LOVE THE NEW TATOO!I Loved What Moves the Dead and Our Wives Under the Sea and of course Eric LaRocca. I was blown away by Our Wives Under the Sea and I agree whole-heartedly that it's a book about grief, and going through that grief while the loved one is still alive. I don't think many books speak to grief at that level. I recently acquired Tell Me I'm Worthless and Queen of Teeth I can't wait to read them! AWESOME LIST!
I've started saving your videos to watch at night before sleeping because of how comforting your voice is even when talking about horror lol! I hope you become one of the most booked audiobook readers because your voice is seriously like a hug.
About T. Kingfisher: I don’t think Ursula is queer herself, but she’s had queer friends and colleagues longer than any person I’ve known her, and had a non-binary friend living on and taking care of her property and like that. I am delighted by your new tattoo. I hope it ages gracefully and brings the awesome for a long time to come.
That new tattoo rules. 💚 I'm so chuffed that almost everything here I've already read, or is high on my TBR. I absolutely haven't been able to stop thinking about Our Wives Under the Sea since I read it a couple of months ago, and I constantly think of the ending of Cabin at the End of the World. Literally every other day, at least. Immediately adding Queen of teeth and Sorrowland to my list!
What Moves the Dead was one of my favorites of 2022! I just bought Tell Me I'm Worthless and Our Wives Under the Sea.....I have been SOOOO excited to read them both. My TBR is steadily growing with the discovery of your channel!
Queen Teeth sounds absolutely wild! I am intrigued! I really liked Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo. I also read Feed Them Silence by them and I think you might like some of the conversations it is having!
I just ordered the British versions of Our Wives Under the Sea and What Moves the Dead because I love the covers!! I read both on ebook and loved them sooo much!! Had to have physical copies!! Have a Great Day, Lovely❤
I only finished Tell Me I'm Worthless a couple of weeks ago and can't believe it took me so long to get read it. I need to get round to some of the others on this list that I'm behind on as I suspect I'll enjoy them too
All of these are on my reading list. I've only read What Moves The Dead and completely agree with everything you said! A great way to expand on the original!
I haven't got round to "What moves the dead" but I finished audio of "Nettle&bone" and "The wizzard's guide to defensive baking". I liked both for different reasons, first is dark but still a sweet found family story, the other has bread golems dancing battle cancan...
Some of these I've read and some of these are a bit much for me but Sorrowland I hadn't heard of and immediately went to find at my library because that is EXACTLY my thing.
Fantastic list! Queen of Teeth sounds wonderfully terrifying! Am planning on reading Our Wives Under the Sea next month, I keep hearing good things about it. I've just read Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke last week, and wowzer... am still thinking about it, that one's gonna stick with me for a while. Really witty to start with and the descent into horror was so well executed. Very uncomfortable to read, but not in a bad way! I definitely need to read some more Eric LaRocca.
Ahh one of my absolute favourite subgenres! I would definitely add Into the Drowning Deep to this list and House of Hollow I'm currently reading Eyes, Guts, Throat, Bones by Moïra Fowley-Doyle, her first adult book and it's a sapphic horror short story collection and I'm so impressed so far !!
I'm currently reading Everything the Darkness Eats, from Eric LaRocca, and loving it. Got it from Netgalley, should come out in June. Loving it so far, but it is strong.
Such good recs!! I loved What Moves the Dead and Manhunt, also quite liked Tell Me I'm Worthless, so I will 100% be checking out the others because your taste is great! And I definitely had the same opinion about Parallel Hells. In a similar vein I think you'd enjoy Andrew Joseph-White's books, especially the upcoming The Spirit Bares Its Teeth which is imo fantastic and a similar type of gory body horror to a few of the books you mentioned here (despite the fact that it's ya). Also, Leech by Hiron Ennes is a fantastic horror read - the author is nonbinary and the book itself isn't explicitly very queer but the exploration of gender and identity definitely feels like it was written by a trans person in the best way. Plus the gothic atmosphere in that book is incredibly good.
I don’t think of myself as a horror reader, but I actually read four of these last year, the standout of which was Our Wives Under the Sea, it still haunts my imagination. I read Cabin at the End of the World, but much more preferred Leave the World Behind, which had a very similar premise. I don’t know if I would call it horror or not, I would group them both as apocalyptic literature. The Children’s Bible also fell into this grouping as well and I’d probably rank it second of the three.
Heya, great video. Eric LaRocca is trans and I think gay? Just finished Parallel Hells which is what brought me here, totally with you on that, some great stories, some really flat/obvious. And yes on It Came From the Closet, the last essay was terrible!
Loved what moves the dead and I neeed to pick up some Eric Larocca and so many other books on this list! Currently reading and enjoying Bloom by Delilah S Dawson
Great list... and new ink! I read a few of these. I very much enjoyed T. Kingfisher's "What Moves the Dead". I have what looks like her new book, "A House With Good Bones," near the top of my TBR & am looking forward to reading it very soon. It is noted as 'Southern Gothic' & sounds yummy. It shows release date was in March 2023, at least in the States.
Eric LaRocca is gay and uses he/they pronouns! I read « You’ve lost a lot of blood » and it was amazing, I also preordered their first novel coming out in June and I can’t wait to read all of his work
I was about to add The Trees Grew Because I Bled There, but no need :D I would, however, like to add They Drown Our Daughters by Katrina Monroe. I devoured it. It's got great atmosphere, great character building and is just incredibly gothic. If you haven't read it yet, I think you might enjoy it as well. Thanks for keeping my TBR unconquerable ;-)
Hi! I love your videos. I just finished reading "Exquisite Corpse" by Billy Martin AKA Poppy Z. Brite, and I have just ordered "Fluids" by May Leitz another trans author. I would love to hear some of your perspectives on splatterpunk books. Cheers and thank you for your literary analysis.✨ I will be reading many of your recommendations.
You're beautiful 😇 I recently ordered the orange copy of Parallel Hells so that it can be an orange trio with Terminal Boredom and Life Ceremony (i don't care how stupid that sounds). Also I hope you someday read and like Tripping Arcadia by Kit Mayquist. Oh btw a novel by Eric LaRocca called Everything the Darkness Eats is going to be released in June and I can't wait to read it!

I recently read Tell Me I'm Worthless, and it's one of the most unique, horrifying, and fantastic things I've read in a while.

I have an addition for queer body horror - Wilder Girls by Rory Power
Oh absolutely! Read that a few months ago and loved it. Adding it to the article lol thanks for the reminder :)

I loved the recommendations! Queer horror books is a subgenre that I love to delve into, particularly indie authors. ♥️
The Eric LaRocca covers are beautiful, I've never seen these versions
Frankenstein is my favourite book too. God, it broke me and put me back together differently.

I love "What Moves The Dead" so much. It's so funny and so creepy. The bunny scenes are so... Uaaaah. 🐇
I need them all!! Thank you!❤
I already heard much about Kingfisher and LaRocca! If you liked the books, I will definitely put them on my tbr list.
Oh and I read our wives under the sea earlier this month and I gave it 5 stars. It was so amazing

Oh I am absolutely checking that out, thank you!
And I've finished "Tell me I'm worthless" last weekend for #transgirlapril
Highly HIGHLY recommend Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova based on this list. For anyone who has ever felt like a little monster child.
Ooh interesting, thanks!
Awesome tattoo!
Thanks! It’s my new fave :)
Eleven?! You have no compassion for our wallets!
Hahaha sorry 😇

Ahhhhh yessssss more LaRocca!!!
Would you recommend some victorian/ gothic/ creepy LGBT books set in the XIX century? Thank you
