Transit operators work any day of the week no matter if it's a holiday or not, no matter if it's rain, snow or below O degrees and 90 degree hot weather in the south and west coast. I'm just being honest with you Bus Driver Life!

The other day I drove on the highway during heavy rain for the first time. Traffic has slowed to 45mph. I looked in my mirror and the passengers couldn’t care less about the driving conditions and had full faith in me, meanwhile I wondered how they’d feel if they knew how nervous I was. 😂
All I can say, after 37 years Via bus operator. I'm going after the money. O yes.
As a bus operator, I want to say thank you for your services no matter what city you're at. I know some passengers could get on our nerves but we learned not to let them bring us down. I always tone them out.

In the 90s, I used to live in the city of Pomona, which is located at the county line between Los Angeles and San Bernardino. You can easily walk across the street and never think you are in another county or city. While it was a holiday for SB Omnitrans, it wasnt for Foothill Transit & LA Metro. LA Metro still had a few lines that werent absorbed by Foothill at the time. You always saw people waiting on the Omnitrans bus stops and see them looking at the other side of street watching people board the Foothill & Metro buses. Same thing at the transit center where each agency had its own side.

Yes. Transit bus companies do work on holidays, especially in NYC. For me, in my first year, since my work day fell on a Christmas (Sunday), I worked a regular Sunday schedule but the next day (Monday), we followed a Saturday schedule in order to observe the holiday. I didn’t mind as it was a regular day for me as I celebrated the day before (Christmas Eve) due to having an early shift that day so I was able to spend time with the family that night. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
We get 6 paid holidays - Xmas, New years, Thanksgiving, 4th, Memorial, Labor. No busses run. We also get 5 floating days off a year as well that we have to use or lose by the end of the year (paid). This is on top of regular sick leave and PTO we earn.
Thankfully at BCRTA we don't work Christmas or new years
I had to work for Christmas but thank goodness I was done before 3pm to go home to my parents for Christmas day.

As a rookie operator I worked a few christmases. Had a dayrun so my kids had to wait until midafternoon to open the gifts. They were going crazy by the time i got home! Now my kids are grown up and I get Xmas off every year. Merry Christmas everybody!

I don't get any holiday off. I still have to drive the light rail trains up here in Minneapolis when it's snow, rainy, cold and hot degree weather. I want to say God bless all the transit operators no matter what city or state your in, thank you for your service through good times and bad times.
How is it working the Rail In Minneapolis. I have been offered a job but worried about Pay,any overtime and cost of living? I haven’t been able to find any info on it.
@@keyacherry5551 I love it, thank goodness that I don't have to interact with people because I'm inside the booth. The benefits are awesome and I do deal with people playing with the doors trying to hold it for their buddies.
I love the public transportation in Minneapolis hands down especially your Gillig BRTs.

In New York, Suffolk County Transit bus does not operate major holidays including New Years. Westchester County Bee-Line Bus System doesn't operate on Thanksgiving and Xmas. MTA, Transdev NICEBus operate every day.
New Jersey Transit buses are very confusing because it depends on neighborhood.

Yes, here in Pittsburgh there is, but certain routes does not Run.
The first few years, I had to work holidays but now I don’t have to, so I think building up your seniority plays a part. However, since so many drivers around the country retired during the pandemic and some passed away, we had to work maybe 2 or 3 holidays out of the year but the company is trying hard to hire new drivers.
We have 1st and 2nd christmas day. I personally don't have to drive on christmas eve and the first christmas day. 2nd christmas day, I have to drive an event, so not even a regular transit busroute lol.

NOOOOOO. GOD PLEASE NOOOO. But all jokes aside some lines that we have at our transit agency like Xpress will not run. All other lines will run on Sunday & Holiday schedule. Merry Christmas Keywan!! 🎅 🎄 and all of our transit, families and drivers!!!

Been working Christmas and most holidays for the last 8 years as an operator
I used to be a Disney bus driver, and I worked Christmas and majority of holidays, depending on when the holiday falls on one of my regular days off.
I live in Jacksonville, Florida and I think it is a medium size city that works on holidays. Do you agree? I use to live in New York City and without a doubt bus drivers work on holidays.
Its so wrong that we do, I missed thanksgiving im going to miss christmas and newyears.

I know how it is to have to work on Christmas Day. Being in security, I can pretty much guarantee that I will be working on Christmas. Thank goodness for the Time and a half.❤️🎄
In my city we get all the major holidays off. Christmas, New years day, thanksgiving and the 4th of July. The days we do have to work on holidays we get paid double time and a half for ever hour worked.

ntd uses the evening shuttles in each holiday but they use people who dont really celebrate holidays

Yeah baby public holiday rates in Australia where I am is just over $100 an hour for xmas, triple time and the shifts average 7-10hrs. Most services still run but to a Sunday time table. Also I just noticed you don't seem to have any security screens! How are you protected from the public who are out to make trouble? In Melbourne Australia where I work we are pretty much enclosed in a hard plastic screen which makes it hard to spit, throw coffee, stab us, etc. I like your videos mate they should be a public service education system for those who want to ride

I was married to a lady who drove school buses for Laidlaw in San Francisco for 15 years, and then drove for AC Transit in Oakland for another 10 years. She passed away in 2014 from Lung and Breast Cancer. I want to ask you a question. Before the advent of clean power, I was Transportation Manager at Laidlaw and when I got to work at 5 am, 165 buses firing up their engines at the same time created a diesel cloud over the yard. I'm sure when she did her pre-trip at AC transit that cloud may not have been as intense because drivers started routes at different and staggered times. What I want to know is do you think that her inhaling those fumes all those years may have been a contributing factor to her cancer. I try to tell myself no, but I sometimes feel guilty, because I am the one who taught her to drive those 40 foot buses. Right before she got sick, she was driving the articulated buses.

I work holidays if it falls on my workday. Once every so many years I have Christmas Day off but Christmas Day is the best day of the year to work. Not many people.
Lol we work every day and every night mostly non senior drivers😂. I was lucky my off day fell on Christmas. 🤗🙌🏾
Yes I agree, like in Westchester County NY the Bee Line Bus system doesn't run on Thanksgiving day and Christmas day only buses you would see near or in Westchester County like Yonkers NY for example, is MTA Express Buses and Metro North Railroad.

Sure do. I’ll be getting paid double time for it too but obviously I’d prefer not to. But the public still depends on us. Already had tons of passengers ask if the buses are running

Finally got Christmas off for the first time because it falls on my day off. But if they need help, I’ll probably volunteer… easy money. Last year I think I had maybe 20 riders at most.
I try to work as many holidays as possible
At are transit system we can put in for a OBP(off by permission)..goes by seniority if you get it.
My question to you though what shift do you prefer to work...early mornings...late starter...afternoon..evenings or night.....I like nights 330pm till 230am( built in OT)...straight through work though I hate spilt work...nights seem to have less traffic and ppl..but of course more ppl who like to indulge in adult beverages..lol..take the good with the bad I guess

Bro this is totally amazing. Yes. In pierce county the buses are running christmas day. Yep and even for me as a working pianist I have worked durring the holidays not so much christmas day but christmas eve and thanksgiving and new years eve. People are sometimes shocked that I don’t have holidays off but for musicians our work continues on durring the holidays. As far as spending time with family I find ways to do that hahahahahah. Also people wonder when I will have food for thanksgiving. Sense I am working thanksgiving. Well, I got news. I always manage to find food either at work like this past thanksgiving or when I get back home. Hahahahah. So I feel you as far as working durring the holidays. You just plan your family time you just plan your family time around that. Hahahaha. Yep people still have to get places and people need background music for their celebrations.

@@BusDriverLife well, I feel you cause I am in the same boat hahaha. Different line of work but I get the fact of working during the holidays and having to plan family time around that hahaha. I totally get it and I have even shared with some of the bus drivers in pierce linty the same thing. Haha. They are some pretty amazing people and I tell them every day when i ride the bus. You know riding the bus for me puts me in the zone. I just zone out when i am on the bus. The bus can make you do that if you just set everything aside for a while as a passenger and just let the bus take you. It is easy to zone out.
I've been on and of these busses for years but I can't remember do some of you have to work on Xmas day is it good can you wear a Xmas hat or something for fun or not or just uniform as usual
Yes we do work on Christmas Day and we can wear a Santa hat or other holiday accessories. 😃

Been with my transit agency now for 7.5 years, worked my way up to 270/1,000 in seniority, and I *still* have to work Christmas! Our agency gives us time and a half + 8 hours of pay, and what I do is bank that 8 hours into a floating holiday I can use whenever I want… like when I wanna take a 10-day cruise to the Caribbean and Bahamas 😎 🤿🌴 🏝️ 🍹🍸🧉🥂🏖️🦪🍤🥐 🦞 🦞 🦞 🛳️
