  • *TIMING INDEX BELOW, SKIP AROUND!* Here we have the new Dual Filter Eurorack module from Soundforce. It’s an OTA based design that has it’s routes in the later updated Korg MS-20 filter cores. The Dual Filter is a dual independent mono filter where each of the filters can be set to low pass or high pass filter modes with jumpers on the back of the module. Patching one side into the other we can make HP-LP series processing chains, patch in dual mono, stereo or parallel processing and we can also make band pass filters by using both sides.

    ** THIS VIDEO IS SPONSORED BY SOUNDFORCE ** they have commissioned the creation of a demo video by me. My videos are demonstrations / overviews and NOT reviews. I aim to show the raw sound and features of a device and follow that with musical examples to not only show you what the device is but also to share tips and tricks and synthesis tips. This is actually pretty amazing. Modulation wise two inputs for each channel could provide for some amazing sounds blending four different oscillators in stereo

    Shame it's quite hard to get hold of - I only found a couple of places selling this (in Europe).
    Apart from that it looks a very versatile filter. I've been looking at Patching Panda's Moon Phase (stereo filter), which also looks very interesting. However, when you see this, although the two filters are designed differently, you wonder if something like this (also cheaper price) can/could be more versatile in the long run. If Soundforce added some sort of stereo control it would take this module to another level.

      I don't mind the jumpers too much and having the extra inputs and modulation is a good use of space.

      @@soundforcenicolas797 There looks like there's ample space between the two Freq or Res knobs to me for a mini-toggle switch(?)! This was, unfortunately, a deal-breaker for me given this was to be my first filter module. Eurorack / modular can already be a PitA compared to a DAW-based approach (which is where I'm coming from) and I do not want to be unscrewing modules from their locations simply to change filter modes! Once I've got an established Eurorack setup, I may reconsider and, having pertinent electronics skills, look into implementing this myself; however, for now, it was simply too much trouble: I just wanna have a setup I can readily make music with and I'm already becoming somewhat disenchanted with the modular hassle factor, the constant compromises and the seeming requirement for nothing to be straightforward or repeatable.

    Is -12V marked on the PCB, or are we expected to rely on the cable being wired correctly? I can't see it in the close up of the PCB, at 1:37

    • @soundforce_nicolas
      @soundforce_nicolas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry for the late answer! All my modules are using shrouded headers that can only be plugged in the right way. In the event that you are plugging the module if a bad inverted cable, the module is protected against inverted polarity and won't be damaged.
