- For as much metal detecting as we do around old colonial era houses amd farm fields, most of the items we find are not worth a lot of money. We do it for the intrinsic value of finding and holding something that was meant to be lost forever. But once in a while we find something that fills both of thise buckets, incredibly historic and quite valuable , and today was one of those days. Some coins are valuable because they are made of a precious metal, some valuable because not many were made, and then there's a coin like this, that was never even meant to reach the public eye! You never know when it's going to happen but the Rarest Coins CAN Be found Metal Detecting, if you just give yourself the chance to find them!

You described the double-strike as appearing in the upper corner of a coin that is a circle. I'm still looking for the corner of a circle and it's driving me crazy.

Old and an error coin! A counterfeit coin too!😮 Some counterfeit coins are worth more than their genuine counterpart. Usually due to their historical background.

Error coins are sometime very valuable. Example 1955 S, D, Plain double strike. Got five sitting in from of me right now!!!! Error paper dollars with the "Star" with low serial numbers are also. Having the error dollar and the star bill with the same serial number is very very rare. That makes up for breaking the shovel Rich!!!

At first I thought you were insinuating the counterfeit large cent was your thousand dollar coin and I thought you were over embellishing. How do you get permission to dig on someone’s homestead? I see places I would like to go to but have never asked permission, guess I don’t know exactly what to say. I also see old fallen down places where no one lives but I am afraid to trespass so I always drive by 😔😔
