Wow! I really don't think I've ever subscribed to a channel this fast. I have just finished Bone White by Ronald Malfi and was looking for new recommendations, and just stumbled upon this video. Nearly all of them have made my TBR thanks to the way you described them, with such eloquence and care. Seriously, I'm impressed, thanks for the awesome video, and please keep it up!
I am so grateful that you loved Our Share of Night as much as I did! It was both deeply disturbing AND beautiful. This book has stayed with me and even given me some very unsettling dreams. I bought it for two of my friends who also love horror. Laura Purcell has been one of my faves for a very long time! I bought her newest in hardcover (The Whispering Muse) but have yet to read it. She hasn't disappointed me yet, so I have high expectations. I have a few others on your list and will try them soon. Thanks for the amazing recs!
Had an awesome day today, despite it being like a million degrees outside! Exercising, playing Pokemon Go with friends, reading Cabin at the End of the World... and now at almost 4am I get to top it off with some great book recs!
This channel is gold. I love hearing you talk. Like I said in another video, this year I'm building up courage to tackle Our Share of Night. Though I'm waiting for the holidays (December in Argentina) cause I know I'll be sleepless. Also, you reminded me that I have My Heart is a Chainsaw on my digital shelves.
It's after 1 a.m. here in California U.S. and I got the shivers listening to this video. But then I realized I've never read any of these so what a treasure trove of new scary books. Boo.
I've only just started to dip my toes into the horror genre. I never thought it would be for me, but I was so wrong! I added a bunch of these to my TBR!
I just discovered your channel after this video showed up in my recommendations. I couldn't be more thrilled! I've read (and loved) most of the books on this list, but there are a few I still need to read. I recently purchased The Silent Companions and plan to get to it before the end of the year. I subscribed and am looking forward to watching more of your content.
Hi! I was searching for some good horror book recs as someone who loves reading but hasn't really jumped into this genre and I have to say all of these sound amazing! I picked up Come Closer today and literally finished it within the same day. Thank you so much for these recommendations, and I'm also really glad I found your channel in the process, I love the way you explain the plots. ❤
if I were to have a favourite genre, it def would be horror. Also love how much you appreciate tl, I have picked up so many good recs thanks to this channel
Thank you! Every other list I tried checking out was your typical Stephen King, Paul Tremblay and the classics. I haven’t heard of most of these and they all sound great!
Great recommendations, thanks! I subbed as soon as you recommended T Kingfisher. I just discovered her and fell in love with her prose and humour. I am chewing through her backlist as fast as I can. Have you read anything she has published under her birth name?
I REALLY enjoyed Our Share of Night. I don't remember reading a book where the sexual fluidity/liberation of the characters seemed so... natural? I don't know how to explain this but those Netflix shows for example have sex scenes with LGBT characters that seem so forced while on this novel I felt confortable with my sexuality while reading this, it was very interesting. I'm adding some of your recommened books to my tbr and I'll probably start reading one of them after picking up The Troop by Nick Cutter, since that one is also very talked about and people seem to really like that one.
I wasn’t sure I liked My Heart is a Chainsaw but I couldn’t stop thinking about it, even after I finished it. So of course I’ve got the sequel on the way 😅
Really enjoyed this video! I finished up ‘The Only Good Indians’ a week or so ago, loved it and went straight onto ‘My Heart is a Chainsaw’ . I found myself completely taken aback by Jade and the leaves of her personality unfolding and being given context. Went onto ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’ a couple of days ago - 100 pages in and it seems Stephen Graham Jones can do no wrong in my eyes. Thanks again for the content looking forward to checking out some of your picks!
Thank you for being you ❤. I am not a regular viewer but have watched a few of your videos and come back now and again. Its clear you how passionate about books you are and its a joy to watch and listen too. I first came across your channel looking for a book review for Sundial or Last House on Needless street I think. My partner is a big Shirley Jackson fan and it was your review which helped me get a very good gift. I came to this video for more gift ideas and well you didn't disappoint. For myself I don't do enough reading, my free time is mainly spent playing video games and I always intend to do more reading have a large book backlog for me recently I have read more books recently but only as eBooks. Earlier this year I bought the Shards and despite it being a return to form in my view for Bret Easton Ellis it took me a long while to read it but then happened to see it on sale an ebook for 99p so picked it up and finished it in a few days. Ive read 1984 again recently as an eBook and also picked up Babel for 99p as an eBook thanks to your review ❤ I do prefer physical books as love the smell and general texture, I have always read at nighttime in bed and I don't like to put the bedside light on and then wake my partner up. I know this is a long message and I haven't been direct with my message as wanted to ask if you ever have affiliate links I can buy books from that can support the channel in someway, I do this with a few gaming channels I follow and would like for your recommendations to result in some financial reward if possible. Looking at picking up two of these books for my partner for Christmas not as Ebooks though 😂
Great recommendations as usual; I read Laura Purcell’s books: the silent companions, the corset and bone china after your suggestion and absolutely loved them, so I trust every suggestion by you 👍🏻👍🏻
I workship your book recommendations!! lol Because of you I discovered Mariana Enriquez and she became my all time favourite author. Keep killin it with these type of videos!
I love T. Kingfisher’s style. Creepy with a sarcastic sense of humour is my catnip. I think that The Hollow Places is my favourite. I would love to see it as a film. This was a very different description of Tell Me I’m Worthless from others I have heard. I think I will have to check it out. Excited for Eric’s first novel!
I'm currently searching through TH-cam for horror recs because I've never been a big horror reader but I'm a huge horror fan. I wasn't really finding anything interesting until this video that somehow recommended ten books I want to read 😂 thank you. Probably gonna start with My Heart is a Chainsaw
Love horror and your list is awesome. Love Grady Hendrix, Graham-Jones, and T. Kingfisher, too. I've ordered The Silent Companion, based on your recommendation, because I love anything Victorian and haunted houses! I will try Our Share of Night eventually, too.
Thanks for the recs! Come Closer is one of my favorite reads of this year. I watched your video before I went to the library today. When I walked in, I went straight to the Adult Fiction section and something told me to just look at the first row. I didn't know what I was looking for when a book caught my eye, then fell into my basket. It was by Ania Alborn. It wasn't Brother, but a different book of hers. I don't believe in coincidences and was excited to see she was the author of one of your suggested books :)
Ahh I love these recommendations!!! I've read and loved some of them like my heart is a chainsaw but still need to get to others!! Also the rabbit is super cute, where did you get it???? 🥰🥰🥰🥰
T. Kingfisher has yet to write a horror book I didn’t love. And this is such a brilliant fusion of Machen’s Wales and her own South. Chuck wrote horror before other genres, and RPGs before other media. If only we had crushed his spirit then… :)
Come Closer was one of my first horror novels I read last year, I really enjoyed it - I probably would like it more on a re-read. My Heart Is a Chainsaw was also one of my favorite horror novels last year, it's also the only work by SGJ that I really love. I related so much with Jade, what a great story and book. How to Sell a Haunted House is probably my favorite horror read so far this year. Some great recs here and happy to read a few more, thanks!
This is gonna add so, so much to my TBR for sure. Also Willow, I was planning on What Moves the Dead next but was wondering if I should read Poe's first to appreciate it more. Could I hop into it without doing so, or would it really refine the experience? (I'm also trying to read more Irish books, this inspires me to look for some some obscure Irish horror 🔥)
You’ll be absolutely fine not reading Poe’s original first. I read it years ago and couldn’t remember the details when I read What Moves The Dead, so you’ll be fine. It’s designed to be a fresh new thing :)
I have been desperate to get into some non-King horror! I’m obsessed with horror movies but the only horror I’ve read is King and, regrettably, House of Leaves, which was absolutely insufferable. It was my first foray into non-King horror and the experiment was such a failure, I haven’t yet tried again. It’s a shame cause it was a great idea, executed in the most pretentious, joyless way possible… I’ve yet to read an “experimental” novel I could actually enjoy… all those damn footnotes and references and flipping around, turning the book every which way. I’m getting mad just writing this. I honestly can’t believe I finished that book. Aaanyway thanks so much for these recommendations!
Grady Hendrix can do no wrong in my world. I LOVED How To Sell a Haunted House - and I don't even consider myself a fan of the horror genre. I find myself laughing out loud pretty often, and I find that just when I decide I can't stand a character and that they're horrible, he makes me question myself and wonder if they really are as bad as I think? His books are always a guaranteed good time for me. lol.
Try her 'A House With Good Bones" next ... I was grinning and hugging myself with glee at her amazing prose and sense of humour. That being said, I still have that little mantra from "The Twisted Ones" running through my head at the oddest times. Creepy.
Hi sweetie, how are you..💕 Do you have some recommendations for fantasy genre? It's new to me but I love Neil Gaiman, American Gods, Neverwhere and The Ocean at the End of the Lane.
I love Grady Hendrix! So far I've read Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, My Best Friend's Exorcism, and Horrorstor - much as I love vampires, Horrorstor has been my favorite. I also have We Sold Our Souls and Final Girl Support Group to read. I love haunted house stories, but think I'll skip How to Sell a Haunted House just hecause I don't care about puppets lol
Tell Me I'm Worthless is one of my all time favorites ( especially as a trans person myself ) and it was the most incredible piece of fiction, along with I Who Have Never Known Men
Great video! Is Grady Hendrix YA? The titles of his books are often 'cute', which is why I haven't read him yet. But based on his popularity and your description, I'm thinking I should read him. (YA almost never works on me, btw.)
If you liked this book by Sar Gann you have to read her Claire De witt mysteries. They are excellent. I love Sara Gann. Im not sure if I have read Come Closer or not , but I am going to check it out
In regard to the rest of these books, of the ones that I've read, I completely agree that they're great and feel very similarly to you about them, but, for some reason that I just cannot fathom, I couldn't even finish My Heart Is A Chainsaw. It wasn't that it wasn't exactly a short book; I read longer books just as often and enjoy them equally. It also wasn't that it isn't my preferred genre, nor was it the writing; I've read and loved other books by Stephen Graham Jones. I absolutely cannot figure it out and it's so confusing to me. From the premise of the book, I was so sure it was going to be a new favourite. This was also due to the fact that the reviews I had read from those I usually have similar tastes to were great. I gave it a good go, reading well over half of the book as I was almost desperate to change my mind about it, but I just didn't care about what was going on and was not enjoying the plot.
Yes!! I love horror!! ❤ modern horror!! I'm all ears. The twisted ones sound intriguing. I absolutely tbr them all ❤ now I have those questions wait!! what!! why!! who!! 😊
I really think Our Share of Night requires at least two readings and some historical study because I know I did not catch all the references to aspects of the horror of the actual dictatorship. I intend to read it again soon and find things I missed the first time.
My Heart is a Chainsaw made me sad. It’s less about being a Slasher and more about referencing Slashers. And the slasher elements don’t happen till the end. And it doesn’t last as long as one would expect. It takes waayyyy too long for the bodies to fall too.
I loved this video! I just found your channel looking for videos about horror novels and I was delighted to see Tell Me I’m Worthless and Manhunt on your list! I’m looking forward to seeing your other videos where this may be covered already, but I really recommend Transmuted by Eve Harms. It’s another trans book by a trans author 🏳️⚧️
How do you know it’s trash if you don’t read it? And how come you just decided to hate us? Are you doing okay? I’m here to chat if you ever need help 💜 (I’m not really; please stay far away from me)
Genre fiction has always been woke, honey. H.G Wells wrote War of the Worlds in 1898, which was an anti-imperialist novel. George Orwell’s 1984 was published in 1949 and was an anti-fascist novel. I just finished rereading Ursula Le Guin’s 1969 novel The Left Hand of Darkness, a novel about patriarchy and gender roles. And if you want to talk about horror specifically, would you like me to discuss the deeply queer history of the genre? Because that history is deep and we’ll be here a long time. Or would you rather admit that you have no idea what you’re talking about, that you have no critical thinking skills, and until this moment you honestly thought that all genre fiction was just simple fun for white men to enjoy?
Do you really think fiction and literature shouldn’t reflect the political climate of its time or the political views of the author…? And yes, most great artists and creatives, including great writers, are progressive. Great art requires open mindedness, curiosity, the ability to observe and interpret the human condition with empathy and without moralizing or pearl clutching, an appreciation for a variety of cultures and their contributions, an eagerness to learn, a willingness to grow and change with the times and with new knowledge… Which political leaning do you associate with those things? lol
Why do you think it’s hatred to call cis women cis? I’ve had this conversation with so many people and they never, ever, ever get it. You’ve got tall women, short women. Black women white women. Blonde women, brunette women. Cis women, trans women. Do you get it? No harm done! No hate intended!
Gay women, straight women. Old women, young women. Extroverted women, introverted women. I could go on and on. Cis women, trans women. It’s the same thing. Please tell me you get it. I’m so sick of trying to teach the brick wall 😭
@@WillowTalksBooks It's just women. We're women, nothing else. Not cis. It's derogatory. As women we face so much in this world why make as feel even less. As trans you should understand
@@WillowTalksBooks I was born female I do not need to be called cis anything. I am what I am and do not need any fancy title to make me feel worthless. Cis is offensive
So you didn’t take in anything I just said? Okay, let’s chalk this up to what it is: transphobia. Why is it transphobia? Because if you can have straight/gay women, black/white women, tall/short women etc, but you insist on saying “women” and “trans women” you are putting us outside the box of womanhood. You are denying us our womanhood. You are women; we are trans women. That is exclusionary transphobia.
As an absolute chicken of a girl, who got spooked out by freaking Grays in the Ninth house, I don’t even know what am I doing here😅
Hi Julia how are you sweetheart? Are you single?

Every so often, the algorithm really does me a solid. You have excellent taste, and I'm really glad to have found this channel.
I really liked "The twisted ones" so when Kingfisher explined it was inspired with an old classique of course I had to read it.
I just discovered your channel and I love the way you describe books. You made me want to buy them all!
I'm so excited for whenever you read We Sold Our Souls and Horrorstor, which are my favorite Grady Hendrix novels at the moment :)
Horror is becoming my favorite genre for Novels/Graphic Novels and Video-Games/Visual Novels. Awesome video as always.
I just discovered your channel after this video showed up in my recommendations. I couldn't be more thrilled! Yay, glad to hear it 😌
I just came across your channel today, and I have already picked several of your suggestions. Great reviews! Thank you!
Just discovered your channel! Very insightful book reviews, and I’ve noted a few of these that I’m going to check out! Thank you 😊
Excellent list! I have missed a few of these and you sold me on them. Please keep it up. New fan here.
I JUST found your channel and I'm so glad i did, absolutely love you already! I added all of these to my TBR list 🖤
So of course I’ve got the sequel on the way 😅
oh, i loved the Silent Companions!! Will def pick up more of her books with your rec.
After you described Come Closer I immediately went to read it and and I love it❤️ you have good taste

I read "Come Closer" 4 years ago when I was terribly sick. Loved it.
I just found your channel. You are so passionate and descriptive that I want to read all of them.
I loved What Moves The Dead so I will definitely check out The Twisted Ones. This video is basically a great TBR LOL Thanks!
Thank u so much!! I will be checking out your list for this october’s tbr! Im also a booktuber btw and i love your content ❤
I’m in my horror girl era, so this video was made for me. 🎉
What a great list for this summer! Thank you. 💕
Thank you for motivating me to read Laura Purcell her books have been on my shelves forever❤❤❤
Great recommendations as usual; I read Laura Purcell’s books: the silent companions, the corset and bone china after your suggestion and absolutely loved them, so I trust every suggestion by you 👍🏻👍🏻

Excited for Eric’s first novel!
I need to know what other people have said about TMIW lol
You have a very deep voice!
Weird, innit!

Currently reading our share of night! Loving it.
Ahh I love these recommendations!!! I've read and loved some of them like my heart is a chainsaw but still need to get to others!! Also the rabbit is super cute, where did you get it???? 🥰🥰🥰🥰
My plushie is from a brand called Plushie Dreadfuls, and they’re all designed by American McGee 😊
this list seems so solid, I thank you very much
Just discovered your chanel and loving it. Great recommendations! New subscriber. Best wishes from Merida México
Loved My Heart is a Chainsaw and the Twisted Ones. I will definitely check out your other recommendations.
I've been looking to read more horror, so thank you for this list!

Oh I’ve read Come Closer just recently! Here biding my time til I finish this nonfiction book I’m taking notes on
Just found your channel. Great stuff, keep up the good work.

Yeeeessss Tell Me I’m Worthless is so damn good! Haven’t seen anyone else mentioning this one. ❤
Didn't know any of these books, I don't even know where to start ! 😅 Thanks very much ! 🐊
Mariana Enriquez is a 10/10 ❤❤❤❤❤

just stumbled on your page, very engaging, subscribed
Come closer looks/sounds amazing. Def gonna try it now
Very late to this video but oh my god these sound so good! Thank you!
Come Closer pops up in my head every now and then and if I'm still thinking about it at bedtime, I am totally screwed.
Grady Hendrix can do no wrong in my world. I LOVED How To Sell a Haunted House - and I don't even consider myself a fan of the horror genre. The silent companions sounds great for me. I'll try to get it. 🤗🤗
Is that a ghost in your necklace? If so, that's adorable! Cute necklace either way, but I am hoping it is an adorable little ghost. LOL
Yup! And it glows in the dark :)
Thank you for “The twisted ones” recommendation. I love it so far (about halfway through). It’s surprisingly hilarious
Try her 'A House With Good Bones" next ... I was grinning and hugging myself with glee at her amazing prose and sense of humour. That being said, I still have that little mantra from "The Twisted Ones" running through my head at the oddest times. Creepy.
as a horror fan who respectfully can't stand stephen king's writing a wave of relief washed over me withing 30 seconds of starting the video
Nice my local library just got remodeled and they jave a handful of these books there I'm gonna check them out!

Hi, do you have a vlog regards on your ultimate fav. horror books?
Don’t think so, but I have this big article :)
booksandbao.com/best-horror-novels-ever-classic-contemporary/
@@WillowTalksBooks thank you so much, will def. check them :)
I ❤ horror so much
I loved this video! I just found your channel looking for videos about horror novels and I was delighted to see Tell Me I’m Worthless and Manhunt on your list!
I’m looking forward to seeing your other videos where this may be covered already, but I really recommend Transmuted by Eve Harms. It’s another trans book by a trans author 🏳️⚧️
love to see so many queer horror recommendations! looking forward to read every single one of these ☺
You should read Naomi’s Room
You should phrase your comments more politely :)
Why does every comment star with "i just discovered your channel..." are they bots?
I can’t know that any more than you can. Could be that the video is popular. Everyone has to start somewhere
Have you read “Twenty Days of Turin”?
Nope
House of Leaves?
Haven’t read it, and the fact that it’s fanbase is all slavering cishet men puts me off
I swear the best horror comes from women
Do you know chinese?
Some
You lost me at trans books. Pfff. No thanks to brain killing trash literature.
How do you know it’s trash if you don’t read it? And how come you just decided to hate us? Are you doing okay? I’m here to chat if you ever need help 💜 (I’m not really; please stay far away from me)
some of them are very woke books, why preaching political messages in genre fiction
Great art requires open mindedness, curiosity, the ability to observe and interpret the human condition with empathy and without moralizing or pearl clutching, an appreciation for a variety of cultures and their contributions, an eagerness to learn, a willingness to grow and change with the times and with new knowledge… Which political leaning do you associate with those things? lol
So much ciswomen hatred 😢 'as you describe us, enjoy books not hatred
