It’s delightful when you go digging with Tim. Love his manner and his humor despite his straight face! Also Si, the music you use is great, you are a very talented videographer and a charming guy. ❤
The bottle that Tim found with the round bottom was for fitting in a saddle bag for a horse, Paul Laidlaw once explained it on antiques road trip, would have been part of a kit and fitted into a leather pouch on the saddle 👌
You can also use a brayer to spread the ink out evenly on glass or other flat surface and then use it to coat the surface of the stamp. You can do nice color bleeds and mottled effects with the brayer and multiple colors.
You could make some interesting coasters with those stamps. Yes, use a soft even surface underneath and sort of roll the stamp a little to get the edges
Lovely poison bottle! I've seen the most beautiful poison bottles on 'Bottle digger tom's' tips! That's why I always saying, the UK had the most beautiful bottles - even the beer bottles were extraordinary with strong embossed letters.

Now here I am being shown your page.......it has been a beautiful and welcomed distraction for me. I’ve known nothing of the Thames, so learning new history has been highly educational for me. Go ahead n laugh because I said “new history”. I also commend you for all the work that you do and share with us! I’m impressed that you take the time and record your findings with the museum, especially those Roman boots! My mother and myself are fossil hunters of the Gulf shores. I had heard that alcohol and opiates were regularly used in them but hearing that people continued usage after finding out how fatal it was is just horrifying. #padlock

It would be fun to make printed coasters with your bottle stopper printing method. I enjoy your videos and the art you make with your finds. Hello from Boston Massachusetts #padlock
The pharmacist who invented Mrs Winslow's Soothing Syrup made millions from that product, and probably killed thousands of babies doing so. Some of the 19th century history around "cure all" products that theses bottles shine a light on are fascinating. #padlock
Well to be fair the opium content was just way too high for children, a small dosage would be fine, as stuff in opium like codeine and morphine is still used around the world for pain or in cough syrup, because opiates are harmless to the body, it's withdrawal and overdose that causes the problems, opiates pass through the body not doing any damage, it's the drug war that has brainwashed into thinking any drug that gets you high is doing damage, when for example marijuana is probably one of the most useful drugs known to man, yet sadly in commonwealth countries they haven't legalised it, has they done so, there wouldn't be so many people dying and have mental health problems because of those "spice" synthetic cannabinoids, drugs are tools, when used correctly they can be a blessing, but when misused they can be a curse, my guess is that because of its high dosage, I'm sure some adults figured out how strong it was and were taking it themselves
Great finds you two! I love the poison bottle! Absolutely an amazing find for you Simon! Also love the malt vinegar bottle, I love my malt vinegar on my fish and chips!
i think it would be worse for those parents of sick children to know afterward that it was poison, i feel bad for the unfortunates who were around for the discovery, the whole "what have i done?" scenario is a nightmare
It can happen, but most bottles are stronger than you think and quite thick glass. Most broken bottles have been broken at the time of being thrown away - or under the pressure of the earth. It's a happy medium of force and moving enough soil to find something
As I can't travel, I live vicariously through your mudlarking and bottle digging. I would love the #padlock earrings - post more videos, so I can be entertained indoors - love your channel and Nicola's xx
Back then there were a lot of using dangerous substances in medicine. Here in the US pioneer women became addicted to opium and cocaine that was used in concoctions for various womens problems. As a result many ended up instentutionalized.
@@woodrose50 that reminds me, in Oregon during this time period there was a classical Chinese Doctor named Doc Hay who worked in John Day, Oregon. He was fully trained in traditional Chinese medicine. He became the expert doctor everyone went to because he was really good at treating infections and could do surgeries safely (due to doing common sense things like boiling his surgical instruments to sterilize them and using herbs effectively). This was before antibiotics. The facility he operated out of, Kam Wah Chung, is still in existence as a State Heritage Site. For many people at the time it was a choice between Doc Hay and the quack "doctors" that filled the West, wise people chose Doc Hay!
Awesome finds! My sisters and I were bottle diggers as children without knowing that was a thing. I have no idea where any of our finds ended up. #padlock
Si-finds Thames Mudlark we grew up on a dairy farm in North Carolina, where some old cabins had been. We used to find bottles and handmade nails a lot, and once dug up a spoon when digging a post hole! We used the bottles to hold daffodils to decorate our “clubhouse” (an old tractor shed lol). I wish we had kept those things.

Aren't we supposed to be giving you pressies on your birthday?? #padlock
Feel free 😉👍🏻🐾🧡
Oh, so cute, the little ink pot.
Great finds you two! I love the poison bottle! Absolutely an amazing find for you Simon! Also love the malt vinegar bottle, I love my malt vinegar on my fish and chips!
No don’t open the bottle
Schrödinger's lemonade!
Aegopodium 🤣🤣🙀
i think it would be worse for those parents of sick children to know afterward that it was poison, i feel bad for the unfortunates who were around for the discovery, the whole "what have i done?" scenario is a nightmare
thank you!
Using such force with giant shovels and forks don’t you run the risk of breaking more awesome finds than if you would use a more gentle approach?
It can happen, but most bottles are stronger than you think and quite thick glass. Most broken bottles have been broken at the time of being thrown away - or under the pressure of the earth. It's a happy medium of force and moving enough soil to find something
You've got such a good proper attitude. I love watching you find luck in the muck. Thanks for it mate.
As I can't travel, I live vicariously through your mudlarking and bottle digging. I would love the #padlock earrings - post more videos, so I can be entertained indoors - love your channel and Nicola's xx
Yes maam ; )
scary that people thought helping their children with this remedy - but killed them instead, I hope the bottle you found wasn‘t one of them #padlock
Me too 🐾🧡
Bad news when maxing out the doses during the day.
As always, very interesting indeed ! Very good "ploughing" guys ! #padlock
Your friends digging is a bit aggressive lol
I agree. 🫤 He seems to be taking over your area at times.
I had to stop watching, the way his friend was digging was giving anxiety.
*Padlock* I'd love the necklace! Now, that blue poison bottle is amazing, but the tiny ink pots do make me smile. Great dig!
Great idea to use the bottle top stamps!!! Thanks for taking us along on another enjoyable outing. #Padlock
Another fab idea for those vulcanite bottle stoppers! And what a wonderful poison bottle you found.
Hi from upstate New York! I just strated watching your channel and every time I do, I learn something new. Thank you for all you share!
Lovely blue bottle. Nice find! I like the colors in the modge podge art. It turned out well. #padlock
Awesome finds! My sisters and I were bottle diggers as children without knowing that was a thing. I have no idea where any of our finds ended up. #padlock
Lucky you! Shame the finds have been lost tho
WOW! What "LUCK IN THE MUCK"! You and Tim had some great finds! Congrats on the blue poison bottle!
Thank you!
