I film weddings on the 250D every weekend, in 4K, using manual focus for certain shots, and the focus peaking is more than useable.

Reminds me of the crop experience we get on the m50. It's like a nice thing to have, but with the crop factor and the less reliable auto focus, I hardly ever touch the 4K. Great video though dude, the intro was really cool. You have a sweeeeet PC btw haha do you do any gaming on it? We haven't had a proper PC in years but planning on building a new editing/gaming PC when the new Ryzen 5000 series comes out and if we can somehow get our hands on a 3070 or 3080!
Hey Bro, Yes they are pretty much the same camera, same sensor and 4K options and limitations. Mate I wish I had time to play more games... one thing I did download though was the MCC hahah 😅 lots of nostalgia, seems like you've got a great plan on your PC upgrade - would love something running the Ryzen 5000 series! I'm trying to get more into Blender 2.8 so might have a good excuse to upgrade sooner (:
Well in that case I'm looking at the specs of my laptop and know it wouldn't be able to handle 4K videos anyway, so 1080p would cut it for me. That's another way to look at it!

Thanks 🙏 glad it was useful - to help with editing in 4K you can create proxy files - where you render all your files out at 1080 and then switch to edit proxies in premier pro - that way you can edit in 1080 and then render out the 4K 👌
- 2024 and I don't even need a 4k television to enjoy watching movies, or streaming.
I actually loved the experience of the lesson. indeed, I have been encountering the same challenge. As a beginner, I use DSL3 in my music production.

Main difference between 4k and fullhd: youtube/netflix/... use a higher bitrate on 4K. When you upscale fullhd to 4K, you will hardly notice any difference on youtube. 4K is mostly useful for cropping, or when you watch blu-ray on large screens

I wasn’t happy with the AF for my podcast so I got an A6100… Quite happy now
I like to use 4k video mode on 250D like a additional zoom on celebrations and concerts, with 50mm EF lens for low lighting it's good setup, on another scenarious I preffer 1080p.
I've been using it, and saw it here too, there's a lot of rolling shutter. I like the native colors a lot, but the crop factor and rolling shutter make still wonder if I should get something else.

I would be good if the crop was the only problem with the 4k canon, but unfortunately 24fps 4k on canon SL3 looks like framing in 15fps / shutter speed looks like so low … I googled a lot trying to fix that but I can’t, so that’s why I never use 4k
Maybe for a beginner, or someone on a low budget, this camera might help as a stepping stone in 4k shooting.

Thanks for upload KaiCreative. As You have mentioned there isn't focus peaking in sl3/250d in video especially 4k, I found my sl3 to have this option. Did You set up Your camera for focus peaking ? I do have this option in photo and video mode. Also I'm able to choose the colour for peaking. Maybe I did not understand You correctly :) thanks for reply in advance.

@@KaiCreative too be really honest i have no idea :P basically i have switched off auto focus on lens and then first tab menu position 7 in settings You can see focus peeking settings both for video and photo, also in 4k. Sorry if i didnt say anything new :P

Hi, thank you on the video about 250D vs M50 especially on that small note that 250D has audio vu gauge/meter as well as noting that "clean HDMI output". I never knew about both of this until I watched that video. I've read few sources but I think, none ever mentioned these 2 distinct characteristics. A friend of mine suggested me to go for mirrorless and I'm kind of a fence, after watching other videos, I came to a conclusion that mirrorless is still young while DSLR are quite mature to the point their performance are quite stable I think.
I plan to get the 250D because of what I said above, while M50, I think can be a good option as well because all it takes would be a firmware updates. That being said, I heard M50 MK2 has similar hardware but added software functions, wouldn't that mean the initial M50 may get a firmware update similar to the mk2 as well?
@Coo Koo i cancelled my plan on getting the 250D as I had to use the money elsewhere that's more dire that came latter after i planned to buy this
Good thing I hold back very heavily from buying it, I still not sure the benefits of mirrorless as it is still quite new even though already been 10 years and i would say it is still at an infant stage because there would be more powerful chip produced in the future maybe in the next 5-20 years would be worth it?
@Coo Koo another reason apart what's stated previously, a friend of mine who're also invested almost high end equipment, told me better to go with just phone's camera as it is small, easier to carry and its an everyday carry item, he recommended me xperia 1 mk2, which can be considered as 'mirrorless' too, though i pretty much like want to avoid phones or "do it all device" cause phones especially, often has a general lifespan of around 3 years before the official firmware update dropped, and emerging hardware issues later such as battery.
that was true also, as i actually seldom do videos as i often use my phone, galaxy note 1, i also think that i need to gain more supporter first then i could consider upgrading my camera gears

Cannot choose 4k 25fps on my 250d can someone help I only can 1080p what’s going wrong
Unfortunately there isn't a single DSLR or Mirrorless in this exact price range that allows a notable better performance in 4k. Let's not kid ourselves M50 is essentially same thing when it's used in 4k. Current competitor Fuji XT200 may house appealing specs about 4k but does lackluster autofocus in 4k. G85 is another fail. I use my 250d to take simple 4Ks like cooking shoots or some static environmental footages. Honestly get a smartphone for this price. You may lose a bit in details but never in reliable autofocus.
I am starting to record music videos in 4K they are mostly going to be outside should I get it ? And if I switch to diff mode when inside would it work well with the footage ?

Try starting out with the 50mm F. 1.4 or depending on your budget the Sigma Art 18-35mm is a great lens!!! But the 50mm is always a good option

I know .. this is an old video about a camera I'm just now interested in. But I'm curious why 4k is such a big deal when most people don't have the capability to watch 4k even in 2024, or have a device that can handle 4k. So what exactly is the purpose of 4k.?
4K on this camera was really a fad selling point back when it was released. However 4K is easily handled by many devices now - I managed to edit a 20 min vlog in 4K 30fps on my iPhone 14 pro last year and now on the 15 pro max it’s so much easier 🙏👍👍
@@KaiCreative - good for you to have that, and the wealth to afford it. But that wasn't my point, you skipped past that. So this tells me that if you have the wealth, 4k is for you. But there's still no reason to worry about it, because most don't have the capability to watch true 4k even on most iPhones. It's not about editing differences, or color differences, color versus black and white video quality.
Ok so let me address the purpose of 4K first, as I see it:
4K is higher quality, if you want to produce videos with better image quality shoot in 4K.
Most modern devices can handle the edit - my PC is 6 years old this year - it manages 4K well.
The iPhone 14 Pro - is abundant and owned by people of various financial backgrounds- one does not need to be ‘wealthy’ to own one 👍
To summarise: This video is old, the SL3 is old, times have moved on, 4K isn’t a big deal, I regularly shoot and edit in 4K even on my modestly priced iPhone 14 Pro, which even the non wealthy can afford 🙏👍

M50 or SL3 for video filming?
Great question! I feel like I will have to make this as a separate review video soon! I guess it depends on the glass you have - what lenses do you have at the moment? I think the versatility of the M50 with the speedbooster gives it a little bit of an edge - but it means more money to spend - also the SL3 battery lasts a lot longer 😁
@@KaiCreative I'm still planning to get my first camera. This pandemic reminded me how much I loved video editing when I was still in high school. I didn't pursue it back then because of financial issues. Now that I can afford to buy my camera, I want to do filmmaking.
