I’ve only been in the fragrance hobby since 2020. So far I’ve been lucky.
The vast majority of my samples are from the brands themselves and I feel like they will do better than the decants. I have the decants upfront and try to use them often. And I have some empties now. My problem is, even when they are empty I don’t want to throw them away. And I also want to replenish with full bottles when I’ve liked the sample. I’m on a no buy and it’s been very hard to resist buying replacements.
A couple months ago I organized my samples alphabetically by brand and put them in baggies. I easily have over a hundred (maybe 200?) samples. I can’t imagine being a reviewer. My whole house would be chaos. 😂
I have a rule to use up all samples for a season by the time that season ends (it's officially Fall on Sept 22, so I have until then to finish up any Summer samples I have left). It helps!
My heart pains when they evaporate or become bad😢😢
I love samples and trying it at home too. It is not a cheap hobby, but I don't enjoy trying perfumes in the store. Too much stress 🤭 on the other hand, I find it quite easy to test them at airports

I use insulating tape and use up all decants within 2 years. 👍🏻
Curious if you recall how old these samples are that spoiled/evaporated? Are glass decants more long lasting than plastic?

I rarely test perfumes in stores, for the exact same reasons you mentioned :-) But I try to use up my perfume samples. I always take them with me on a vacation or a weekend trip.
*Makes not to self to go through my hundreds of samples once again. 😳
I’ve had the same problem as you with samples. I’ve actually had a couple of full sized bottles turn into a thick syrupy goopy gunk. So sad. 😢
I loved the other one from Nina Ricci in the same bottle but with other colors (green bottle, hot pink ca) as a kid. But couldn't pursuade my mom to get it. Discontinued now. 90's ones, think the had like 4 or more versions in that collection. First perfume I ever liked.
Also: I hate the samples of Dior: I had some of those evaporate in a week, because it has some opening, the atomiser is pushed into the sample tube abd detaches easily. And the sprayer is horrible. Oh well :p

I despise dabber samples. Grrrrrrrrr. They are so difficult to open without spilling juice and I don’t think you get a fair assessment of the scent from them. I will have to see if I have any of those sprayers I can repurpose. Thanks for the tip.
