80 homes! This is easy! We had a similar problem much farther south and we also had a bridge that crosses the creek that got burned in a wild fire. The county was horrible and we even had to involve the urban creeks Council and all kinds of other nonsense. Many homeowners had a secret meeting and we secretly pitched in money. In the middle of the night a brigade of trucks and heavy equipment showed up with a pre-fabricated bridge and a few dump trucks of road base. By morning there was a new bridge made of pure steel And enough base on the road to make it perfectly drivable. The county had an absolute fit! Everybody play dumbed and we said we have no idea who did it but they are more than welcome to come in and fix it when they have time. F them! If you're going to live up there you have to be resourceful.

For those waiting for fire season to begin to see what will happen: If you are not planning to get out now and stay out until the road is repaired, then you are assuring your death in the event a fire does break out in the area.

If you live out in the woods with all this natural beauty, fires & floods happen. I don't quite understand people who live in the mountains or near rivers, lakes & sea being upset that nature happens.🙄

Oh quit! Stay on your couch scaredy-cat. Always thinking worst-case scenario is an awful way to live. What a bore.

Great idea but they cannot move. Whatever is up there stays and nothing can go up. All the furniture, everything stays since no in/out

They say the property is Los Gatos, Santa Clara County.
Then goes onto say they are working with Santa Cruz County for the funding and work.
A lot can happened between now and repairs in a few years. A couple more winters

It’s near the county line. A possibility is that the land is in one county, but the postal zip code (address) in another county.

People in the US drive on the right side of the road, people in Santa Cruz Mountains drive on what’s left of the road.
This is unincorporated part of Santa Cruz county and elected representatives in Santa Cruz county doesn’t care about and ignore this area.

Oh dear ! There goes yet more forest topsoil essential to retaining water for aquifers, springs, streams and ponds. Without these, there will be no browsers and grazers to keep combustibles under control. It is that lack of surface water for drinking that relates directly to wildlife migration into our residential areas.
It is horribly homocentric and shortsighted to only view "drought" in lake and reservoir terms. Depth of soil is an essential component in the water, wildlife and wildfire management cycles.

It looks pretty bad. For the Hwy 84 Woodside slide last year it took 4 months to get one lane open, the work is still going on. If the ground is still moving I think very little actual work can be done.

Didn't they choose to live in the mountains and wilderness. Don't like nature don't live close to nature.
