  • Obubaire (xylophone) music from Busoga, Uganda. Song title is Olumbie wamanyi. Performed by Balikowa Centurio, David Kasata and Peter Kabodha of Ndere Troupe and recorded by Wade Patterson, Glendon Jones and Chris Zimmerman in Kampala, Uganda late 1994.

    This instrument is called akadinda. It is a large twenty-two-key xylophone in which they keys are freely set on two supporting logs running perpendicular to them.

    Well, the best XYLOPHONE play can only be found in the BUSOGA region[Uganda] where its called EMBAIRE. The polyphonic tunes are usually accompanied by dance but not a must.

    Great perforamnce. I love it. In Buganda they play a xylophone very similar to this one. Three musicians too, but only 12 keys. It's called amadinda. Playing amadinda is like obubaire something special.
