Unitopia will have a powerful rhythm section. Alphonso Johnson and CT will get together for at least the third time with Weather Report and Frank Zappy being their other two bands.
This Video has made my year! Seeing Chester Thompson debuting a new song in a new band he just joined is fucking incredible. I have seen Chester play live many times over the years, and those shows always had some of the most fantastic drumming in the world. I saw Genesis last November in Chicago without Chester for the first time, and it was a sad day for drumming because Phil can no longer play at all, and his son Nicholas Collins is just a kid who wanted to play with Genesis. But who could never fill either of those drummers shoes, anymore than most pros out there never quite measured up in comparison to Chester and Phil. So its a glorious day to be a drummer who loves Chester Thompson since the late 70s, and here that he is going to tour with a Prog Rock band similar to Genesis again. Thanks so much for the video release
Always loved Chester Thompson. Massive influence on my playing. Biggest dis of the century? Genesis not inviting Chester to play on their farewell tour. Anyway, their loss cos Chester's the boss! ✌🏼 🥁 🎶 💛
@@Zerpersande Yes, Nic is an amazing drummer, just like his dad was, but Phil should of put his ego aside and buried the hatchet with Chester. Chester playing alongside Nic, Phil's son would of been fantastic and a sight to behold! Chester put in all those years with Genesis, as early as 1976, and then played with Phil on his solo tours. Would it of really been too much to ask to have Chester playing on the final Genesis tour? Personally, I think not, but that's just my take on it. Chester is a sensitive guy, so it must of hurt his feelings after all those years he spent playing and socializing with Phil, Mike, Tony and Daryl. I've been listening to Genesis since the early 70s'. Always loved them, and Phil is one of my favourite drummers of all time. In my personal opinion, the best of all the prog drummers from the UK in the 70s.' Also, a massive influence on myself as a drummer of 45 years and still going. Anyway, you're entitled to your opinion, but for me, it was wrong of all of the guys not to have Chester on the final tour. No matter what 'falafel' Phil had with Chester in the past, it should of been sorted out. I love Phil, but that was wrong of him, and it's something that goes to show the level of ego with some of these guys. Anyway, regardless of all that. God bless ya Phil and long live on the memories and music of Genesis ; 1967 - 2022.
@@mattychapati I can see both points of view. It would have been wonderful to have Chester drumming, but the reason Genesis worked so well with two drummers is that they didn't both play at the same time all the time. Phil only played certain bits, and mostly when he is playing Chester is doing something else. There are only a few bits where they both play the full kit. So with Nic it would have been difficult to work out how to do it without it just becoming a double-drum bash, which I don't think would have worked. So I just say good luck, good health and long life to them both. On the basis of this little clip Chester is still doing great stuff.
@inglepropnoosegarm. I've been a huge Genesis fan since the Peter Gabriel era and I know how the band worked with Chester and Phil together. Anyway. After the years that Chester dedicated to Genesis and Phil Collins solo they could of at least had Chester guesting on some of the songs. Sorry, but it was all about Phil promoting his son Nic and not putting his ego aside as regards his falling out with Chester. I love Phil Collins. Being a drummer myself in bands for 45 year's, Phil, has always been, and will be my number 1. It's wrong what Genesis did to Chester, especially on their last foray. Loyalty doesn't count for much these days.
I attended a drum clinic in Dallas in 1980 with chester Thompson. A great drummer and a great human being.
I will tell you after spending weeks with him on unitopia tour, he is nicer than you can imagine
Grande Chester
Chester Thompson and Phil Collins were two of my biggest influences in drumming. So awesome to see him still being the powerhouse he's always been.

A legend enters the room.

Although I get your point I think getting Phil’s son on drums, on his father’s farewell tour, is cool. Phil’s almost gone, give him a break.
