    I just bought the 48 set of Goldfabers after comparing them to the Prismacolor Premiers at a craft store. I was so impressed with the smooth texture and the rich saturation. I was very set on buying the 150 set of Prismacolors, but I think instead I'll focus my energy on begging Faber Castell to offer more colors in the Goldfabers.😆
    I have a 24 set of Polychromos, as well...it's safe to say I've become a Faber Castell fangirl.

      I’ve been at hobby lobby (USA) yesterday and they sell separate pencils and that’s the best way to test it. I got Prismacolor green pencil and faber castell brown pencil and I think fabers are a lot better (made in Germany). But I think everybody has different preferences though... I just got castle arts (120 colors) and I wasn’t fond of them and I have to retunn them and I just oredered faber castell s instead

Thanks especially for your comments about the white being good for burnishing; I'll have to give that a try. Like you I wish they had names as easier to track than numbers.

    I agree about the lack of neutrals. I also wish they had included an ivory pencil alongside the white, instead of mixing white and one of the light pencils. The lone pair of warm grey and cool grey are just mid-tone, and I'd have loved to have darker versions of each instead of the silver and gold. Adding black to neutral areas to darken them just loses some of the nuance. I do really love how the pencils work, though. So nice.

    I keep seeing these at Hobby Lobby and the price is really nice. I mainly use Prismacolor, but if these are made with higher quality standards than the Prismas, I might have to try them out. But the limited color range might rule out using them for portraits.

    Fab review and test-drive. I have these and they make a great soft-cored companion set to Polychromos. They're great for quick coverage for backgrounds etc. They also don't have that horrible strong wax crayon smell like Prismacolors. I wish they weren't so skinny though - I find them difficult to grip so I have to use grip-aids with them.

Como yo pinto mandalas, no he ido a dibujar, por que sinceramente, no me atrae, al menos por ahora, solo quiero llenar de colores, los mandalas de flores, y los demás libros que hay para adultos. I bought 11 of these pencils today and I wasn't happy about them not having the color names on the pencil. I had to go online and find a chart to match the numbers with the color names. How hard would it be to put the names on the pencil?? I think I will write to them and tell them to put the names on their pencils lol. Other than that, I like the pencils very much. I'm not experienced with colored pencils and I only have cheap sets but these perform just about the same as my other ones. These are smaller than most pencils though and they are so lightweight even when I pick all 11 of them up at the same time lol. 😂 I'll probably buy some of them so I can have more colors.

      The gold faber is pretty vibrant and the Polychromos colours are beyond vibrant like Guache paint on the page which is spectacular for extreme Highlightes and are Oil based so they will be a little harder to blend unlike the Goldfaber which is Wax based so it is extremly easy to blend the colours

    I truly think FC would have made a more profitable decision if they had increased the range of the Goldfaber instead of adding that Black Edition. I’m not liking the triangular shape of them and so now I’m on the hunt for the Black Edition with the round barrel.
    Why make such a decision? They already had the wax based pencils, just give us more of the same!

    48 is a reasonable set for pencils for anyone, if you can't blend the colour you want then one should find how, if you want to spoil yourself go for 72! Faber-Castell might be known as an oil based pencil but they also have wax in them.

    • @Tasha9315
      @Tasha9315 ปีที่แล้ว

      48 is reasonable if the manufacturer chose the right 48 colors. The problem is that they often don't. Goldfaber unfortunately only goes up to 48.

  • @wolfgangtrubshaw5549
    @wolfgangtrubshaw5549 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    In truth, they are a *72-colors* set. Faber Castell decided to please "both" sides of their market, the uppity and wannabes buying the "nasal" Faber-Castell-branded products, and their "budget brand" Eberhard Faber.
    The 24 pencils/colors "missing" from this 48-Goldfaber set are found in the "Artist Color" sets from their brand "Eberhard Faber".
    If you buy the "full" 48-tin of these here "Goldfabers" (branded Faber Castell) and also buy the full 48-tin "Artist Color" (branded Eberhard Faber), you actually get 68 different colors. On 28 they actually overlap, meaning those 28 colors are found in *both* sets. However, on each side's set are 20 "exclusive" colors. In total that makes 68.
    The remaining 4 colors "missing" to complete the 72-colors-range are found in the generic Drawing/Sketching sets of the Eberhard Faber branding.
    The colors you "miss" when only buying these here 48 Goldfabers, meaning the colors found only under the Eberhard Faber Artist Color branding are: 111, 117, 129, 135, 141, 142, 145, 152, 155, 159, 160, 184, 185, 190, 217, 219, 232, 234, 246, 280 in the 48-set of "Artist Color". Plus an extra 4 in the Eberhard Faber Drawing sets.
    Warning, though - while the leads between these two ranges are *absolutely identical* … the "make quality" of the Eberhard Faber was deliberately "dumbed down" for the proles. There are no names or color-numbers even (!!!) on the Artist Color pencils. Also: Unlike the round barrels of the "Goldfabers", the barrels on the "Artist Color" are hexagonal; their ends are dipped. Also: The Artist Color pencils from their Eberhard Faber side of the company can *not* be bought open stock.
    Generally, these are Faber Castell's artificially created "mid-level" - these pencils are pretty decent if it wasn't for *horrendous* de-saturation (there's plenty enough of pigment, but it's really washed out on the saturation). Use them along with any other pencils of "mid-level" quality, and you'll see what I mean.

    • @ruthg.2294
      @ruthg.2294 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is very interesting, thank you! Could you please explain what you mean by de-saturation?

    I suppose faber castell make an average to say "excelent lighfastnes", but I don't believe that purples and pinks are lightfast enough for artistic purposes like in polycromos, maybe goldfaber pencils are the same pigments of the polycromos.

    STUDENT PENCILS! The fewer pencils the better art you a forced to make! You have to learn to compensate for the colours that are not there. These are student pencils, the first quality pencil by FC to reach that market. 48 is the number of pencils experts suggest as the minimum a student needs to learn and succeed as a beginner. Students do not need lightfast pencils, actually people into colouring books don't need lightfast pencils, professional artist do. Prismacolor does not have the greatest lightfast rating, people should look and in all probability will be surprised by the ratings. If it was between these and Prismacolor I would choose Goldfabre or Black Widow. No pencil set is perfect, plus one has to think of the cost!

    I don´t see why you would choose these over the polycromos.

      Some people don’t like to work with polychromos as they find them hard to blend. Others prefer the soft creamy texture of a wax-based pencil :)
