Hey Mr. Nerdcubed, remember Nioh, the samurai/ninja dark soulsy game that you loved? Well they made a Nioh 2 and improved just about everything. Have fun with that!
I've gone and checked! Fourteen minutes into the original Dark Souls video, Dan was frantically yelling 'hit him with my stick' at the Asylum Demon multiple times before finally...drinking an Estus flask.
I have played this game literally thousands of times. I have played it on 360. I have played it on PS3. I have played it on the Switch. I have played it on PC. I have played the Remaster on PC. I have played the randomizer. I have played Age of Sunlight. I have played Daughters of Ash. I have finished every game in the franchise and consider it to be one of my favourite series to date. Literally thousands of hours spent and I have all trophies on every platform for almost every game. I have never looked through that window at the Asylum demon. Not even once.

somehow the idea of dan dying is a lot more upsetting to me than the idea of _me_ dying. Like oh no, Dan is gonna be old and perish :(( and ill know about it too :(( my death tho? cruisin', ready for it, loooong overdue B)
It's about 2 years too late, but if you were still curious what that 'eyeball crab' was, it's something called a Vagrant. It's a very rare enemy that spawns where someone died while carrying a lot of souls.
I bought Dark Souls on launch day and I fucking hated it. I don't think I even got to the Gargoyles before giving up. But every 6 months or so, I'd get an itch to see if I could get further. I'd get a little bit further every time then give up again. After 3 and half years of doing this, In Anor Londo the game finally clicked. I was determined to beat Ornstein and Smough solo, and everything before that was child's play in comparison. After about 10 hours of fighting them I finally won and it felt so good. I instantly became determined to beat every boss in the game, and did until I finished it. Now I fucking love souls games.
Those eyeball crabs (or Vagrants) wigged me out when I found out about them, but they're a rare enemy that appears when a player dies with a ton of soft humanity on them, or when a player drops certain types of items and reloads the area. I'm still learning stuff about this game years after I picked it up.
I'm always gonna have nostalgia for this, mainly the switch version. Something about playing it back in high school on weekend nights felt so magical for me. From the exploration to reading each enemy and fighting them, from Anor Londor to the Chasm of the Abyss, I love this game from beginning to end. Even the theme of never giving up was powerful for me here.

one time in dark souls 2 a spider dropped a zweihander, it happened in the area where there are a shitload of spiders, by those weird sand sinkholes, I wish I had it on recording.

I thought something was wrong with my headphones with that Patreon intro. I fear no man who beat Dark Souls on switch, for I have beaten Dark Souls on switch, thrice.
The “eyeball crab” is called a vagrant. They appear in a random player’s world after another player loses a large amount of souls/humanity or drops an item which they fail to pick up.
Pretty sure Dark Souls Switch contributed to my stick-drift. Totally worth it, because I too beat it on only the Switch. (You have probably completed it on PC by now, its been 7 months.)
The "eyeball crab" you talk about around 14:30 is in fact a Vagrant. They're a special enemy that appear in your game when a player has died in the area (recently?) with a significant amount of souls on them. Eyeball crab = Vagrant
Vagrants have a tiny chance to spawn when a player with a ludicrous amount of souls die.
