  • I've made thousands of QSO's with this portable antenna installed on the roof of my Radio Van while on Flora Fauna activation trips or field days. This video is on a field test of the 40-6m base-loaded vertical antenna. The vertical antenna is comprised of a MFJ 5 meter-long telescopic whip and the coil by the same manufacturer. The antenna is equipped with only one elevated radial, so it rather could be cold a dipole than a vertical, or an L-type antenna. Elevated radials are very effective and they are resonant. The vertical shoulder and the elevated one sloping-horizontal provides for both low-angle DX contacts and European/local regional ones.
I use the Quick Mount for the vertical and this small add-on is the most useful thing I ever had in my shack! It frees you up from turning and turning the coil-whip assembly shaking in the wind until it's in place on the connector. Please check this link if consider buying (my affilliate Amazon link which I might earn from in case of you purchase through this link at no extra cost for you): amzn.to/3HcNYzN
During the parks activation events I mostly call CQ so I only make QSO if I am heard well by the correspondents. I'm regularly called by the US and Canadian stations, the Reverse Beacon Network's reports also proves the DX stations hear me well , even on 40 and 30m bands where this antenna not supposed to be very effective by the common attitude. But it is! As many other antennas too! I am planning to make videos also on my other field tests with other antennas like EFHW, W3DZZ, and my favorite the "Seitenschneider Antenna"! Check this channel if you want to know what it is, or even better , consider subscribing! 73! de Linas LY2H

Nice antenna set up👍, have you tried or experimented with short, telescopic aluminium tubing elevated radials, in an open field? no radio van involved? , 73's 👍 2E0JBH.

juan bet , no I haven't. When operating without radio van I usualy use various kinds of longer wire antennas. I have been using though my Budistick antenna in the field on the tripod with one elevated radial. It was ok but my 5m whip on the van is better. If I got it correctly you are going to experiment with elevated radials made of alu tubing? Interesting! Let us know how was that! 73! Linas LY2H

Thank you for making these videos and sharing them with all of us!
Where can I get that same coil that you're using with the MFJ whip? Thank you very much, I am of course subscribed with notifications turned on and thumbs up! 73 W3GUY

Thank You for watching! The coil is MFJ-67, I bought it from Wimo.de in Germany because I'm in the EU and its faster/easier for me. I believe, any seller selling MFJ products would have it. 73! Linas LY2H

Hello, thanks for watching! To build this antenna I only needed to buy the 5m whip from MFJ ( MFJ1979) and the 40m loading coil from the same manufacturer. And the quick mount connector. Could be equally easy mounted on the bigger magnetic pad or by any other means available. So it's all ready made, nothing to make or wind yourself. Good luck! CU on the air! 73! Linas LY2H
