nobody else is tall like that, but all the men in the family are tall. His father at just shy of 6 feet was one of the few short ones. Robert Wadlow is my 4th cousin.
amazing focus, on minute details!!! Check out the atmosphere and the hints under the surface that take you away from here and now, to feel the sense of the thing and maybe connect at a deeper level to what it is to be human, irrespective of height or where the blister was that caused the pain. We all got our own blisters........................
there are stories of American pre historic giants, skeletons that were found in the 19th century and the smithsonian went around the country collecting them all up and storing them away, kind of indiana jones lost ark kind of thing.
My only point is this. It's art. The band didn't put this footage on TH-cam against their song. Someone else did. And regarding truth... "they lay up on a hillside made of chocolate and lemonade"... Not truth, art. Great song. And I'm sure Mr Wadlow was an extraordinary person.
Such a good song from such an unbelievably good band.
Thank you, Andrew Bird, for showing me these beautiful lyrics.
This is amazing.
From collinsville?
I'm in Ireland, and iremember reading about this man a long time ago....😔💓💚🍀
Amazing song. Some of rennies’ best lyrics. Jeff tweedy on backing vocals
Amazing song.
that song was nice but sad that poor guy he looked like a nice guy
Very nice
No worries. Great blog as well.
historically accurate or not...the pain and beauty trancends
RIP Robert
The sky was a womans arms is the most beautiful lyric one i quote n never fail to get a response

I love this song :)
he stood 8ft 11 inches in socks at his death and 9ft in shoes rip
robert wadlow died july 1940.
but the blister was on his ankle...
and it was summer in Manistee Michigan...

Wonderful! Beautiful tune as well!
But their gift for wry lyrics is present as ever...
"And the sky was a woman's arms"
The gentle giant :(
yes he did but so did many modern day giants but wadlow could not stop growing and e did not die because of his height.
@GAKRAC I don't believe anyone else in his family was unusually tall. Could be mistaken, though.

I can’t imagine the only way he was ever comfortable was lying down
They should also sing a song on the Joseph Merrick...
Anyways, very good song.
do you know "pendulous skin" by mastodon?
I wonder how big his ( stop it )
Feet where... Absolutely enormous I'm sure
It's speculated Goliath had rhe same condition .
Not true, he was from Alton, Illinois. I know I'm from there.
MMMm, it's just a song! I suppose you could take it up with the Handsome Family although I doubt if they will re-record it for historical accuracy!
he had a disease called Gigantisism
there are stories of American pre historic giants, skeletons that were found in the 19th century and the smithsonian went around the country collecting them all up and storing them away, kind of indiana jones lost ark kind of thing.
Song or no song, the fact remains the blister was still on his ankle. Shame a person can't point out the truth without being berated.
@atabs13 8 foot 11.1 inches
All the honor to The Handsome Family, but Andrew Bird's cover makes from this glorious song even bigger masterpiece.
Ankle doesn't rhyme with snow. See?
old but is still a good song. but robert died from the blister on his ankle not on his toe. so this is a song mistake?
sad
I Agree
real short life
Sadly the taller the man the shorter the life
Well then they ought to have found a better word rather than mess with the truth.
I bet he never was fat
from getting 10kg he got 10cm
he was 200kg..
My sympathies to you that you receive negative votes for pointing out the truth. I'm sure Mr Wadlow would have pointed this error out too.

"lay out on the green lawn full of chocolate and lemonade"
Good but I do prefer Andrew Bird's cover. Feels so much deeper.
