Thanks for watching my video from the Queen Mary. If you enjoyed, it would be amazing if you’d give the video a ‘like’, and also remember to subscribe for so much more! Thank you, and welcome onboard! ❤
I'm so pleased that she is being restored and wasn't sent to the scrapyards like so many other old ships. Watching this, I could imagine people of the 1930s walking around and the soldiers during the war. So much history. Thanks Fraser.
Thanks so much for watching! I also totally agree - I spent the whole time onboard wishing the walls could speak - can you imagine what’s gone on throughout that ship? Absolutely remarkable to think about!
It's hard to believe this room is on the same ship as the previous room you showed. That makes the condition of the other even more inexcusable! Thanks for the tour.
My husband and I were thinking of booking on the queen Mary before a scheduled cruise to Hawaii next April. Our friends who are traveling with us sent me your first video regarding the unclean room. I was truly disappointed, but pretty much decided that it was not for us. However, they then sent this video and it totally changed our minds and we will be booking later today for two nights before our cruise.we will be sure to book the bigger cabin as well. Thank you. 26:06
Oh, this is exciting - glad to hear you’re looking to book now - thanks for watching my video! The second room is what’s called a ‘Deluxe Stateroom’ on the Queen Mary website! Happy booking, and enjoy Hawaii!
@@FraserAtSea thank you for this I am booking the QM tonite. Hey worse case scenario: if the room is not what we are hoping for we have 14 days in a Spa Suite on the ship. ❤️
It's the soul of the ship that pulls like minded folks (no matter where she may be berthed) to her. I never got to sail on her or other major namesakes from the days of serious cruising, but I did take a cruise ship from Beirut to Cyprus when I was in first grade. I've been hooked ever since. Liked your tour, but----and this is critical from an 80 year old perspective----where was the toilet? Ha! I saw the tub, shower, and sink-----but not the "necessary". Keep on touring, son.
Ha, this cracked me up! I’d really recommend making the trip to the Queen Mary - she was such an interesting experience. Thanks so much for following along!
Yeah, you’re telling me! It was a joy to see this one compared to the last - I hope they improve the lower grades big time!! Thanks for staying tuned in!
So was this a standard first class room, originally? The space is enormous! You won't find that on today's ships too often, if at all. I love the Queen Mary! You did a great job with the tour video, too.
Thanks, Jim! I believe you’re right, yes. A gorgeous space, indeed! Overall, the Queen Mary is a really interesting project, and I’d love to return one day to see the changes!
my dads ship escorted a convoy out of New York in 1943 to St Johns NFL and the Queen Mary sailed out of the harbour at 30 kns bowling by his ship like it was standing still the best ocean liner ever built
Great stuff Fraser. We were onboard Queen Mary around 7 years ago when the wood decks were getting redone, they have done an amazing job and it looks a lot better than it was back then. Always love the QUEEN -Tim :)
Heeey! It’s so good to hear you can see a difference - I can’t wait to see her in another 7 years to see what’s changed! The project must be costing a fortune, but great to see! Thanks so much for watching - great to see your name pop up!!
An absolutely beautiful ship, with a style and quality that could rival anything today. Thank you so much for posting, a wonderful video. And to think it was built in my hometown by men who would have gone home to tenements with no inside toilet and no electricity. I know because my mum said they used gas for lights in the 1930s with chains hanging from the ceiling. Even in the 1960s a lot of the tenement flats in Glasgow still had no inside toilets. I remember we had one on the landing we shared with several neighbours. I just find it interesting the contrast between the beauty and craft of what the Clyde workers created and how they (we) lived.
Sounds like you have a sense of Glasgow pride with this belter that I also do! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video - thanks so much for watching, and for taking the time to leave a comment!
Fantastic to watch this! We did the tour last September as we were picking up an Oceania cruise out of Long Beach. It was magical to see this ship ... but agree with you that the long cabin corridoors really did feel creepy and unnerving - we felt the same way in the dimly lit engine rooms as well. Thanks for the vlog! :)
Hey Amanda, thanks so much for taking the time to leave this comment! Sounds like you had a good experience at the Queen Mary, and also similar feelings to me - love that. The corridors - I felt SO weird walking down them! Thanks for watching!!
Glad your new cabin was nicer! Lovely view! No peeling wallpaper or dings in the wall. Leaving the original fan is very cool. Interesting shower, but I hate shower curtains too!Great video and interesting to see your pride in Glasgow! Sorry so much is closed on the ship now!
Thanks for watching, Cheri! I’m also so glad this room was better - I’d have been so annoyed if it was as bad, ha! Hopefully more will open in the future, as I’d like to go back and see how it changes and evolves in time!
Thanks for this video! This is on my bucket list and I’m here in Los Angeles so i need to stop procrastinating and book it! 🚢💕 Edit to add: this room is HUGE!!!!!!! Wow! 🤩
Great video as always. I had a day visit to the Queen Mary back in 2012. It was quiet and not many people around. The hotel was closed at that time. But a lovely chap in the radio room told us some fantastic stories. Completely agree about some of the corridors. One did send a shiver down my spine. No explanation but was a bit spooky! Can't wait to visit her at some point again!
Hi Jess, thanks so much, and thanks for leaving such a great comment! There’s some fascinating stories onboard this ship - what a place! Thanks so much for watching!!
This is a great follow-up, Fraser! thanks for the informative tour. The observation bar, salons, model gallery, and engine room are all so charming! 😍 Plus the upgraded room certainly makes up for the haunted double you were staying in 😂 feels much more polished
Thanks so much for coming back to watch this video - it’s so appreciated! Yeah, the room was MUCH better than the haunted one with the black walls, hahaha!
This was amazing, thanks! I've never watched any videos of this tour. My fault for being a slacker, I guess.😂 What a gorgeous ship! Would've been amazing to sail on! Quite the adventure back in the day. I actually guessed correctly on the poles for stringing the ropes. Seems I read that somewhere. 😂 Much nicer room condition. Love the water taps and fan. Glad they moved you.
Yeah, can you imagine this back when it was sailing? I can just imagine how glamorous that gallery area would’ve been with everyone moving around after dinner - amazing! Thanks for watching - I’m really glad you enjoyed it!
Sir Winston’s was originally the 1st class smoking room. Prior to the new renovations, it was a swanky 5 star restaurant. I look forward to it being brought back. Unfortunately it was not handicap accessible.
Great insights in this comment - thanks very much for this! I'm excited to see the project in a few more years time to see how it develops and evolves!
That post at the head of the stairs looks to me like a stanchion that might have been equipped originally with velvet ropes, maybe to keep the different passenger classes apart?
Something to keep in mind. The ship decks are not level. So, there is a very long subtle curvature of the decks from Bow to Stern unlike modern ships which are perfectly level.. Thus, when you sleep, your head will be lower than your feet, as all heads of the bed point toward the center of the ship. I found it quite unpleasant to sleep. The restaurant was very good and it is an interesting ship, but sleeping was a bit uncomfortable.
Oh wow - this is such an interesting comment - thanks so much for leaving this! Also, thanks for your support of my small channel by watching my video!
Fun fact: I’ve just been watching “Death & Other Details” on Disney+ set on a cruise ship - and many of the inside scenes were filmed on the Queen Mary! You’ll probably recognise some of the locations 😊
Ooh, I’ll need to have a look for that - thanks for the heads up! I’m not sure I’ll find it as motivating a watch as other cruise shows if it includes death - watch this space, haha!
The QM's successor, the QM2 built in the early 2000s, shows how ocean liners in today's era are larger & fancier than ships of the past were. That definitely includes the QE2 built in the late 1960s, around the time the QM was retired. The ship in Dubai reflects the age of the Vietnam War, Woodstock & polyester, so to me it isn't as ideal as a stationary hotel as the QM2 will be (when it's retired) or a historic site as the QM (1934) is. But as your previous cabin in the QM was, a ship that's 90 yrs old certainly needs way more renovation work than a ship over 50 yrs old does.
Nice - have a blast! It is reduced yes, but I can’t remember how much by from memory. If you ask at the tours desk, they will get you booked (up on the Promenade Deck!) :)
Great video. I'm doing a transatlantic crossing on QM2 in February and would love to stay on the original QM while I'm in the US but I'm worried about the lack of good public trabsport in the US, is Long Beach easy to get to from LA without a car?
Hey, good question! I actually got to Long Beach from Los Angeles by taxi - Uber etc are really popular out there! If you’re planning to explore around there, I’d maybe recommend hiring a car, but depends on how far out you’re looking to go. I’d probably say if you don’t want a car, that taxi services are best - not sure about trains or buses etc!
Good point! The room actually was incredibly quiet - it was also nice to be positioned down a little corridor from the main corridor - that also made all of the rooms much quieter as little to no passing noise. Always good to see your name pop up - thanks for being here!
@@FraserAtSea future cruiser here... The corridors with corridor's sounds like it might have been for the purpose of quiet in the rooms customer comfort...
