- This trail means a lot to me as one of the few who helped get it started and into an actual trail. The amount of walk, talking and paperwork involved with a trail system is more than most people care to take on. Unfortunately this trail was not put onto the condensed map in a way that showed the correct trail route but that is about to change with the ability of OnX Offroad. Using the app I was able to track and log the original(mapped and GPS'd) trail that was approved for this trail system. So sit back, enjoy and if you'd like to take a crack at this trail, download the OnX Offroad app and get the map for free!

Hi Colt, my name is AnnaLynn Wermers the daughter of the late Jon Wermers, just wanted to say your video is amazing about the new trail that was put in and my family plans to run the trail sometime this year before it closes for the winter.
I look forward to hearing about it and glad you found the video!
Mad respect to your wife and son for getting the sick shots to make this video!!!!
Nice trail Colt ,thanks for taking us along. Beautiful country man.
Glad you enjoyed it
Bro she walked that entire trail? 😵
In flippy floppys too!
@@coltbuildsit WOW
Its only 0.85 of a mile? 😁
Awesome trail Colt! Couldn't help but notice, "this part is called the squeeze", you pointed the camera at your wife lol. Oops! Did I text that out loud?!
14 of us guys took our quads, dirt bikes and side by sides to Lead, SD for a bachelor party. It was an awesome 3 days of rock crawling with our vehicles.
That rear steering makes it look way easier than it is !
I love that you tried to show how steep that climb was, so many people exegagerate hill climbs but don't notice thing in the background that show the truth. My trail rides were always out east with dirt and not many rocks and I saw a lot steeper hills but easier climbs.
great as always great content very entertaining great family and friends
Awesome trail, wish it was in reach to me. I thought I seen your buggy build on BJs page, at some point you did a run down. I'd really like to know some more about it, thanks for the awesome content so far happy to watch you do your own thing 🤙
Rushmore Rock Crawlers are going to be hitting that trail for sure!
Thx for the video.
Nine years and only 50 rigs have completed this trail. Must be the best kept secret in SD. Now the tourism department will be singing Cole's praises for bringing all his friends to follow in this footprints!
COLT is the man!!! Love this channel
Appreciate it!
When I’m being pushed down hill I’ll hit neutral and sometimes reverse to help with braking but you gotta know when and how much throttle to hit
Good morning
Morning
Buggies are cool & all but I don’t think most people have one. We have Jeeps and other regular 4x4s that we also daily or at least could daily if needed. Definitely don’t have rear steer.
I have a 94 YJ that sees more street then offroad unfortunately
I’m 15 mins from Matt’s bleeping Jeep here in lenoir city TN.
It should be "Colt Does it",
"Builds it" is just too limited.
Colt. At the top of your trash bag print the word "IF" :) just for laughs
Do you have build specs on your buggy? Curious to what you’ve to the running gear to run those tires.
22r, toyota 5 speed, dual toy cases(4.7 rear) d60/d70 axles from a dodge with 7.17 gears from a tug.
👍
I'm diggin how quiet these rigs are.
Awesome trail and video! You should come wheeling in Price Utah, i think you would have fun!!
That would be cool!
@@coltbuildsit let's make it happen! Mike from trailmater is going to come up and go Wheeling!
Thank you Colt , family and friend for the adventure , seeing some beautiful scenery and a few holy cows ride !
When I got my membership to onX-off-road, I used you as a discount code 🤘😎🤘
Awesome! Thank you!
Here is the link to the trail for any of you that would like to check it out.

That was a great trip. Not doing that in a stock rig. Wow.
Maybe I missed it but it would be good to know what you think the minimum requirements are for that trail. Is it Buggies with 40's plus only more or less?
We have Bongaars in Kansas now ! The only time that I was in South Dakota was back in 1981 driving my '54 International pickup from Minot AFB North Dakota to my home in Wichita , Kansas ! Sadly in was at night time !
Hi Colt, I love your channel and vid's. You are a very lucky man to have a wife that loves the things that you do and looks good too.
Love the little axle dragging Zuk and it’s still a propane driven! Thanks for sharing such a great video I really enjoyed it. 🍻
Thanks 👍
We get all our chickens at bomgaars. Great farming store.
Colt may be the best off road trail driver on TH-cam. Always informative and entertaining. Thanks for making the vids.
Thanks 👍
Agree
Rory Irish is, unequivocally, on a different planet.
That trail looks like a pretty technical one to take on. it does have some pretty views.
Huge shout out to the wife and son. That is not easy climbing on rocks and boulders to get shots. Crazy.
i'm from Clear Lake SD and rode the Spearfish Highway on motorcycle a few years back.Great ride but couldn't watch the hills very safely.
@ 16:30 dang! I guess if you have a $400+ hand-saw you should use it LOL
Nice to see ya out with your wife and son! Beautiful scenery there. Thanks for sharing
Absolutely love these videos you've been doing!
Is there a build video for the Samurai? I'm interested to know why you went with propane
Cheap and easy fuel injection
That's A Trail That's Going To SUPRISE A BUNCH OF PEOPLE, THAT it Can't Be That BAD, No Just OBad To THE BONE!!! 😜
How long do you feel comfortable running your rig on the two tanks without fear of running out on a trail like this.
One 5 gallon propane tank usually lasts 1.5-2 days of wheeling on this rig.
@@coltbuildsit could you do a video on the rig?
Hey there Colt and crew....good stuff...like your style! But, gotta laugh about you calling that buggy a Samurai...is there anything Suzuki besides the hood? lol.
Is that place where Jane was shot near Deadwood Mountain? Reason why I'm asking is because there's a song called Deadwood Mountain by Big and Rich on their "Horse of a Different Color" album.
Take it a little easier on the Forestry criticism. They work more acreage, in more places, in a greater number of conditions, for alot longer than BLM has been draining budgets and peoples pockets.
Dont like the Forestry maps? Make your own. Which im happy to see you did a ok job of.
We are going to need you to start adding QR codes for all the trials you do! Thats cool you did that. I will never make it up there because Life and Work don't mix, but its nice to know I could.
Nice trail, I was wondering if onex has the fire trails on there app, I ran them 40 years ago, maby they don’t let you do the old fire trails anymore, we always took chain saw for the fallen trees up there, I lived righ across from wild bills campground in the early 80s
Just fantastic that you are making the digital map for the trail. Love hiking trails that have been digi-mapped. It makes it easy to keep the novice hikers ( by being able to highlight exactly, the key sights) interested enough that maybe they become lifers!
What do you do when you're out now?Trailing the big old bear comes after you.🙅♀️🙅♀️🤷♂️🤔🤪🌭🌭🍟👍👍🙋♂️
10 years to create a trail is ridiculous! The system is broken. In california they'd never let you create a new trail.
My girl would not have walked that whole trail, kudos, great video, capable rigs and good driving are key
So nice to see Shanna! I was worried maybe you two split as we haven’t seen her for awhile.
Love all the information you provided in your videos
Glad you like them!
Bomgaars just moved into the KC region in the last year
I don't think my 02 Accord will do well on that trail...
Awesome Trail Great wheeling !!!
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
You guys are amazing! love the channel. Blessings.
Maybe a stupid question but does ur rig run on propane ?
Yes it does
Hey we’re in Sturgis for month with SXSs , looks like right down rd . Cool video !
That is a difficult trail. Thanks for sharing.
It really is!
Beautiful trail!
Thank you for all the hard work Colt.
I'll be back up there for Rockfest in a few weeks. Maybe I'll stay another day and check this out if I can talk someone into going with.
Is there any room for a trailer? I'll be at Hidden valley campground on 385, don't want to run on stickies all that way.
Parking at Walmart in Spearfish will only put you about 1 mile of pavement before dirt road. But there is a small parking area not too far from the trailhead.
@@coltbuildsit you're good people. Thanks man
Nice trail. What is the wheelbase of the Samauri.
105" WB
Hope you carry extra propane 😁
Heck, these 2 tanks will last me 3-4 days of wheeling.
Colt, why did you take the rear steer off of your buggy?
I have a couple samurai's. The Rear steer sami needs work but I need to finish the shop before I can fix it.
@@coltbuildsit ...oh that's cool...haven't seen it in your videos latey...just curious.
Ok, I am going to say it. No Way Colts wife is the mother of college boys, she looks too young and Colt sure did marry up. As per the trail, looks like a good time. 😊😊😊😊😊
Wow that’s tough trail you guys made look easy I know it’s not great video.🇺🇸👍🏻
Trail riding in SD sucks. Those rocks are on every trail worst riding ever can't do even 5 mph
Don't think my open diff 1995 YJ would handle that..
Most of the time I could not identify the trail. Definitely not obvious. Second, your wife was definitely not wearing shoes for the trail.
The Suzuki needs a small turbo, 4-7 psi
"The town of Lead. Not Lead but Lead." I like the S10 better than the Comanche. 👍🏼
We have a Bomgaars here in NW Arkansas. I buy my dog food there.
Let me borrow the keys to your 4x4, and we can find out together if I "have what it takes."
Hey Colt i didnt watch your build of your rig but i see you had a propane tank is that your fuel system in your rig
Can you explain why you chose propane to fuel the Sammy
Question : What air psi are you using ,wheel base and With?
I like south dakota and Colorado rock crawling. I live in Wyoming where we have some awesome terrain, but no rock crawling trails for some reason.
My friend haley i worked with on the road we sold motorcycle gear n leather she is a patch person well was she is a fashion designer now she grew up in spearfish and took us to spearfish falls super awesome spot
I added a forest service trail to onX(trail guide) and they put it in as a mapped (green)trail, but it still left the sort of outdated FS straight line track on there. Not sure if you tried to submit the track as an official trail or not in the creator portal(it still shows the straight line on my end) Either way I downloaded your track for future use!
It should be getting updated in their servers soon
Colt, how’s the propane MPG/PPM
Where do you live now ? Im so confused.
The camera just doesn't do that justice.
I am a graphic designer but I had a job as a cartographer (art of map making) at the only MN map making company....... I loved that job. I loved to create maps for the atlases in MN...... I miss it. Digital mapping killed paper mapping a few years ago and I lost that job. Thanks for sharing this new place with us Colt!!
Sounds like we could've used your skills in the Black Hills too.
Just joking but what is the pucker power rating of this trail ? 😅😅😅 I think you know what I meant !
It's a 10 of 10 for pucker rating
I loved seeing the picture of the 4 of you opening the trail. Great video Colt keep up the good work man.
Thanks! Will do!
Would the S10 fit through "the squeeze"
Oh yeah, it's a little narrower than the sami is actually
I like the logo, great idea
Very interesting trail.
I always look forward to your videos. I learn something new every time. Never thought of going downhill in front drive only. Thanks and keep them coming.
Great to hear!
didn't you have rear steer on your buggy?
On my other samurai I do, unfortunately that thing is always broken anymore
whats the reason for propane engine over a gas?
Cheap fuel injection and simple wiring
OnX seems like a cool mapping system.
It is the only one that I know of who is actually striving to attempt to make accurate trail maps currently.
Great rig you got and it did a great job of taming the trail. 👍
Thanks 👍
Have Lockers?
Have welded diffs😉😄👍
first
I would never make it in my Jeep Colt lol
I started watching this video and gave up after 3 minutes and 30 seconds because I have no interest in watching a commercial for OnX. I enjoy off-roading videos, not embedded commercials. You took the shilling too far. Unsubscribed.
It's a shame you're too ignorant to skip forward 10 seconds 😂
I waited for the " commercial" for 25 minutes,
Never saw a problem.
Nothing wrong with a few honorable mentions of products used by someone to make life a little better.
Your delusional my friend.
As if anybody cares half as much as you do, by typing this. 😂
Adios
Well if you would have listened at the start Colt said that he helped build this trail ! He also stated that the forest service has or had the only detailed map and maps on paper shows it as a straight line ! He then stated that he was doing this trail with OnX on to map the trail so others would be able to see how the trail really is and not straight line ! But you must illiterate or just plain stupid to understand what is being said or done ! So please crawl back into your mom and dad basement and shut up !
Your wife's out there with flip flops on. How? How? How tough is she?
Tougher than me
@@coltbuildsit Let Rory know, I said, Hi ! Thx.
COLT so what on your "SAMURAI" is orig besides the VIN#? 😂
The hood, frame and a few little parts
