I think a dummy beam with a matching one the other side is a good idea. Sharon is doing a great job on those cupboards, she does such a lot. Merlin made me laugh running round, into the garden then appearing through a different door. I presume lovely Dougal was sleeping. Baby Charlie looks so happy and little Frank looks so grown up in his uniform. The mixed grill is a great purchase for all its contents. I am really looking forward to the reveal of your living room. It's hard work but worth it. Thank you both.
Hello Guys Sharon you're like Wonder Woman, swimming, decorating,, looking after baby charlie, cooking for all the family. Hope your back gets better soon Martin. Every Blessings ❤❤
Martin don’t just pin a batten to the side of the joist you’ll be wasting your time mate, can guarantee it’ll just crack again, as I mentioned previously you need to fix noggins between the current joists to strengthen it and make it all more rigid, the noggins are pieces of timber placed between the joists every mtr or so, to tie everything together & reduce movement.
Good God Martin! Have some carbs and calm down! Get on the pavement Sharon. There is no pavement! Do this! Do that! Wife - I feel sick. Husband - I have a bad back! How I admire your patience Sharon! But love the two of you 😁❤️
That was a lovely, packed video. Thank you both. You wark so hard to include us, when you are both so very busy, Thank you. xx Young Frank and baby Charlie, are both gorgeous always. Love to doggies to. I absolutely LOVE chops. I get all the fat crispied up and sometimes cook the meat too long but I like it that way. Lingo TV Show says. You made a choice and it is the right choice because it is your choice. I agree. lol Hope you both get well soon. Take care. Fay x x
My sister uses chalk paints for her furniture...they are gorgeouus. She lives in a farm house in the country..She does a lot of decorating. The art that she adds to her furniture is really beautiful.
I was going to suggest a beam over that crack but wider than the one you have if possible to get good screw fixings , then you said it 🤣👏 think that is a better option but I wouldn’t paper just paint . Fantastic size of a room but a lot to do when decorating, it’s going to look great 👍 love seeing the pooches they’re beautiful
Hi martin I'm paul the decorator in Austria reference your crack spray expanding foam either side of the cracked when it's dry cut off the excess thi should give it rigidity to tape and plaster
Unfortunately it shrinks overtime- how long I cant say but it won't be convenient when it appears better to take care of it now while your working all around there anyway
Looks great. I actually like that ceiling board good idea to add another (break up the ceiling space). Waiting for the inevitable Harry Enfield comment "Only me! You don't wanna do it like that ya wanna do it like this!".
Martin that mixed grill looks delicious! Made my mouth water! Good luck with the decorating. We going to start our lounge diner soon. Need to take out an archway in the middle. Only eggbox walls, but they cut the coving putting it up, and cut the carpet round it too, so new carpet as well! Sharon, loving the new painted furniture, do love a bit of recycling! Been looking after 3 of our grandkids for 2 days, so chilling out today, watching you lovely people ❤
Gonna have a drinking game next time you have something wrong Martin, so every time you say what's wrong gonna have a drink another 30 min vlog going to be pretty drunk i think after the amount of times you said about your back 😅😂. Only joking get better soon.
Hi M and S, just wanna say that I bought a cosori pressure cooker for my sister Sarah. As shes a busy girl. And she loves it. Mark her hubby bought her the grand cosori airfryer. And she loves that too. They are now known as Martin and sharon lol xx oh and ive just treated myself to to a pressure cooker 😊. Happy days xx
Martin do the same on the other side of the ceiling and make a feature of it. Make it look like beams or paint them grey, the same colour as as the wooden furniture.
Totally agree with you Martin, it is viruses that we are catching, especially after convid. Sharon your painted living room furniture is going to look amazing, fair play to you tackling it yourself!! Watched a man renovate his kitchen for 3 grand, contractors wanted 25 grand!! So if you can do it yourself good for you. ❤❤
Hi from Scotland Martin have you got a bad back lol 😅 great vidio Sharon you living room is going to look lovly what a lot of work we'll done both of you I like the bit of wood you have put up take care
Martin when you do your fasting. Do you drink enough is your kidneys flushing through enough that can give you lower back pain Hope it gets better soon 💃🏽💃🏽
Sharon, you are so blessed to have a husband that is so knowledgeable and willing to fix things themselves. Might not be a big deal until you're stuck at the mercy of people who don't know what they are doing. there goes your next holiday... LOL
Just as my husband always says, you can’t just fill in the crack or you will be fixing it again in a few months. The temporary board looks good, with another one , it would look like a feature. Can’t wait to see the wallpaper up.Sharon.Good choice of T-shirt Martin ❤
if you have spare laminate flooring boards cut about 8 short strips say 10 inch by 3 inch. use a multitool to dig out the thickness of your strips out the ceiling joist. slid the straps in spanning both ceiling boards and screw up through joist and both sides of ceiling. should be strong enough to hold then plaster.
Hope you feel better soon with your Back Martin, that was very interesting what you were saying about the two others with the same issue, could be that its something going about who knows really, doing well with the decorating considering the issues you have had crop up, glad you managed to sort your heating problem out though, the mixed grill looked lovely ❤😊🤗
Hope you get the ceiling sorted soon Martin as you don't want your back getting worse.love the colour of the units Sharon is painting. Well that was a good price for your mixed grill but hope Sharon feels better soon to.
I was just thinking about some sort of plastic trim from Eurocell to go over the crack but I don't think it would take paint and might not have as much strength as wood.
I think you should keep the beam up it looks lovely and put one the other side it will look amazing x and at Christmas you can hang ceiling Dec's from them, Sharon you are amazing to tackle that big room and the colours are gorgeous, Martin I had that horrible back last week I blamed it on chair yoga 😂 I did some cat stretches to ease it xx love your family you are all so nice , please kiss the dogs for me ❤
U look so busy all the time ,bit like me 5 kids ,7 grandchildren pair of twins at 2 and another 2 grandchildren at 2 ,4 of them all 2 years old but we wdnt change it for the world ❤
Hi Martin and Sharon .. I love watching you your channel.. Martin I no you don’t need telling but please be careful with your back 👍 Sharon your painting skills look great and I can’t wait to see the finished lounge and furniture.. I’m sorry Martin if the ceiling is not going so well but you are the right person to fix it and I’ve no doubt you will… also that mixed grill for 6.99 is a bargain.. here in fakenham Norfolk that would cost about 14 pounds 😳😳 it’s so expensive here compared to where you are… anyway send love to you both and the dogs and to all the family.. keep the long videos coming .. sending love.. Tony the carer in fakenham Norfolk ❤️❤️
Leave the beam up Martin. And match it to the other side look alright to be fair and if u do paper over it it won’t stick out that much. If u did get ur plaster to repair it the crack would re appear anyway over time
Martin, for me - I would expanding foam each side and along the joist - trim it up if needed and then I would either fill & screw a cover board across it with one matching at the other side to make a feature - or just fit a cover board and paint. You could of course just screw a cover board up and not foam but that is your choice. Remember the joists are usually 18" centers aren't they? I wouldn.t bother trying to paper over the cover board I think you are just inviting more trouble - just paint it same as the ceiling paint.
Have you thought about another dummy beam and another joining the two beams and fittings led strip lights, so that when you are watching television you do not have to put the remaining lights on in your living room ??
Use thin pieces of wood to slide inside the ceiling enough so you can put a screw through the ceiling and into the piece of wood, then screw the wood to the joist, no need to go up into the attic.
Hi Mart N Shaz, sorry it's been too long since I sent a message! Still watching regularly of course...about the back pain , I've got it on the left driving me mad but have to carry on prob is a virus like everything these days. Doing a good job Shaz on your furniture looking forward to the finished room, keep it up. Mart lie on your right side😂😂 luv ya both ❤❤
Oh guys you are so busy with the house and things going wrong for you. Martin I think that will look good with a dummy beam and one: to match at the other side. Hope your back improves and Sharon I hope you are not coming down with anything. Lovely mixed grill. Thanks for sharing and great to see baby Charlie and Frank who is all grown,up now. Take care ❤🇦🇺
Hi Martin I hope your back gets better soon and Sharon I hope your not sickning for any thing but that bug is going round and some b people are being sick with it that mixed grill looked so lovely love fran xxx❤❤❤❤
Martin cut some thin plates that slips under the plaster board across the joist then under the other board then fix thin plates to the joist down middle then galvanised screw plaster up
I'm 27 tomorrow January 29th Matthew from Northumberland hopefully going for a mixed grill in our local pub the granby inn it's a great pub in our village delivers takeaway etc
Hi sounds like scactia your bck.iv had it few times sharp pain starts agony. Love the painting sharon what is chalk paints difference please 😊 thanks vblog x
Hi Martin, re the ceiling problem, why not cut on the joists either side of the crack and then install new plasterboard. The joists are normally 400 mm centres so the total area to be replaced approx 800 mm wide. Hope this helps ? Colin
I kid you not Martin, I'm up in Glasgow and I've had lower back pain for a couple of weeks now. It's only this week I've been able to go back to the gym. It's affected my sleep at night too as I just couldn't get comfortable.
Hi Sharon & Martin 👋🏼 Can I ask is there a certain brand of masking tape you recommend? And do you take the tape off when the paint is still wet or do you wait for it to dry please? Thanks in advance 💜💜💜
That’s the trouble with slap and dab , my walls moved and they had to re do it , my dining room ceiling sags because it wasn’t fixed properly, I sympathise with you,it’s unbelievable what we have to sort out 🤦🏻♀️btw I can’t access what you have bought,i was going to buy the castor oil,i have bought things off your list before, but it’s not showing me now 🤦🏻♀️ 16 miles did me in ,all praise to them 😎 the mixed grill looked yummy ,are you more keto than carnivore now ? Thankyou for sharing 👏👏😎💖
Loved the video, can see that crack its frustrating, Id fill the gap with a strip of wood then put a nice bit of lightweight molding over the area, then Id hope to do the same on the other side of the fireplace so they match, sod wallpapering bits of wood. Ever thought about castor oil on your back, it might help, it cant hurt can it.

Oooooh that looks lovely Sharon, your doing a great job on that cabinet.
Martin. Use expanding foam in the crack. Once dry it will be very solid, no flex, save a lot of time and hassle.
Looks great. I actually like that ceiling board good idea to add another (break up the ceiling space). Waiting for the inevitable Harry Enfield comment "Only me! You don't wanna do it like that ya wanna do it like this!".

Wow what a Mixed Grill. 👏👏👏
Mustard is missing haha
