The night sky seems peaceful and orderly. But in reality, stars are careening through the galaxy at speeds of hundreds of thousands of kilometres per hour. Not bound by static formations but changing neighbourhoods constantly. Fortunately space is big, and so the stars of the Milky Way are very unlikely to hit us. Unfortunately, they don’t have to hit anything to make us have a really bad time on earth. And there are already stars starting to get very close.

@A Moye uh no, it was something heated by something to cause a release of energy that formulates different fundamental particals that eventually become basic atoms that get more complex over time as new stars allow for high pressure environments. We aren’t magical monkeys, either, as we are just normal animals on the evolutionary tree that luckily gained the trait of having dense enough neurons in our cerebral cortex, allowing us to form relatively advanced cognitive abilities.
The Earth is only viable for us to live on it because we changed for the Earth, not the other way around. Also, the Earth isn’t perfect, we can only live sustainably on less than 10% of its surface

I just love how they can start by explaning the gravity and the chaos that the universe really is, and end up telling a story about a far away possible future, where the earth is a type of myth, and that all in just 9 minutes! This could have been an epic sci-fi show of like 4+ seasons
There is a Chinese movie on Netflix called "The Wandering Earth" that is loosely based on this idea. In that movie the sun is expanding so humanity intentionally knocks earth out of orbit to begin the long journey to new solar system. Nice B movie action flick.
Maybe "Space: 1999" (1975) is the kind of tv show you are looking for. As child (in 75: ok, ok, I'm old :-)), I was a big fan of this TV show: Collecting stuff and having booklets for/with stickers, comics, the tv show itself, board games, space ship models etc. etc. :-). The story: Due to some nuclear explosions, the moon left the orbit of earth. The lunar base residents have to face some adventures in space.
Another "retro" classic from this time: "Star Maidens" (1976) - A plant is passing the earth and the inhabitants are visiting earth (but it's a a matriarchal planet: Women are the boss, men are servants :-))
My favorite movie about this topic (planets are crossing our solar system): When Worlds Collide (1951). And finally "Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun" (1969, a second earth is behind the sun on the same orbit).
Movie from that era are not so much about action, blood, weapons, shootings violence and explosions, etc.. The story is the main part. And their FX/effects are, compared to today, funny, simple and very "retro". However, maybe that's reason why I like them :-)

If you seize the means of production, a corrupt politician will still make exceptions and create subsidies for the highest bidding lobbyist. Some are better than others, but no party or ideology is immune from corruption.

Socialism does work, however it operates at peak efficiency on a micro scale & is vulnerable in massive populations. Likewise, Capitalism is very efficient, but it often exhausts itself resulting in cycles of extreme delusion and turmoil.
I believe it's a balance & it varies with scale. The bigger your country, the less power the central government should get & the more power local governments should get. However, It's really hard to give a definite answer because there's so many different ways humans are able to exploit these systems.
If I were to try and sum it up idealistically, I'd say centralize information & decentralize power. Communist ideas can be compatible with a capitalist economy. We just are plagued with the endless task of trying to regulate thousands micro-economies within one big country.
But with all of that said, the "least corrupt" system is ANY system that was set in place under informed citizens who mutually consent with government & it's policies, and have the freedom to leave if they so choose.

thinking about disasters is probably the most powerful human survival mechanism. If your ancestors didn't tought about possible disasters you wouldn't be here probably. And probably you would not have a long-living ancestry after you are gone if you don't think about It.
This kind of video is the perfect argument of why we all humanity should TODAY unite in a common goal: Making human Interplanetary. Once we become an interplanetary species. Our chances of going extinct by almost ALL possible disasters go almost to 0.

@@Ryuseigan Nah, solar flare will kill a lot of people and destroy the entire infrastructure of half of the planet, but it's very survivable. The unaffected half of the planet may recover in a matter of months or a few years. And a lot of countries that were hit by the flare would loose all modern technology and after the chaos and histerics are done they will re-industrialize really quickly. We're looking at a maximum 100 years disruption.
It's the super-vulcanos that we have to worry. Even climate change won't extinguish us, it'll "just" make parts of the planet uninhabitable and kill billions, but those in already safe places, like north us, north europe, russia, etc will mostly suffer economic problems, specially because most of those are developed nations and can respond to crisis much more effectively than undeveloped countries (assuming the fact that no absolute idiot becomes a world leader, or something).
I know, right?
As terrifying as Earth being ejected from the solar system sounds, it could honestly be the thing that enables humanity to outlive the sun's expansion.

The movie pandorum comes to mind too. But that's more of a space ship full of people rather then the entire planet.

It could make for an amazing movie! But Hollywood would end up ruining it and making it terrible.
Thing is, it would take place over an incredibly long amount of time... so you would need to use different people at each different stage of the plot.
I’m pretty sure their was a movie made in China where something similar happened, the only difference was that humans intentionally drove Earth out of the solar system to escape an expanding sun (its set in the year 2075 its called the wandering earth

This seems strangely on point with Endless series planet - Auriga. By lore it started having longer and longer winters, eventually just freezing completely, yet humanity either dig down deep or sent away a generation ship with cryostasis, surviving this way. I think the problem with these habitats would be that we might degrade technologically, it would be really hard to set up habitats on a scale to be entirely independent, so probably there will be some spare parts, and eventually something can break down that you won't be able to fix. Good thing if that's a house and not a reactor that kept all of you alive

Not very optimistic for the mass of humanity and most of Earth's biosphere. But hopeful for the human race. Millions are more than enough to ensure genetic diversity, so people will survive.
What should be kept in mind is that it was said, that we would know of this events 1000 years in advance. Realising what humanity did in the last 2.000 years in terms of technology or even in the last 100 years I think we could be save from these events / dodge them by escaping. But we should focus on making it that far before we kill our planet
