been here 2.5 years now and I was not prepared for the TRAFFIC. All inner city streets are clogged with traffic. Heaven forbid if you want to turn left. But the people are very nice. We came from Sacramento CA and we're not used to the nightly/daily shootings and crime in Houston. My car has been broken into in my community. So always keep your car locked and noTHING in it worth value. Even in your driveway. Unless you have money, look for older homes in older communities. The homes are nice and the HOA fees are small. Most communities have HOA, so good luck finding a home with no HOA. BUT, you don't have to pay hundreds per month, if you shop. What you do not want is an over zealous HOA. So go through communities day and night and see what fits your lifestyle. I'll forgive some excess cars in the yard and some unkempt homes to pay lower HOAs. Remember all those amenities you see advertised you pay for in HOA fees. I just did a HAR search in my zip code in Katy for a one story home under $350000 and there were only 2/TWO that had no HOA fees. So good luck finding a non-HOA home. There's also a community pool in most, but you need to find out if that pool is open with no lifeguard. I"ve seen community pools not used due to no lifeguard availble. Katy is not a walking or biking area, so if you are hoping to communte via walk,bus or bike this is not the place. One tip for newbies, buy a toll pass for your car. At first you don'twant to worry about toll roads and such. ONce you get the lay of the land and don't want to pay tolls youdrive to avoid that. Oh and by the way, that Trader JOes is the ONLY one for miles and miles. If you are being really diligent check the flood maps before you buy.

Property tax in Texas is ridiculous. I live in Florida. We also don't have state income tax but Texas property tax is 3x more.

I live in Firethorne and the neighborhood is awful… If you must live in this area move to Cross Creek Ranch in Fulshear. Fulshear is the second safest city in Texas; whereas, Katy is unsafe and has way more crime. If you can move north I’d suggest the Woodlands.

There is not public transportation?? In Houston! Why ?

There is bus line in HOUSTON city.. Katy is another city.. There is no bus line because is above income status so bus line is not need. Usually if no bus line it tend to be lower crime rate

Just as much of Black people as any other race in Katy. Pretty equal. Its not 1 race dominated from what I've seen when I used to live there.
