You have a good throwing arm. I'd like to see if there are polypropylene throwing sticks on the market. These items can be used to enhance throwing skills for baseball etc.
All the throw sticks I've seen before are basically straight flying boomerangs, and have a much greater effective range (up to about 70 metres, but can fly as far as 120). Were these earlier throwing sticks?
Thanks for watching! Yes, the throwing stick design was optimized by several primitive cultures into a kind of airfoil shape (e.g kylie, boomerang, rabbit sticks). These optimized versions could fly for a long range. The one I made was an improvised survival weapon.
Nice video. I like your enthusiasm and intuition that the throwstick is an effective go to hunting tool. It is really great to pick up and use instinctively. Even as a kid I used to throw sticks every time I went to the forest. I loved to watch them spin and impact on targets. The Australian Aborigines could actually take Emu out even beyond 60 meters with specially tuned straight flying sticks which had maximum ranges beyond 100 meters. The accuracy challenge at that range is greater than at short range, but still the throwstick is amazingly deadly.
I went back and spent a few minutes looking at pictures of rabbit sticks/ hunting boomerangs /throwing clubs and it can be kind of hard to find anything to say about them that applies to all other than they are nearly all made of wood.
If something works there is no right or wrong. It is right. Every one I have ever seen or used myself was thicker. More mass. It has to stun the rabbit. (Yes this is primarily a rabbit stick). Have you taken a rabbit yet? Take yourself time and go hunting. It's really hard. Also what did you gain by taking the bark off the stick? Time, work and wear on the blade for no gain. In this case there is no reason to take the bark off. When there is a reason, use the back of the knife (spine). Save the blade.
I would love to see you craft and use an atl' atl' if i remember the name correctly, its essentially a a spear with a launching stick, look it up on google, I just found your channel, subbed instantly, where are you? I'm in northwest Georgia.. looking forward to hearing from you and seeing what you surprise you have in store for us next.
Thanks for watching Vladmir. Imho the biggest difference is hit probability. Because the stick is much longer than a stone it's hitting surface area is 10x that of the stone so the chance of a throwing stick hitting a small target is much greater.
+Swiftfox64 Thanks for watching! I shaved off the outer bark so that the throwing stick was less rough on my hands. It makes throwing more comfortable for me. :)
Great video. I just finished a throwing stick( rabbit stick). Mine is shaped like a V, looks like a returning boomerang, but it doesn’t. It flies so good. I did a video of me making it and using it. I’m trying to figure out how to get a couple of slo-mo shots with iMovie. I will be putting it up on my channel in a couple of weeks. It’s a roughed out, a little squared right now, but flies great. I will still be smoothing and rounding it out with my wood rasp. I would like to show a photo of it, but don’t know how on this comment board.
I've found one video of a man who kills two or three rabbits in a field of smooth dirt. For him it's simple and effective. ☺️All these other instructors in survival must not think so cause they only throw at the grass.
I'm not a throwing stick expert BUT I think the way you throw it is wrong, The point of the throw stick is to try get it flat and spinning in the air sideways, But you kept throwing it at an angle so even when in mid air it was tilting down, I think the flatter you can throw it the better chance you have of hitting the target.
Thanks for watching! I tried the flat throwing technique awhile back but found it to be a bit less accurate than throwing it diagonally. For such a simple weapon it really is pretty easy to become effective with it.
You don't know what you're talking about. Throwing sticks are carefully sculpted into an airfoil such that as the stick flies through the air, the lift generated by the airfoil forces it to fly a straight path. Any unbalancing of the stick makes it curve off to the side. That's why boomerangs come back to you. Boomerang is just the Australian word for any blunt wooden weapon.
Wrong throwing technique and construction. You are supposed to create an airfoil with a curved surface on top and flat on the bottom. All you did is throw an ordinary stick lol. Search TH-cam for the correct method.
I've noticed many others and myself included tend to have more luck throwing side arm kinda like skipping a stone
+Dom Santhuff Yes, I feel that the side arm throw works really well. Thanks for watching!
isn't one end supposed to be heavier then the other?
Thx for watching! Yes one end should be heavier.

Thanks for watching! :)
I don't understand what did you doing???
Thanks for watching!
@@WannabeBushcrafter nice reply
@@spongebobsquarepants8403 Thx!
not to criticize, but you really should keep your back foot on the ground it would be easier and stronger
+Noah Koenig Thanks for the tip! :)
If you're not going to criticize then you shouldn't have done so...it's like not telling a secret no on else should know about.

Very good point there about the bark
shanes channel the bark is soft and the inside wood is much denser
The curve part of the stick faces out......
Thanks for watching!

countryguywithcamera thanks for subbing, I'm looking into crafting an atlatl one of these days. :)
Is that a mora i see?
Thanks for watching combat clown! Yes, it's a mora companion HD
No problem brother! i just subbed too you. great video
What is the difference between throving stones and stick?

+Wannabe Bushcrafter Yes that's right.
Is there a reason you shaved the outer bark off?

How? Where? Can? I Order A throwing stick!?
Lol, thanks for watching! You can make one yourself :)
No! It's gotta be titanium and carbon fiber so it won't weigh down your apocalypse bug out bag.
so ive been doing this about 6 months and i sharpend the end and can actually penetrate the target...does anyone else do this
Thanks for watching! Yes I've been experimenting with a kind of throwing spike lately. I'm hoping to make a video about it soon!
Nice
Thanks!
Oh add to add to my comment. I also used my Mora knife as well.
Nice!
