    How Jack Webb got every actress & actress to speak like he did is amazing.

    • @fromthesidelines
      @fromthesidelines ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jack told them not to "act". He insisted they speak their lines as if they really experienced them (he wanted *realism* in their dialogue). A teleprompter helped off-camera as well.

      He would be appealing to many women and most on dragnet are appealing also, even the crooks.

    Those spontaneous white film circles that flash from time to time only add to the charm of old school film and television shows of this era.

    • @user-wh3pr3zv1k
      @user-wh3pr3zv1k หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I wonder if you mean change over dots? If so they are not spontaneous. Change over dots were not used for first run film TV shows but were often added to re-runs or old movies as cure for commercials. Original dots appear on the upper right hand corner of the frame but added dots can be anywere and some times just X's were scratched on the film. Real change over dots are related to the familiar count down leader. First dot is to start the second machine, second dot is to change over lamp and sound to the second machine.

      @user-wh3pr3zv1k Facinating, just fascinating. Ruins the production, but somehow, 70 years later, I don't mind, in fact, taking it farther and find it exilerating.

    I've always loved Jack Webb's voice, I bought the book he wrote. It was very interesting. He looked so authoritative and professional even when he was younger.

    The moral of the story is, if the police accuse you of a crime and they have virtually no evidence, don’t immediately confess you did it.

    Part of the inspiration for Dragnet came from a movie called "He Walked by Night" in it Jack Webb plays the SID investigator played by Olan Soule in many Dragnet programs. Webb had a small stock company of actors who he liked to use..
    IMO, the first couple of seasons were better than the later shows. Webb had a strange sense of comedy which he became less and less able to resist.

    How strange, he said he had no reason to kill her. I think he meant he didn’t kill her for any good reason. They argued prior to him strangling her. He obviously got angry enough to kill her. Then his anger being out of control was the reason.
