Not just that he said in the episode with Jimin that he felt suffocated with the way people expected him to speak up for everything & always be caught up on everything in the world. The boys are put on such a pedestal we forget they are just 7 musicians from korea they can solve the worlds problems. With whats going on with a bunch of fans boycotting bts music for faults of not theirs he was calling everyone out

i just wanna say, with the way the sk government has been trying to use them as much as possible for a long time, that's what the "not a fucking diplomat" line is referring to most likely and he doesn't want to be used to represent them cause he's just a guy and a musician. he's not saying he never wants to speak on anything ever (and also this whole album was written last year not in this current climate).

There is only one direct tangible way to support and artists art where they actually sense and see it and anything less is a disservice. BTS doesn't exist to play a role in your starving artist fantasy or to make you feel better. they work hard to make their art, they deserve to see tangible results for it.

jonathan just to let you know, "not a fucking diplomat" is a lyric calling out the SK government and their enlistment.
album was written on early 2023 and BTS have ALWAYS spoken about the injustices going on, because while they are not diplomats, they've always understood there is a power in influence and they've always strived to influence ARMYS and the general public.
it's just an FYI because i still see people against boycotting to force hybe to divest from zionism and that is something BTS would never stand for, losing morals for s company to be greedier is actually what they go against in multiple of their songs, and i'm sure if they were not legally bound right now to not be able to state personal opinions due to serving in the military, they as people would be as supportive as they have been before towards Palestine.
just thought to let you know, there is a difference in being a diplomat and being a good person with a healthy understanding of your influence (which he and the rest of the boys have always been).
this would never be a jive against speaking yourself (which namjoon encouraged in a literal UN speech), but a jive at the people using them for political ploys.

  • @rkivelover
    @rkivelover 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

When he says "not a fucking diplomat" he's most likely referring to how BTS are used as political pawns by the government and have been forced into being "representatives of korea" or "asian representation", and while they say that they are honoured to undertake these duties, they are also just people and such pressure is definitely a burden. Namjoon especially, as the leader and spokesperson in foreign countries as the english speaker, has to be the peacemaker and deflect pointed questions while still maintaining BTS' image. It's been really hard on him, especially when he worries about not representing his members well enough.

Sorry for the really long ass comment but if you want to know most of the tea, here's the context of this song :
He's definitely dissing some people. For the lyrics of the whole album in general we are getting the idea that he got his heart broken and it was a toxic relationship for a long time but now he's free and venting everything. Also, this is mostly of how pressured he felt as a leader of bts bc of all the weight of expectations and responsibilities. BTS has worked so hard and RM got really burned out the last years and he had to take some time alone to discovered himself again.
BTS is the biggest group in the world right now and since 2017 they have received recognition for the economic contributions to the country, contributions to spreading Korean culture and language around the world through their music and performances and for helping to popularize K-pop on a global scale. Because of this they ended up receiving the "Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit" from the President of South Korea in 2018. This is like a huge prestigious award and the ones who have been previously awarded have DECADES of experience while BTS at that time only had 5, which makes BTS the youngest recipients ever. They are also the first and only singers in the "idol music" that have made it
Anyways, years later other kpop companies asked for a military exemption for idols using BTS' achievements (BTS' company never participated in that). Bc of this the "BTS law" was created. The government decided that K-pop stars can postpone their military service until age 30 if they have that culture merit award. Then the companies complained saying that "It was unrealistic and that it was a law just for BTS" how ironic when they were the ones using their achievements to get benefited lmao. nevertheless after BTS was getting bigger and bigger, politicians suddenly started discussing a military exemption for them which caused a divided public opinion. They got a lot of hate fo this for YEARS even when they never asked for it.
RM has represented the group many times as the leader, he worked nonstop and also did a lot of speeches even at the the UN and the white house. BTS end up getting diplomatic passports and they are proud of that but also feel the pressure. The thing is that people started mixing BTS with politics and stuff and that's when RM said like "hold on, I'm just a normal boy that loves to rap and sing, I'm not a politician".
That's the line: "Not a fcking diplomat. I just made it and now they are pressuring me to step up, Like I represent something? All I represent is myself"
For example: The South Korean Government used BTS to do a free concert in the city of Busan to benefit in some "World expo", but the organization was terrible and the worst is that they didn't want to pay anything, so BTS and their company had to do it. Many people ended up blaming them instead of the politicians that planned everything in the first place. After that, BTS announced their decision to enlist to the military service. That took for surprised the government and left politicians embarrassed for never taking a decision lol. Of course they tried to benefit of them again asking BTS to do the military service AND free concerts despite BTS mentioned they needed a break and that's why they were on a "hiatus" This makes me so mad.
Also about the line: "Not a fcking monk. Speaking of me, the things they say get misconstrued"
It probably refers when RM went to a temple and some monks knew he was going to visited them and secretly contacted the media and reporters. They secretly took pictures of RM and a monk literally leaked the private conversation he had with RM talking about his worries, the military service and stuff. RM later saw that and shared on his IG stories: "“i was thankful for the good time but i didn't expect an article to be published about it next time, i will go to another temple quietly.. #lowkeymustbelowkey”.
You can tell he was pissed and honestly fck those monks- Namjoon is tired of people not treating him as a human, he deserves respect and privacy too.

Knowing that they are regular dudes who makes music, im not expecting them to be a mouthpiece for the country as a whole. But they are humans so to say nothing while a genocide is happening? I’m holding them to the same standards as the people in my daily life. You’re right, BTS are not gods but again, they are human. That’s all you need to be to condemn what is happening. wanted to talk about this too in your stream but it got too overwhelming, so I'll say it here.
these are my thoughts on your interpretation of the diplomat line:
you assumed that the diplomat line was meant for people who expect them to speak up about humanitarian issues. this can't be true if you know the meaning of the word 'diplomat' and would also have terrible implications IF he meant it the way you think he did. activism ≠ diplomacy.
you said that people treat him like god. i'm assuming that it's about people wanting bts to speak about humanitarian issues. i'm not treating myself or my friends & family like god when i say that it is our responsibility as humans to speak up for other humans.
i would argue that the people who would excuse them from this common human responsibility are the ones treating them like gods.
these expectations don't come from a place of viewing them as gods. it's genuinely from a place of desperation. no one made any demands for the first few months. now, we have 5 armys we need to help evacuate from gaza & it's not like we have all the time in the world. donations are trickling in so slowly. none of us are millionaires... we need all the help we can get.

so what you're saying is that months into a genocide, a bts member released a song that's saying he refuses to speak up because he's not a diplomat? even though this song was written before all of this & is more likely to be a jab at the government who wants bts to clear up their mess. as an army, i wouldn't twist his words like this.

Army is a terrible fandom towards him. He works the hardest. The fandom demands him and only him a lot, but supports him the least. The fandom loves the other 6 and love to attach them to nj’s intelligence and talent, but the fandom protect them and treat them like babies while always throwing rm under the bus and using him as the shield for the other 6. This fandom wants him to say and act any way they want, and if he doesn’t, they attack him and only him. The fandom has done boycott and hate campaigns towards him since the beginning. They just made a whole hate campaign bc … he shared a Frank ocean song on his IG. Everytime he shares a song (he always love to do this), the fandom does a background check on any artist and starts harrasing nj. Anyway, army is a kpop fandom who only care about manufactured kpop boys.

1:35 i hope you also don't misunderstand his lyrics which he hates, the diplomate line is for the SK greedy government and how they treat them
Edit: Others saying other assh0les also treat him harshly, i never disagreed with that however by the literal definition of "Diplomat" I do think its about the SK using them for Expo also when they pressured them to perform while in military 🪖.. Of course there are many other examples and I am not dismissing them as well
