Whizzer is an ACE Coaster Landmark for a reason. That in and of itself makes it special, not to mention it`s a very unique Schwartzkopf and an excellent family coaster. When Whizzer reaches the end of its service life, I`d like to see it re-imagined by another manufacturer and placed in the same plot of land.
We had a coaster like this at Six Flags Over Texas in the 70's called the Big Bend. It was a very popular ride with wait times of over 1 1/2 hrs many days.
I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. It's a very fun ride for everyone. Some of my friends a little older than me will always ask me about Big Bend at Six Flags over Texas. It lasted less than a decade, but it made quite an impact.

I love how a ride removal got so much backlash that they overturned it. It reminds me of that library cat who was kept around after his removal received inernationsl bscklash. Probably good they kept it as I heard this ride is great
One of my biggest regrets in life is not riding the Zambezi Zinger when it was at my home park. After riding Whizzer, I understand why so many people miss that coaster. These rides are worth keeping around.
@@SnowghostFilms They did not really revive Zambezi Zinger. They built a wooden coaster and attached the name to it. A true revival would involve accurately fabricating a Schwarzkopf Speed Racer.
i can’t remember if either this or little dipper when it was at kiddieland was my first coaster. it also coulda been a random dragon wagon. but this is the coaster that got me into coasters. can’t even express how much I love this ride.
Whizzer definitely deserved to be saved over Shockwave. Shockwave was fun in it's first few years, but it was shaking itself apart, and by the end it was such a violent ride there was no actual enjoyable part of it. If you didn't press your head hard back against the headrest, your head would just ping pong back and forth violently into the shoulder restraints. Near the end, you could routinely walk on to the ride with no line.

The only thing that comes close is a jet star. The ride doesn't really have any forces but it doesn't need any to be fun. The terrain it goes threw and the unique seating arrangement makes it fun to ride with friends, unless it's uncomfortable sometimes. But I hope this stays for many years to come.
I may or may not have made my mom wait in line with me just to have to pee when we finally got to the ride on more than one occasion when I was younger
I believe the spot that Whizzer sat on at California's Great America is now occupied by Xtreme Skyflyer and Gold Striker. Normally I'd say that Shockwave would've been another ride that would've been much better if not perfect if Vekoma had those vest restraints available at the time but it probably wouldn't matter in this case as I believe the ride had other problems associated with the track and wheels even.
@@CanobieCoaster well the park did not maintain it it's my home park it's a shame that it had to be dismantled but it did not pass a 1988 inspection they found cracks in the structure so just fell into disrepair
I sound crazy, but Whizzer is in my top 5 at the park. SFGAm is my home park so I have road it many times. I have watched several younger relatives ride it as their first big coaster. As it does for many Great America fans, it holds a special place in my heart.
@thomas palazzolo, Shock Wave was a wild, head-banging ride. My physics teacher rode this 14 times in a row...I tapped out after 5 times. Head hurt too bad.

Great america is my home park and this was a great first major coaster for me, so glad they kept it

They had to take Shockwave out that ride was horrific. Shockwave, ragin Cajun , and Iron Wolf were the worst coasters this park ever had.
