This video is spot on. An example why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's time at United is seen as a failure and nobody wants to hire him because the narrative around his "style of play" is that its not near the "right way" of playing football. Tbf he would be a fantastic manager for a lot of teams with his fast, counter attacking style of football. But we live in a world where 100+ goals a season is not good enough but a negative goal difference is okay because have a "style of play" and the manager is bald.
Absolutely agree with you, but not sure there's much difference in theory with McKenna and Kompany. The same could well happen with Ipswich next year that happened to Burnley this year.
Kompany tried to take a huge leap in one go with Burnley bringing in loads of new players which did not work out at all. His biggest mistake was bringing in Trafford and playing him over Muric. He tried to do too many new things at once. McKenna kept majority of the core group of players same in the Championship as he did in League 1. The difference is Kompany tried to revolutionize his squad whereas McKenna found success with an evolution.
We’re more adaptable and direct, not as focussed on possession and have been less dominant in play than Burnley so should be more likely to work in prem
56 passes, 53 were backwards and sideways. Worst thing is that a lot of fans believe passing out from the back is the only way to play. Russell Martin brought his MK team down to Pompey a few years back and they totally dominated, never looked like scoring, and went home easily beaten. Give me a quick pass down the line, a hard running winger whipping in a first time ball, and the CF powering a header into the old onion bag.
tbf over the last few months since Tuchel was announced as leaving they have approach and been rejected by so many managers that Kompany about the 324th they have asked. He was not anywhere near their first choice
Also that Pep ball to me is so dull. Like I love Liverpool and Newcastles style of just counter, attack, get possession and just have some shots off. It's more exciting than 30 passes in 10 seconds and then ruining the excitement of interesting players (Like Grealish and Doku)
liverpool have the 3rd highest average possession in the league, theyre far from a ”just counter attack, get possession and just have some shots off” type team
Been saying this for so long 😂 Great video handsome. This fetish with getting a young possession based manager instead of winning actually makes me feel mental.
Great video. I wonder if it's a case of it being easier to copy what the successful teams are doing, rather than trying, testing and learning what suits the club, budget and players.
Our gaffer, Ian evatt - Bolton. Pep junior I call him🤦🤦 75% possession, and fuck all. Get a team of battlers and he hasn't a scooby fuckin doo! Can someone come in for him. Maybe he'll get the Madrid job🤔
Tbf as a fellow Bolton fan Wembley and most of our away performances this season are like that but when we batter teams like Oxford or Exeter at home we’re elite to watch and should deffo be championship
Football teams keep doing it because it keeps working. Yes, it might be "undeserved" and high risk but often times it does pay off. Before Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso only managed Real Sociedad B in the fourth and third spanish league, he got promoted and then relegated next season, overall he averaged 1,46 Points per game. Is this enough to get arguably one of the biggest jobs in Germany? Probably not, but Leverkusen took the risk in the same way Arsenal did when they appointed Arteta. Being a "Pep Disciple" does matter. Xabi Alonso admitted that he joined Bayern partly because he wanted to learn from Pep and if you watch his Leverkusen side you see why.
But those are rare. Consider other that didn’t work. And consider coaches winning stuff not getting those job offers. Case and point ancelotti not having a top offer when he joined Everton
Worst example of managers being too stubborn to change their playing style was Swindon vs Man City in the fat cup a few years ago when Swindon tried to play out off the back every chance they got 😭
As a pompey fan im so happy that while moushino wants to play possession footy he has the brain to compromise against better sides. We were so good at keeping teams like bolton an posh at bay. Bit because the football isnt sexy 100% of the time it seems like no clubs are even looking at him which is mental cos he the absolute bollocks as a coach
That’s why he’s got the job. Richard Keys was right (ignore the fact he’s a creep for this one) when he said that Kompany was not bothered about Burnley. He stuck to his style of play… playing out the back and trusting the GK on the ball( which cost them a lot of points) because he knew for his next job a club could come and see he has a principled way of playing that could work with better players. Weirdly I actually think he will smash it at Bayern. He speaks the language, he will be respected for the career he has had. If he plays the style Burnley did in the championship with world class players… it could be beautiful.
Wendys season got saved when, 2-0 down at home to Norwich after 15 minutes, the keeper told the centre halves to fuck off and sent everything long. Got a draw then and won the final 4 on the bounce much to your delight.
Artell wants to play an attractive passing style of football and we got battered week in week out we changed it and became more ridged and we stayed up. Got to have the players to play it.
If kompany had changed to Dyche style and kept Burnley in the prem then he wouldn’t get the Bayern job, perception is everything with managers for some reason.
You should do a video on Wayne Rooney being appointed Plymouth manager because there’s no way that they’re staying up again next season in my opinion (Had Whittaker who scored 19 goals and had 12 assists and they still finished 21st and below Wednesday who had 0 wins in their first 12/14 games
Best part of Kompany going bayern is that he’s taking his backroom staff with him and one of them is Mike Jackson who got sacked for us (Tranmere) after 10 games in league 2 😂😂😂
tbf you made that point that we (qpr) shouldn’t be playing nice football because of our stadium but it’s literally the opposite with us. it suits us playing possession based football. we were good under warburton beale then we appoint lump ball ainsworth and it went fucking awfully. then we appoint cifuentes and we’re brilliant. i agree it depends on culture of the club but our culture is to play that nice football with those maverick number 10s.
tuna can grow up to 2m in length and swim 43 miles per hour 😂 but you're right, Kompany tried to play like City with a Championship squad but in the prem and failed miserably.
Spot on good football don’t make you good millwall under Edwards was shit won 5 games in 4 months but Neil Harris comes in we’ll ave 30 percent possession but win 1-0 and he’s got the 3rd points per game in the championship only behind maresca and McKenna
Burnley should've sacked him. He deserved the sack. They had enough talent to stay in the league if the style of play was more pragmatic. Odobert, Foster, Bruun Larsen, Berge are decent players, why didn't they sack him? I guess we know the answer, ridiculous.
Give me Moyes, Mourinho, Pullis, Warnock shithousery football over this tika taka bs crap…. Just because some bald fraud got lucky with either hand me down squads or owners with never ending pockets and break FFP
As a Southampton fan and a big fan of Russell Martin I’m obviously in disagreement with your take on him. I understand your point about MK Dons actually succeeding more after letting him go however he’s just won the playoffs against a much better side on paper in leeds , and CHANGED his way of playing to suit a specific game , his brand of football is popular and sought after by good clubs because it’s tactically proven to succeed given the correct players in said system ? For example Flynn Downes has been genuinely incredible this season , playing the way we play is key , he doesn’t start for West Ham but looks incredible in Southampton’s team , forget the league difference it’s not relevant, his style can bring the best out in players and he’s now won a trophy doing it his way , and Daniel Farke has failed despite having won promotions nearly every year of his managerial career , so your point doesn’t really make sense. You’re basically saying how does Martin continue to attract better jobs despite not winning anything , however he’s just out played a man who’s won everything in the championship. He’s also a young manager with a likeable personality , which seriously boosts his credit as quite commonly , foreign managers with no personality seem to be disliked alot quicker , smart appointment by the board , we’ve bounced straight back up at the first attempt so I have zero complaints x
Anderlecht haven’t won a major trophy since 2017, and tunas are absolutely massive, literally weigh tons. What an absolute MELT you are. Of course West Ham won the Conference League, they were playing teams from Cyprus and Israel with a £500m squad.
regardless of how big tunas are they're still tiny compared to the Atlantic ocean, so the metaphor still makes sense?? U muppet. also Florentina who West Ham played in the final, are no mugs so beating them to European Silverware is hardly guaranteed
@@CallumFowlerEFL nah man, just respect the noble tuna and the progress clubs like USG and Royal Antwerp have made recently. I really don’t care that you can’t stand more than three passes being completed before a shot on target.
The biggest Tuna ever caught weighed in at 1496lbs and a ton is at least 2000lbs. 🤷♂️ I don’t think their will be many tuna in the oceans weighing in at a ton or more 😂
Tuna are actually pretty big and powerful tbf

The reason ten hag is backed cause he’s won us 2 trophies in 2 year not cause his style of play which is worse than oles 🤣
Rob Edwards did a better job than Kompany and will probably not get a Premier league job again unless he comes back up with Luton
Burnley would be smart to get him
