Marcello Clerici, a spy for the fascist political police, goes to Paris on his honeymoon. The honeymoon is a cover and, unbeknownst to his wife Giulia, the man must eliminate one of his former professors, now a political dissident.

Bertolucci was an atheist. He was also an artist. His talent in film is obvious to me in this film. The title is very confusing. Marcelo was externally conforming with the fascist his blind friend turned out to be. Then he meets the other fascist he thought he had killed, and also conforms externally with the anti-fascist side of himself. He doesn't know himself. An atheist also is deluding themself, by saying there is no God, (they must admit & accept that there is an identity they say does not exist). How can one say there are no cherries, or cherries don't exist! There is a thing related to the idea or the word cherry. In one sense there are only believers. In one sense the world is really all evil, and in the other sense the world is all good. What an I saying? This world is just full of dualities, just as there are two sides of a coin. But there is still only one coin. The film was well made.

OMG. J.H.C. - Americans/English are so bad with dubbing. Of course, they almost never need it. It's certainly not an art developed by them. Anyways, great movie.
