I recommend 8 and even so, bottleneck is going to be awful, thrust me. I have like 8 Titans in Sli and Crossfire combined and I can barely play Minesweeper multiplayer, single player is playable in 480p at 20 fps I must say.
Overclock these bastards.. Set the core to 770 MHz and bump up the memory by 20 MHz (if artifacts occurs, set memory to default value) Green Ham Gaming did test out a single HD5450, and when overclocked it became quite capable
Try overclocking the bastards. I was able to get mine to 775mhz on core and 650mhz on the memory. After BIOS modding to run them at 1.2v (compared to the stock ~1v), 845Mhz was capable. With overclocking, these cards MIGHT be acceptable for low end gaming. Also try the latest beta driver.
It seems like the purpose of running two of these is if you want to run more than two monitors, as each card only supports two monitors. The other advantage is that you can run crossfire in a low-power system without any 6-pin or 8-pin power supply connectors. These might be the only saving grace to upgrade an older system on an extremely tight budget.
I remember having the agp variant of the hd5450 (it was 54xx something anyway) though it was a long time ago and I'd just moved up from a ragepro128 so it was a massive leap forwards. I still remember running the original Call of Duty and being blown away.
I think these were around $50 new, which means you could have gotten a crossfire setup for just $100 and I bet it would have handled most 2009 and prior games fairly decent. Interesting video...sure do love those HD cards ;)

Very cool video, with surprising results. I would be interesting to see the GPU usage on each card as well. I’ve been testing CFX recently for an upcoming video and I can’t get GTA 5 to use the 2nd GPU effectively. I’ve tried CAP profiles, Radeon Pro, AFR, etc...CFX with old cards and new games is pretty terrible. 4000 series cards BTW.

I didn't expect GTA V to run at more than 5 fps, 31fps is pretty impressive considering the cards used, even if frame latency was shocking. Not overly playable as such (maybe in a pinch) but I'm pretty impressed with performance for 2 squids. Great video; sub'd as fuck.
At least the HD 5450 is better than the gt 210 because it does support DirectX 11.0 unlike gt 210 which supports DX10... Great video as always and I enjoyed watching it 😊
This card was actually very good at what it was - a cheap, low power display adapter. I had a passive version from Gigabyte in an office PC and it never gave me any trouble; it could even play older XP-era games just fine.
the hd5450 (i have a sapphire and a gigabyte) is great for small form factor HTPCs next to the HD6350 (I found a VisionTek for cheap).. both very low wattage they can do 720p. Add a Core2Quad and 4 GBs of RAM, its an amazing machine. every damn HD5450 says it can do crossfire but there are no headers on the cards to do so or most don't have the breakout port on the back. It ticked me off for quite a while when i did want to experiment cheaply with crossfire. i ended up with 2 Palit HD4850 which are excellent cards, still do well together, and they temperatures never got to high. Surpised when i would get great framerates in Tomb Raider 2013!

Rimworld actually has some resource intensive effects and temperature calculations i believe are actually offset to the GPU but i cannot verify it. The lighting has it's effect as well on the GPU.
My first build had 2 crossfired hd5450s, a MSI and a Diamond, both passive cooled cards. Which was paired with 8gb of ddr3 memory and an Athlon cpu which I cant quite remember is name anymore

Good for you! In my country an used vga like this, around 30 usd, so this crossfire setup costs 60 usd, not 6 for me! And the average wages are a way lower than the most of the eu countries. 400 usd/month for a full time job!
My first PC had one of them init, came with a AMD Athlong x4 635 2.9ghz and 8gb ram (had laptops/ consoles prior) ... was running it until 2012/13, Granted 30fps but not bad for a card that isn't designed for it. AC Unity killed it.
The HD5450 was my first dedicated GPU... As long as you were ok with 720p 30fps, it was a fairly capable card. (Since I was just coming of a Xbox 360 I was). I managed to use that card on every major AAA title from 2010-2014 with AC:Unity being the last game I played on it... Running at 720p low 24fps and ultimately broke the card. I was stuck with onboards for a while which could just about manage 2008/09 games.
I had an 5450 from Sapphire. I used to overclock the thing to the max I used two old 60mm fans attached to the card. Got 1GHz (not so stable) on core, at 945MHz was rock solid. I want to buy 2 budget AMD cards to put on my daughter's system (spmething to pair with a Phenom IIx4 955 BE)

Playing with just one 5450 ends up being a much better experience. You have to lower resolutions and the overall frame rate is less, but the frame time is so much better! I think it is because the second card doesn't have to go through the motherboard to get to the first which isn't very fast and ends up waiting for it. I'd prefer 800x600 GTA V at 24fps, but with actual responsive controls than 1280x720 GTA V at 31fps but with almost a second of latency
fiddled the Fk out of hd3450,hd2450 and an hd3300 intigrated. the 3450 jives with hd2600xt but try as one might the possibilitys of enabling all 3 as tri fire no dice. also ran 4670s allbeit the 1g ddr3 and the 512 ddr5 models..uhhhh kinda failed because of ram differences always had a strange frame pace.

The last game I played was assassin creed unit on low 720 at 24fps.... At that point I knew it was done and bought a GT 640. But for a £20 card to last 3 solid years of gaming I fail to understand why people think it's trash.

I remember back in the day I had a HD 6450 it was terrible, I actually still own two and it wasn't that far back in the day because I upgraded from that to the RX580 as soon as it was released. So I am curious on trying to crossfire the two HD 6450 for fun but I know they suck lol
