  • On board with driver Carlos Carneiro (Brazil), driving the Team Spencers TV & Appliance / Vintage Kart Company cyclekart in the inaugural Grand Prix of Scottsdale. The Grand Prix is run in 1920s style mini Grand Prix cars/karts (cyclekarts), on a temporary 1 mile long street circuit in Downtown "Old Town" Scottsdale, Arizona. The Grand Prix format was 1 race which was split into four 20 minute heats, with a 10 minute break in between each one. This was the first heat, which was the fastest and will probably be the fastest GPX race ever at the Scottsdale Waterfront street circuit. All cars were running unrestricted, with a top speed of 45 mph, but at the end of this heat there was a heavy crash and organizers were instructed by city and police officials to reduce the cars' speed significantly for the next 3 heats.

    Brother you can drive!!! Wow! The way you keep your momentum up and push so hard thrue the corners is too much fun to watch! Thanks for posting this video! I just discovered cyclekart racing yesterday and I'm already hooked. Too cool and brings us back to the roots of motor racing. Going to start building mine as soon as the snow melts so I can get to my steel pile and parts shed. Respect from Canada

    That was awesome footage! I was concerned that cycle carts would be a little bit too slow, but of course this footage reminds me that 45 mph is extremely fast. I've heard that some can get up to that speed. But with those little tires up front, bumping into the wall coming out of a corner, I could see kart rolling over. Given how much of your torso is sticking out, that could suck big time!!

    Fantastic driving, especially given the open wheel dangers. The drivers POV definitely appears faster than a spectators POV. Thanks for the video and taking us for the ride.
    I heard there was a bad crash, so I really hope that everyone walked away without injury. That would make for a bad stain on future events.

    It's a reminder that it's still "open wheel racing" and hitting the wall or bumping another's tires, worse, getting tangled could be very dicey!!

    Still not understand. Why not call it motor kart? Or just gokart?
    I thought you suppose to paddle cycle it. Hence, cycle kart.

    • @kartclub2
      @kartclub2  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The cycleKart is a specific kind of "early 20th century" looking (but contemporary) kart, built using motorcycle wheels, and a combo of go-kart parts, motorcycle parts, and parts from whatever works to get to the desired "oldies" look.
      Motorcycle+kart, hence, cyclekart.
      To some, ...psycokart. 👍👍

    The track is too small. Difficult to overtake and not perfect for safety.

  • @racie35
    @racie35 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Considering how lousy that front end was working ...it must have a ton more power then the others to pass like that anywhere on the track..doesn't look too fair

      This is a spec race, the difference is not mechanical. All karts have the same chassis, the same engine and are all equally prepped for this race by the manufacturer, Vintage Kart Co. This was the first segment (of 4) at the 1st Scottsdale Grand Prix (2015). The karts were running fully open, top speed 40+mph. As you well noticed, the front end of the kart was very nervous and hard to control. The VKC karts were all like that back then. I was one of a handful of drivers in this race with enough racing experience to be comfortable taking the kart to the level of speed in the video. There were 27 karts in this 1st race, and about 100 drivers sharing the karts. The vast majority had no racing experience at all, and their comfort zone was way below the kart's performance capability. But fast does not always win the race. On the 3rd segment I made a mistake, clipped the inside of a corner, bent a tie-rod and lost 6 laps in the pits getting it fixed. That dropped me from the lead to 20th at the end, beat by just about everybody else!!! LOL

      @racie35 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      kartclub2 ...you keep telling yourself they were all the same....it's obvious they weren't. I think you've forgotten what cyclekarts are supposed to be about.

    • @kartclub2
      @kartclub2  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry you feel that way, but go ahead and make your own truth. It is your absolute right to believe whatever you want, including whatever you think cyclekarts are all about.
