Buying a Strapcode bracelet for my Seiko Samurai. Is this the best bracelet for this watch?

    I was ABOUT to go buy one of these, when I read one of the reviews on the StrapCode webiste that complained about being able to grip and turn the bezel when one of these Hexad bracelets is on it. I dismissed it at first, but then I took a closer look, and indeed, the factory Seiko bracelet has end links that are much more curved, freeing up space to get a good finger tip purchase on the bezel, whereas the Strapcode end links snug right up to the bezel, leaving little to grip. This may not be a problem for many watches with thicker bezels, but the Samurai has a very thin bezel and is quite firm. It was just enough of a problem that I decided to keep the factory Seiko bracelet, which I don't have any problems with. It helps that this is my first decent ($50+) mechanical watch, so I'm already super impressed with its quality.
    Anyhoo, I thought I'd chime in.

      There has been no issues with the bezel since I put this bracelet on.
      I had not even consider it.

    I have this exact bracelet on my PADI Samurai and a two colour - black and blue Crafter Blue on my STO blue whale Samurai. You can’t go wrong with either option for the Samurai.
    I’ve only just found this channel and subbed a few days ago.

      @@WATCHingJames I got the strapcode jub…I mean ‘Angus J’ for my SKX171 after 25yrs on a Waterborne Zulu strap.
      I was going to refurb’ the 171 but decided to keep it in original condition. It’s been massively abused and just keeps going, so I’ve put it back on the more appropriately rugged Zulu. This was my everyday watch for 23yrs and the search for a replacement is what led me down the rabbit hole into becoming a watch guy 3yrs ago…Oops.
      I decided to look for another 171 to refresh with sapphire and NH36. The 171 dial is I think a step up, with the applied indexes and grey dial colour. So I’ve kept the Angus J for that project.

    I just got the SRPF79J1 the Dark Manta and was considering getting this exact bracelet. It looks brilliant! About the price I think it makes more than a 20% improvement in quality and looks over the factory standard, so I think its worth the price. Just stunning, thank you for another great review.

    Hi James, have you ever considered an Islander bracelet for the Samurai? it looks almost identical to this Strapcode's, with the only difference being the buckle, but for about half of the price. Do you have any experience with this brand? I can hardly find anything about it on youtube. Thx

      Hello, I had a Islander - the ISL003 - I’ve made a video about it. Check it out.
      It was one of the early models and did not have this style of bracelet.
      I know Mark sells. Or sold strapcode bracelets. Not sure if he is now using them or has made his own version of them.

    The original bracelet is just not bad enough to spend 30% of the value of the watch on. Most samurais are $350-450. My SRPE33 was $350, so 1/3 of the cost just isn't worth it. I don't get why people hate on the Seiko bracelets. Like, what do you want for a few hundred dollars? LOL. Go buy a $1500-2500 watch if you expect everything to be such high quality. People want the highest quality for the absolute unsustainable price. They have a severe disconnect with the costs of machining a product and the money it costs to bring it to market. They think that $1000 for a handgun is way too expensive, but they whine when their $400 gun isn't perfectly finished and 100% reliable. You can't manufacture a gun that is sold for $400, that is also perfectly finished, 100% reliable, and with all the features people expect. It's just not possible. Same goes for watches. My watch was $350, that means Seiko sold it to the retailer for around $250-300. So seiko had to have manufactured it for $150-200 to make a profit.

    • @WATCHingJames
      @WATCHingJames  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The original bracelet is perfectly fine. But I love this watch so much that I was happy to over invest in it by getting this bracelet.
      I also really love a good quality bracelet. It’s part of the reason I like wearing watches.
