Personally I think the MV is about the different versions of your life. RM has talked about this when sharing how much Everything Everywhere All At Once impacted him. He also talked about it at Festa 2022, when mentioning the Marvel metaverse where there are different versions of yourself. He said he believes the RM we know, RM of BTS is the best version his life could be. If you watch in the MV, before he leaves with the girl (who is just another lost soul, a reflection of himself and someone who gives him comfort and support), he takes a deep breath before opening the locked door and walking forwards into the unknown. He chose his own path outside of the normal/traditional lives he'd seen.
His art is so introspective yet outrospective, safeguarding his true self, seeking a greater purpose, exploring his identities, protecting his human-hood amidst fame, trends, pressures etc, never to compromise on his true human self, reconnecting with himself despite all kinds of noise. (These are pieces of interpretations from twitter army) In his music RM has gone from "spring day is coming." to namjoon saying "spring always been here." When we realize the life we’ve always yearned for has been here all along. It just reflects his growth as a human. Also to say that you are your own spring day. To know you have control over yourself. It’s what BTS always tells us. It’s an empowering message. Especially when you can feel how out of place he felt in every journey he took, this was released at such a perfect time especially with all the conversations from 20 somethings being ashamed at feeling lost and not knowing how to navigate that right now, and realizing that healing isn’t linear and that’s ok despite all of the societal pressures of being a good son, being a good friend, marrying and being a good husband & father, everyone always expecting you to be something, all of it goes away when you meet the right person, who’s like a reflection of you & you can just… be you Feel like this is only the intro to a story Namjoon is going to tell us through the album. This was maybe around the time when he felt his burnout from fame & work reached one peak and hence, the disconnection from everything around him was evident in the mv from the first scene itself. RM is at a party with many people enjoying themselves, but he looks disenchanted. Metaphorically it can be the jubilation surrounding the mega success BTS had especially in the post dynamite era. But it was also when the questions about his artistic purpose started creeping in & hence he seems lost. He exited the party with a polite smile. The next scene is him with his family. The atmosphere became more homely & warm. The girl took his hand and dragged him near the sink but their warmth seemed a little burdensome to him, and he excused himself. This scene made me think of all the well wishers he has in his life. People who are his friends or even Army (his supporters). They want the best for him, but even then unintentionally they can impose him to be a certain way. A love he's not completely able to receive as he feels disconnected from himself. The next scene is when a woman is throwing things at him, screaming angrily, an absolute volatile situation that can escalate. She tries to throw a lamp at him which he tried to stop but once he failed he ran out of the room. This can be when he is forced to face unexpected, unfair & horrible situations made up by people who want to cause him harm. Such situations further add to his disconnection with everything he's doing and all he can think of is managing it the best way possible. In the next scene, he finds himself in a crib as a toddler. There are people trying to gain his attention & want him to react adorably like a child. But he not only seems offended, but hides behind a cloth. This can be all the people who want to exploit him in a certain way & expect him to do exactly what he's "supposed to do" (a grown man in a crib being cooed at). People who see him only as a walking money bag or vanguard of national prestige while downplaying his human-ness, his free will and liberty as an artist. As he doesn't present what is expected and they turn away in disappointment. In the next scene he's hiding behind a plant but he sees a woman desperately running around the house. I think the woman represents many things. This is the first time in the mv when we see RM take interest in someone, rather the other way around. He starts feeling her presence in the house & tries to find her. Finally he comes face to face with her and gets to know her or in this case himself. The girl and RM smiled at each other and sat on the couch...talking & laughing. She could embody...his inspiration, his humanness, his purpose, his core, his truest thoughts, his art, his soul or all of the above. After meeting her, after accepting her. I feel like certain scenes represent the ideals people force on him. It’s all there but then it seems like he tried to make peace with them because it’s the life he chose. He doesn’t like it but at the same time, it’s the path he took so the other Namjoon, the one who is accepting of it just smiles at him, letting him know it’s ok to feel those things but to not get lost in it. Then the woman, the voice of reason comes back for him. She became a guide that he kept losing sight of but that always seems to find him when he feels at the end of his rope. The voice of reason calling him back before making bad decisions or subjecting himself to toxicity. So he follows her and he re-lived everything. In the party, he's happily engaging with other people over drinks. With his loved ones in the bathroom, he's sharing a sweet moment of affection as he brushed his teeth. Even with the woman who was throwing things at him, he's able to sit down next to her & happily talk to her. In the cradle, he's able to engage with those two people as a child rather than giving a cold shoulder. He's shrunken down those voiced expectations. Then while in the party, he sees that woman who signals to come with her. And he simply nods. This can mean that he might be in all sorts of situations in his life, but he only wishes to follow this woman who signifies his art, purpose & humaness. They both stand in front of the door, stare at each other and take long deep breaths. This might signify, that he's about to venture towards something new, something unpredictable, something he's never done before. But the girl, his art...gives him a reassuring nod with a smile. And then he opens the door. They both exit the house and the camera pans out to show that its actually a maze of sets. A creation, A facade, A fourth wall. When they leave it’s like they’re leaving all these stage sets as if she’s saying, come with me, I’ll take you from all of this plastic and remind you of who you are but even then, it’s a never ending labyrinth they must traverse together. It means a new beginning, a new era of new challenges. But he's walking next to his human self his art, more confidently than ever. Namjoon is finding himself and at this point, maybe he felt that he’s in the right place but he’s hasn't felt like the right person
As apparently the story seems to be largely based on one of Joon’s books, the Midnight Library and the woman he exits through the door with is the librarian, I need to finally read it for maybe some added understanding. But definitely vibes relating to one of his top favorite films Decision to Leave and I also feel some resonance with Everything Everywhere All At Once His mentioning multiverse theory several times, it feels these themes are broad and left open to interpretation. Which I absolutely love, as we can each make the story our own
The woman reflects his music. There was his young music in the crib w JH and Suga. His times he gorgot to shower bc of making music. His frustration with making music (laundry fight with Suga), His hidind from music, his finding new music, becoming comfortable again with music, old friends, his music family, then opening a new chapter, walking through a new music labyrinth.
Yo this mv was beautifully shot. The acting, the cinematography, the song.. All an 11/10🔥🔥 Im a sucker for cinematic music videos so YOU KNOW i was (and STILL AM) going nuts for this mv
I love the various ideas My theory If you know RMs work every mix tape and album is different from the last. He is continuously pushing boundaries. Which means hes always exploring uncharted territories. In way thats what is also happening in the mv. RM wanders around depressed confused and unhappy through all these potential different lives and expectations never being comfortable anywhere.. We see this has been so since he was small. At some point he becomes more comfortable in each scenario after being united with his other half/ self he can be more comfortable with others. But he still doesnt stay, he moves on finds himself and accompanies the woman( other half Jung or Plato?) out of the maze of societies expectations to find non of it's real. In the light he sees its all fake sets designed and created by someone else. However with RM there is always light at the end. Hope of better futures now he can see what life is about, he is free of those boxes. There are several clues for ARMY buried within the MV. Pain Devine. During a conversation piece with Pharrell Williams they discussed judging lyrics by how painful they are to produce ...pain divine, devine inspiration?
💜💜💜 thankyou for reacting, hope you have a wonderful day. And I understand that you are really excited about chat they are pretty funny 😂 do whatever you want to do, it's your journey.
The last part where the woman was calling him to come with her gets me so emotional idk why it feels like death to me. Not a dark death but like he was satisfied with his life and he welcomes death 😢
My interpretation is that , The woman is his inner self ..as u see he was able to open the door only with this person (inner self) .. because only after he recognises and accepts his inner self he was able to open the doors (as he thinks he is trapped inside)and see the bigger picture that it is just the phases of life
The MV is evoking *Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind* and David Bowie's MV for *Thursday's Child* - the fear of **Making The Wrong Choice**, only to find You're Exactly where you're mean to be 💜 Their Garb at the end is dyed like the Traditional Garb of Korean Buddhist Monks, the Jangsam. The Cycle of Death and Rebirth is Ended when you escape the Wheel (Maze). There are Seven Openings on any given wall in the spaces Joon moves through, most associated with a Color. hello. on my small little opinion I think that maybe it would be best to not react to a song you're listening to for the first time while live. I've been here since you started with hope on the street and one of the things and draw me in and actually made me anticipate your reactions was how you'd take that song and your thoughts on it and I think the chat took it away. I really wanted to see what your thoughts on the song and MV were but you were thinking together with the chat which ~for me~ isn't the same. But it might be just me, other people probably loved this way and who am I really? Hahaha I think the chat is great when you're reacting to a performance or compilations bc army can give you some context you missed from those videos. But listening to a song or album for the first time I think you'd be better if you'd done by yourself. but I'm okay with whatever you choose, I'll still be here and I actually hoped you'd read some theories going on twitter about the mv. there are so many good theories!!!!
i don't think the mv is supposed to be linear at all, the different doors give me the impression that it's just like different realities he could be trapped in
Maybe this is just my personal preference, but I prefer no distractions during a reaction so that I can immerse myself as if for the first time again alongside the reactor, so I would like it better if you kept your little avatars and cinematic additions to the parts when the song isn't playing (at least for the first time round) so I can truly experience it with you. Obviously no pressure, do things how you want to, just a viewer's (and Tribe member's) perspective. Love the video otherwise!

"Hello child, have you done your taxes today? Where's the job?" LMAOOOOOO!!!!!!
Namjoon IS THE ANTI-TikTok! He just put out a 6minute 28 second song and said he did not give one single FOCK what anyone thinks!
and the short version of the song being 4 minutes,, still longer than most songs out there lmao
This is the kind of song that wins grammys
Indigo deserved one so bad!!!! And I feel like RPWP will be so great too 💜
It should.. but we know how the grammys are..
