Jinnah personality was one of the most rare personalities in the history of india. He was intelliegent, charismatic and yet so empty of emotions. Nehru and Gandhi were quite overwhelmed with emotions and they were common man leaders.

Nehru was a great admirer of CHANAKYA KAUTILYA, cunning and clever never to be trusted but comparatively, Jinnah was a frank, truthful, honest, and foresighted leader!
Nehru, Patel, Gandhi had assured Sikhs before 1947 not to join Jinnah and they will be given autonomy in Indian Punjab and all leaders Tara Singh( real name Nank Chand Malhotra ) , Baldev Singh, Raja of Patiala Yadvinder Singh were with the Congress since the 1930s onwards and never with Jinnah!
Sikha were the worst losers of partition in 1947. But were given the best deal by the GOI in the years to come. Read Agony of Bengal and you shall learn the Punjabi gains were at the cost of Bengals losses. Nobody can deny the hard work of Sikhs which made them so prosperous but GOI's contribution on somewhat unjust terms also cannot be overlooked.
As for Jinnah his stupidities, illogic, half baked cunning and repeated u turns were only matched with his totally off the mark understanding of the ground realities. If you want me to qualify each of my prepositions I shall do it. But I think if you read carefully any standard history text book or even an honest journalistic account like that of Durga Das's 'India Curzon to Nehru and after' you shall emerge with more unsympathetic version of Jinnah.

March 47 Punjab riots were preceded by Calcuta both sides had a free hand, Noakhali innocent unarmed Hindus were killed, Bihar innocent unarmed Muslims were killed. Jinnah did not show an iota of regret, rather was annoyed with Suhrawardy for his efforts to stop the riots after realising that unlike his belief Hindus could retaliate.
