    1960 I got my first car. A 55 Buick Special. Left it in Grandpa’ s dirt floor shed in 1962 to go to ParrIs Island. Came home in 1967 to a pile of rust.

      Back in 1984 my cousin was the second owner of a 1950 Buick it was Bugandy beautiful car, he was 21 when he bought it off this old man. I think he paid $5,000 this day it would be like 40,000 how prices jumped. The car was garage kept. My cousin sold the car off to someone else that took good care of it. The car was well maintain. I often wonder if that car is still around or made it to the junk yard.

AMAZING build quality, this car is fucking flawless. i thought that it was just going to be the old "chop,drop, bullshit" deal but the blend of old and new is absolutely seamless! more vids please!

    My Great Aunt Evelyn, had a two tone Buick Special, I think it was a 56, but it might have been a 55, pink and white. She was still driving it in the mid 70's, I can remember thinking that it was a cool antique, looking back, it was only 20 years old at the time. I can't imagine seeing a 20 year old car now and thinking, wow what a cool antique, because the roads are full of 95's, nothing 'special' about them.

    • @JimmyKraktov
      @JimmyKraktov 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Kevin Simpson >> The 1950s cars are like nothing else that's ever been put on the road. My favorite decade. There's something about all that chrome that draws me in like a magnet. I was born in 1950 and remember taking an interest in cars with my brother who was 5 yrs older. I went with him to the 4 new car dealers downtown every October until about 1965. If we saw a car a block away you knew what kind it was. Today you mostly wouldn't have a clue what it was. The Special in this video was done nicely. 1955 was a good year :~)

    • @kevinsimpson196
      @kevinsimpson196 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jimmy Kraktov You are right, my Dad had a service station, so along with just being born a male in 1960, cars were part of my life. Like you, by the time I was 10, I could look at a car and tell you make, model and year. In the 70's it was an event to see a 50's car roll by on the street, they were like mobile sculptures. The impressive thing about the cars today is not their style, but their longevity, take any of the major Japanese brands, do the basic maintenance and having a 20 year old car is no big deal. Merry Christmas from PEI Canada.

    It sparkles and shines, and you did a hell of a good job on it, but it would have been nice if it could have stayed original. I really wish you hadn't lowered it. That said, it reminds me of our old '56 Buick which was a rocket ship (if you could keep the front end from wandering)! A lot of hard and beautiful work went into this - the paint finish looks miles deep. Thanks for documenting it for us.

    • @Trendyrapslut
      @Trendyrapslut 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +inagod but just how far is necessary?? was a chevy engine necessary? or could he have gone fuel injection and achieve the same end result?

    • @Godscountry2732
      @Godscountry2732 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trendyrapslut maybe,at what cost?In the end, its dollars and sense,cars rarely return your investment.but few people do it for money Sure a stock Hemi cuda from 1969 might make you rich,but rarely do you make money on a car restoration .

    • @Trendyrapslut
      @Trendyrapslut 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      inagod what cost?? what are you talking about? he had the buick engine in it?? wtf are you on about???

    • @Godscountry2732
      @Godscountry2732 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Trendyrapslut Sorry it went over your head,after market fuel injection on a early Buick engine wouldn't be a cost effective upgrade for most builders ,[it would be throttle body,not multiport injection[MP would be expensive modification on a early Buick engine] the end,you have a car that handles and rides like a modern vehicle,but barely gets out of its own way,has poor drivability and , fuel economy is less than optimum [a modern corvette engine with proper gearing can attain close 30 mpg hwy and has more than enough power to move this dinosaur down the road. I've driven these early ?Buicks, they barely get out of its own way,passing on the highway is a dangerous experiment.A Buick 3.8 V6 Turbo would of been my choice.

    • @Trendyrapslut
      @Trendyrapslut 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      inagod I feel like I'm talking to a motortrend editor.
      Ok listen pal, I HAVE a Corvette so I know that is gets good gas mileage. Then again, does a Viper? I mean you sit there and act like the old Buick isn't useable lol. Like it can't be modified or some shit lol. The only way your comment makes sense is if he was going for a shot at Street Outlaws. Other than that, nah. It's just another generic build.

    • @ricovali9245
      @ricovali9245 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally agree.now it's just like any piece of modern junk put on the streets today.they built them right back then.thats why it's still around after sixty years.

    • @lpatierno84
      @lpatierno84 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ricovali what exactly is junk on this car?? Everything done on this car was a HUGE upgrade from factory. This car will be around another 60 years no doubt about it....

    • @michelle601908
      @michelle601908 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ricovali, you must be young, the innovations they did, no doubt has made it a better car. the point is, they took a classic car, a car that is no longer produced, a car that there are only so many of them left, and totally destroyed it. with all the changes they made, they could of done it, without destroying a classic car. the 2 main things I like about classic cars, is the dashboard, and the body style. why would you want a modern dashboard in a classic car?

    • @adoreslaurel
      @adoreslaurel 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      lpatierno84 You are dead right, those old wagons needed regular greasing and it probably had king pin front suspension prone to wear, steering with 5 turns lock to lock and brakes that would not take a punishing, this is a fantastic update well engineered. Hell of a lot of hard work though.

    • @ervinthompson6598

      @@guyvanbrussel9772 .....and for all that money , it’s still not crash resistant , hit something and the car stops but you don’t - you wind up dead or in the hospital ; all that xx year old sheet metal is hopelessly bent and frame straightening/ repair ?? Might as well buy another car and spend beaucoup restoring it too.Fenders made of REAL metal- if you hit something hard enough to bend them any repairs aren’t gonna be cheap.

      +MrRemo58 After 60 years all of the 2-door hardtops are almost gone in all makes of cars. If you want a car from this era you have to settle for a 2-door sedan or a 4-door hardtop or sedan. It's a shame that they are almost all gone now. It was a fantastic era.

  • @SatchmoSings
    @SatchmoSings 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    A 1955 Buick was a good car, mostly ALL GM cars of this vintage were good cars.
    Before 1954, GM cars weren't such a big deal; their straight-eight engines were particularly terrible; they could barely due 60,000 miles and were designed NOT to be rebuildable.
    Then, starting in 1954 quality at GM just shot way up and remained high on their mid-sized, standard and luxury cars until 1981 when Roger Smith took over.
    This Buick, even stock, when new, was a very, very good car.

  • @michelle601908
    @michelle601908 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have a 53 buick special. I am okay with changing the engine, or putting chrome wheels on, or even changing the brake master cyl to a dual cylinder. but the body, dashboard, original way it looks should remain the same. I don't even like it when they chop them.

    I was around and drove these old Buicks the way they were and it was FINE.
    So was the chassis. Everything worked well and was low-maintenance. I hate
    to see classic cars all ruined like this with modern junk. If you want that crap,
    like "rack and pinion" steering and disc brakes BUY A NEW CAR or get a
    90's model FWD out the junk yard and f--- it up to your heart's content. But
    once a classic like this is torn up its gone forever. Like painting a clown nose
    on the Mona Lisa.

    • @ricardohel3361

    • @chrismc.4437
      @chrismc.4437 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GooglFascists Yea, in 1955 they were fine. When the technology of the era was new I'm sure it was a nice car to drive. But after 60 years of suspension and brake advancements that technology is stone age. To cut up a rare low production model may not be the best idea but a basic 4 door like this begs for it. He's actually made the car more valuable in its improved state of repair.
