Considering how many dark wizards and goblins I've murdered and my play style, I changed from my cute stylish outfits to more of an assassin look. Asylum mask, dark arts robe hood up (so hat invisible), legendary outfit, scarf invisible. My style is disillusionment, using basic cast to lure an enemy away from his buddies (if there are many enemies), then casting Accio from a distance pulling them further away and killing them fast and then back into stealth. I pick them off one by one. Unless they're spread out, then I can petrificus them all one by one. Or if I'm at the top of a cliff looking down on them, Accio and let them fall to their death.

If you read the cards in the collections there are all kinds of cool things like this you can do. Flipendo will make a troll smack itself with it's club after it smacks the ground and misses you with it. When the big spiders rear at you, you can use Descendo and make them stick their heads in the ground. If you use Levioso on Dugbogs when they use their tongue attack, it will lift them up by the tongue and you can slice it off with Diffindo to immediately kill them.
I found it kinda lame that the 'cool trick' of lifting and slicing the dugbogs was the ONLY WAY to deal decent damage to them. They're wicked spongy to EVERYTHING else and effectively immune to most other control spells. Probably the most BORING enemy to fight because of that.
@@StBrodes You can also deal decent damage to them, if you hit the with a force spell liike flipendo or accio, after theyve charged you. It flips them on ther back, making them vulnerable.
There are note cards when viewing the enemy types, it gives great tips on how to beat them quicker. There are definitely some things that only come up in the dueling feats though.

I’m now realizing how much development went into the combat. Wow. Okay. They really expanded the world/lore just with the combat. The possibilities are just crazy, you can do stuff with spells I never would have thought of because we haven’t had a good example of combat with magic prior to this. This is insaaaaane!

Avada Kedevra automatically one shots as soon as you get access to the spell, idk what youre talking about. Would defeat the whole purpose of even having that spell if it didnt one shot
Never upgraded expeliarmus and still had that effect on the firestorm casting people. Shame we don't get to use these spells. Might be awesome combat openers. Altho I can't imagine they being practical if npc's can just walter out of the aoe.
I was able to kill up to four people with one single Avada Kedavra. There is a talent that makes the spell rebound on every single enemy that is cursed and within the area. After that, I became like the notorious mass murderer Sirius Black

Facts. I love going around and just finding loads of enemies to fight now that I am close to 100% completion. Taking my time with the rest of what I have left lol. Enjoying every second of it.

@@WJAMSoares right, like flip a dugbog after it charges at you, or when it's about to attack with it's tongue you can use levioso, or you can flip the club back into a trolls face after they smash, slam a spider matriarchs head into the ground when they charge up an attack. There is a lot of stuff that you could do to make the combat much more fun then it already is, you just have to read the feats or the enemy descriptions.
and the collection menu has a section for enemies. It literally tells you that his guy can have his spell go crazy if you interrupt him mid-cast. In other words, what we just saw....
That's why it's worthwhile to read info on the various enemies in the collection section. It tells you about all of these special spell interactions. For example, for duelists I think, if you hit them with diffindo when they're casting I think reducto (whatever the unblockable one is), it will cause them to lose control and hit one of their friends with it instead.
With all the people role playing as dark wizards, I really wish they would have added some morality scale that impacted questlines. It would have been awesome if the final quest was a battle for Hogwarts, where if you were good you defended it, if you were evil you attacked it

Just learned this yesterday but you can actually throw the arrows from archers when they shoot, you have to press throw right as the red indicator appears

Most enemies have a counter to their strong attacks that leave them vulnerable for a time. Flipendo a troll with a club to do MASSIVE damage (after they go for a blockable club smash)
Combat in this game use to straight up frustrate me. Now I love the hell out of it. I straight up gang crap in this game. Now that I have the timing. There times I just wipe out bad guys with out ever taking a hit. Heck even wiped out entire camp before they can really do anything. Its nasty when you get the timing down.
The game also has some pretty crazy power growth, though. Early on I had to rely on combos in order to do enough damage, now I oneshot most enemies with a stupefy cast and bombarda just deletes people. I have avada kedavra, but I honestly don't even need it.
In the PC version of HP and the chamber of secrets, expelliarmus is used a a spell that can bounce the enemies' spells. I'm not entirely sure if at the time that was considered canon, but I guess they implemented it in Hogwarts Legacy maybe as a nod, maybe as a way to give more uses to the spell, but is still kinda cool to see the spell working as a counter again.
yea you basically played badminton or tennis with the spells in the books and movies expelliarmus just disarms the opponent, causing them to lose their wand
Yeah, can find out all the cool stuff you can do with different enemies in the collections. You can even arresto momentum them to make the fire last longer (or lightning) and pull or push enemies into it to deal massive damage. Great when fighting tough enemies. Some other interesting ones are using certain spells on some enemies to make them hit another enemy or using the transfiguration spell on the animagus when they transform to make them transform back
That is described in your guide. Not only it tells you about types of enemies, it also tells weak spots, like doing expelliarmus while they are casting the fire.

I wish. It would be like in Baldur's gate 2, when you casted spells in the city then the Cowled Wizards would come to try to arrest you. You would have 7 or so duels with increasingly higher and higher wizards until they would send an elven princess (who canonically is an undead lich that body swapped into her) to try to murder you and if you beat her then they just give up and let you cast spells anywhere in the city.
there's a lot of wacky stuff you can do with some spells that i only realized because of the dueling challenges. stuffing a spider matriarch's head into the ground, making someone hit themself with their own spell, flipping a trolls club back into his face using flippendo, the list goes on
@@sateleim the matriarchs only do uncounterable (red circle) attacks but if you notice time really slows for them as they charge, that window of time is when you need to use descendo
@@danielwithane911 nothing slows down on hard mode, it's impossible to cast descendo after you see a red circle, you have to watch its movement.. But yeah, it does descent damage and increases damage done while its stuck
Love your fighting style btw, looks elegant is how I'd describe it. Like a planned out set of moves. I tend to panic and just go berserker mode! 😂 Gets the job done but I should read the enemy cards more and learn this stuff. Great video.
To be fair, the combat in this game is so fast paced most wouldn’t realise this. It’s pretty much a button spam system that heavily relies on dodging, parries, cool-downs etc that you rarely take battles slowly.
I read that in the journal that expeliarmus on a enemy casting disrupt it and turn the spell against them The same way transformation on a polymorphed enemy turn them back human and stun them for a while
An somehow the killing curse is "unforgivable" while burning somehow alive in a massive fire tornado that is a danger to the surrounding area, is completely fine
I've finished this game now .. wish it was longer , it feels like the end game should only be the beginning of this adventure , they surely can't aim to leave things hanging like that and only doing your 5th year it feels unfinished. Spoilers After the ending like if you decide to open the thing your basic casts should be like a green and black bolt as you have aligned with the dark arts . Same as if you chose to seal it, your basic casts should be a bright white/red mix to show you aligned with good Wish this game had a morality system in place and had consequences to using the unforgiveable curses. They HAVE to bring dlc .. I'd much rather this world expanded upon and me able to take my character through the whole school years then pursue a career after school say a death eater where you recruit an army etc or an auror and work for the ministry or a simple merchant life where you would be approached by the ministry and the dark arts users to help aid them in the coming battles by supplying gear and potions and fill out orders and choose a side. This game could be so much more , but like everything these days the should be never happens and your left disappointed. Hopefully they do flesh this world out a lot more.
@UK-ALPHADOG They've announced that there will be no DLC, at least not in the form of a full, paid DLC. That's probably due to the idea that they're making a second game.

I simply spam my spell combinations. During a big fight there's no time to switch to each characters specific finishers. I only focus on the weaknesses. It's either fire, ice or force.
If you follow the “feats” challenge, you’ll see a lot of spells can be used at specific moments to do crazy things, but I find it a bit niche cuz you have to time it very carefully and in most fight you cant
When I get a combat challenge like that, I kill everyone else first, and save the target till last. Then you can just block until they cast what you need them to cast, and easily achieve your feat
That's why you read information about the enemies you've encountered in collections... You can one-shot dugbogs with levioso + diffindo. You can one-shot ashwinder rangers with stupefy. You can one-shot mongrels with depulso. You can freeze an executioner with arresto momentum and then pull other enemies into lightning/fire. You can also one-shot some enemies with diffindo or glacius before they manage to cast a spell, but the timings are hard.

Se usar levitar ou flipendo na aranha quando ela tiver entrando na terra também causa dano massivo. Se usar flipendo no orc quando ele me Bater com sua arma no chão e nela ficar, ele se bate. Quando uma aranha grande for te morder e você usar nela descendo, ela morde o chão e fica presa. E se você se esquivar de um anão no segundo ataque ele pula, se usar descendo nesse momento ele toma muito dano.
And I guarantee you this, if you slow down the executioner MID WAY OF their casting, and then DEPULSO enemies into the piller of fire / Thunder, they will die :) Have fun!

It took me a long time to realize that expelliarmus makes executioners’ spells backfire on them, and I didn’t know until I started paying attention to the combat feat prompts in the lower right of the screen. It’s ridiculously satisfying to watch executioners kill themselves, especially since they damn near killed me earlier on in the game.
That's cuz you didn't read your collection tab. It tells you all their weaknesses. If you slow them down as they cast that spell the fire tornado will last longer.
I believe that the Executioner posing like that while casting the fire pillar is a Doom 2 (1994) reference because an enemy called Archvile strikes the exact same pose while casting pillars of fire at your location.

I'm over 40h in the game and still didn't have that feat, only one to slow them down while they charge lighting spell.

Do you have to block it first and then flipendo? I haven’t gotten it to work yet
For the ones that throw rocks, you can protego and then hit RB (don’t stupify) and you’ll throw the rock at them which gives a huge debuff.
You can also expelliarmus the goblins and throw their weapon back at them.

I took out a whole pack of mongrels with the protego blast skills and that was it. Didn't have to fire a shot. Made me feel powerful af lol

Love your fighting style btw, looks elegant is how I'd describe it. Like a planned out set of moves. I tend to panic and just go berserker mode! 😂 Gets the job done but I should read the enemy cards more and learn this stuff. Great video.

basically every enemy has their own weakness and by reading their bio in Collection page, you will know which spell to use on which enemy.
Like hanging the frogs by their tongues then slicing them open. Magical dissection!
or by looking at the combat feats, which almost always tell you how to exploit an enemy's weak point sooner or later.

To be fair, the combat in this game is so fast paced most wouldn’t realise this. It’s pretty much a button spam system that heavily relies on dodging, parries, cool-downs etc that you rarely take battles slowly.
I read that in the journal that expeliarmus on a enemy casting disrupt it and turn the spell against them
The same way transformation on a polymorphed enemy turn them back human and stun them for a while

An somehow the killing curse is "unforgivable" while burning somehow alive in a massive fire tornado that is a danger to the surrounding area, is completely fine
I've finished this game now .. wish it was longer , it feels like the end game should only be the beginning of this adventure , they surely can't aim to leave things hanging like that and only doing your 5th year it feels unfinished.

After the ending like if you decide to open the thing your basic casts should be like a green and black bolt as you have aligned with the dark arts . Same as if you chose to seal it, your basic casts should be a bright white/red mix to show you aligned with good
Wish this game had a morality system in place and had consequences to using the unforgiveable curses. They HAVE to bring dlc .. I'd much rather this world expanded upon and me able to take my character through the whole school years then pursue a career after school say a death eater where you recruit an army etc or an auror and work for the ministry or a simple merchant life where you would be approached by the ministry and the dark arts users to help aid them in the coming battles by supplying gear and potions and fill out orders and choose a side. This game could be so much more , but like everything these days the should be never happens and your left disappointed. Hopefully they do flesh this world out a lot more.

I simply spam my spell combinations. During a big fight there's no time to switch to each characters specific finishers. I only focus on the weaknesses. It's either fire, ice or force.

If you follow the “feats” challenge, you’ll see a lot of spells can be used at specific moments to do crazy things, but I find it a bit niche cuz you have to time it very carefully and in most fight you cant
When I get a combat challenge like that, I kill everyone else first, and save the target till last. Then you can just block until they cast what you need them to cast, and easily achieve your feat
That's why you read information about the enemies you've encountered in collections...
You can one-shot dugbogs with levioso + diffindo. You can one-shot ashwinder rangers with stupefy. You can one-shot mongrels with depulso. You can freeze an executioner with arresto momentum and then pull other enemies into lightning/fire. You can also one-shot some enemies with diffindo or glacius before they manage to cast a spell, but the timings are hard.
Always do Duelling Feats. Great way to learn counters and have fun with it!
Incinerating people with fire tornados seems way worse than a spell that simply unalives them

Expelliamus can make the enemy cast the spell on himself, he used Expelliamus when the enemy wanted to cast, so enemy cast on himself instead

And I guarantee you this, if you slow down the executioner MID WAY OF their casting, and then DEPULSO enemies into the piller of fire / Thunder, they will die :)

It’s always a habit to hop out out of danger even knowing I’ll counter it…
I also realized after playing for so long that holding Accio on certain objects triggers Wingardium Leviosa.
It’s incredible how much information people skip reading despite it being readily accessible and displayed on their screen about what to do and how to do it
It took me a long time to realize that expelliarmus makes executioners’ spells backfire on them, and I didn’t know until I started paying attention to the combat feat prompts in the lower right of the screen. It’s ridiculously satisfying to watch executioners kill themselves, especially since they damn near killed me earlier on in the game.

That's cuz you didn't read your collection tab. It tells you all their weaknesses. If you slow them down as they cast that spell the fire tornado will last longer.

If you read the guide, Expelliarmus redirects spell on mage/caster type enemies.

In Hogwarts Legacy, the wizards you kill with the killing curse are the lucky ones, because at least there the death is quick

I believe that the Executioner posing like that while casting the fire pillar is a Doom 2 (1994) reference because an enemy called Archvile strikes the exact same pose while casting pillars of fire at your location.
They actually tell you this in the collection section of the enemies all their weaknesses

Expelliamus might not feel like it has the damage, but it is the most elegant spell esp with upgrades and a hoot to use.

I found out too that if you use Decendo on the bigger spiders that stomp, they get stuck in the ground!

The game has tons of these kinds of enemy weaknesses. You just need to read the info on the cards about the enemies that you collect
