    Mark you are without doubt one of best all round fish youtubers out there! There is so many channels out there where the people are so full of themselves, money and merch mad. It's so refreshing to listen to someone who's in it for the fish and not the fame. If your not subscribed to Mark do it you won't be disappointed. X

      100% agree this brilliant channel is all about the fish.
      I think some people have a subject channel and use it as a means to get their egos across on TH-cam.

    In all the years I had the shop the Rummynose were among my top 10 favorite fish and when water is good the colors really bounce on them - they're a good water indicator, like clown loach and look incredible against a heavily planted or black background.

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your right there! They really do pop in a heavily planted aquarium. Just to change the subject, I'm after a good small torch Any suggestions ?

      @@MARKSAQUATICS There are a nation of really good lights available now as well as a sea of cheap crap which promises high output but falls short. Best is probably the lights from Thrunite but they do cost for that quality. Going for one with a 18650 battery will ensure that the output and life of battery is long. The Wowtac BSS V3 is made by Thrunite and is almost identical to their TN12 but it comes with a bezel for self defence and a red filter if you're using it in areas of high foliage (woods etc.) - light reflects less from woods when it is red.
      I did a review on that one a while back and although there are a load of similar lights in that price bracket its good value. Atactical lights are also made by Thrunite and are cheaper.
      Many have a charging port on the body of the light to prevent the need for a separate charger as it is a micro USB fitting and some of the newer lights come with batteries which have charging port on them (e.g. Wowtac BSS v3).
      If you go for one between 900 lumens to 1100 lumens that will be any amount bright enough but if you're after maximum distance from minimal size light then the Thrunite Catapult V6 is amazing - I reviewed that one on the channel too - will be in 'outdoor product reviews' playlist.

  • @TitelSinistrel
    @TitelSinistrel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question, for the neons you used peat and RO to lower PH, here you used leaves. Those look like regular maple leaves you can find in the forests all over europe. The question is, would something like this work for neons? RO systems are not always an option for most hobbyists. How low did you get the PH and would catapa leaves, like you find for shrimps, also work?
    Another great video BTW.

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The leaves I used are turkey oak.
      You can also use catappa leaves , organic compost like in this video.
      rain water is awesome if you have no RO or distilled water.

    @jlathem56 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So to highlight the process... 1. Condition the females & males by feeding live foods (in this case you used black worms & Daphnia). 2. Move the fish to the breeding environment (with normal parameter water, Pete ball, spawning mop, sponge filter, and very low light). 3. Slowly (over 3 to 5 hours) bring the pH down (to about 6.5). 4. Check for spawning every couple of hours. 5. After the spawning happens move the fish back to their regular tank. 6. Allow the eggs to hatch in the breeding tank. 7. Once the fry's egg sack is consumed start feeding Infusoria until fry is large enough to take BBS or other live foods.
    Is that right? Did I miss anything?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I set the breeding tank up three or four days before adding the fish, This allows the leaves and compost ball to lower the ph. Apart from that your spot on.👍😀

    Thanks Mark! I just ordered a wholesale lot of rummy nose. Thinking I'll seperate them amongst a few different tanks and when spring time rolls around I'll set a little tank up outside for a few weeks and get a good culture of live foods going for the spawning and the fry. I could age some peat water to lower the Ph as well. I've never spawned egg scatterer fish before and I'm very excited to try like you've shown. Thanks for making it seem so simple and less intimidating. If you're interested you might want to see my Amano shrimp breeding project I have going in now. They are a bit tricky because they require salt water at different stages but I might have figured it out.
