Are We Camping Yet ?

  • Jason Irwin and Scott Duncan team up for some low key relaxing times in Algonquin Park. I'm trying to give people a taste of the sights, sounds and ultimately the feelings that we derive from these parks and other natural places. An entertaining tease for those who have yet to experience it .....and a crutch for those of us who know the score.

    I really like this kind of camping/canoeing channel. I like the gearing up, the packing, the going to, the putting in, and the great views of water, land and sky.
    I love water, and it just bruises me to fly past beautiful lakes like these and not be able to breathe in the ambience that each body offers.
    Thanks for the peace.

    Just came across this today, although I’ve watched a lot of your videos. So glad to see you teaching your kids to enjoy nature. I grew up camping (in Algonquin) and our kids grew up camping and canoeing/kayaking. I still backcountry canoe in Algonquin with my daughter; our son lives too far away now, but with a grand-daughter on the way, I think the tradition will continue. Cheers from London (Ont.)

    Have you ever tried a tumpline on your canoe? Real shoulder saver on those first 2 days following a hiatus. I use some 2" webbing tied to the gunnels. Works awesome. Be sure to tie a light shock cord back to the rear thwart to ensure the the tumpline doesn't wrap around your neck in case you took a tumble.

      Hi there! The cedar strip is 14' and weighs 60lbs.
      It's the "Puddle Duck" design by Gil Gilpatrick. He has a book with the plans to build it. The new boat is a Swift Keewaydin 15' carbon and it weighs 30 lbs. You can get all the specs for it on the Swift website. Lastly, Big Red is an Evergreen Willow 17' and it weighs close to 60 lbs.

    Asking your opinion. In the rain, which is better, hammock or tent? What's your choice?

    • @JasonIrwinTumblehome
      @JasonIrwinTumblehome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually like the hammock better but I suppose it depends on what kind of trip. If there are lots of bugs its nice to have a tent to sit in. In the rain ,its just so nice to be able to step out of the hammock, stand up, have a pee etc. Hammock always stays dry and you can fold it up out of the way and your fly becomes your tarp. I have both but use the hammock 90% of the time.

      It is a heavy unit. For years I thought it was 50 to 55 lbs but its actually 60... Finally weighed it and that was all the push I needed to go buy a lightweight boat. I had been wanting one for years!
