    Ever sat back and wondered what will money be able to purchase when it comes to an analog DSP radio? Maybe not, but if that question should cross your mind, I hope the answer can be found in this video.
    Both radios represent amazing abilities for their respective categories. If your household doesn't have a portable radio at all and you are looking for one. Consider the Kaito KA390, it's entry level price tag and capable performance across it's four bands represent a huge value. If your looking for a radio to use in a rural setting then the C.Crane EP-Pro may be the radio you need to get those distant stations clearly. It's external antenna jacks may come in useful for such a task.

    Enjoyed this. Love what CCrane did with this radio. I have been considering it for a while. High marks for what Kaito achieved for the price. I like its fixed handle making it so easy to grab and go. Good and insightful comparison.

    Interesting.
    I like this video.
    As you say, the Kaito is a great emergency radio.
    It’s really amazing how many people just don’t own any radio at all- especially since we had 2 hurricanes here (Jacksonville Florida).
    Of course the C.Crane is absolute top of the line (as all C.Cranes are).
    👍🙂‼️📻📻

      Someone wanted me to compare the Kaito to the CCRadio because I mentioned how well the FM performed on the KA390. It is a great radio for a household to have on hand.

      I think Kaito made the right choice to focus more on emergency radios. It’s a niche market but a large one.
      C.Crane makes radios for a niche market but a much smaller one, thus adding to the price.
      Comparisons like this are good to help direct people to figure out what kind of radio they should be looking at/for.
      🙂📻📻📻📻📻🙂👍‼️

      todderbert very interesting.
      I did 12 years in prison,
      And when I was getting ready for release , I had a friend purchase 4 radios for me. ( C.Crane, being the ONLY one to send me a catalog while still in)
      I got:
      C.C.SWPocket
      C.C.SW
      Kaito ka1103
      Sangean ats909
      All but the Kaito are still working great.
      That was over 10 years ago.
      And Kaito has worked hard at bringing their quality up.

    The kaito rocks. I am a pipe fitter and work in basements a lot and it works well for the price.buy one you cannot go wrong, worth more than the price....

    As much as I admire CCrane radios, that little 20 dollar Kaito is more impressive to me given it's performance to cost ratio.
    Both great radios but the cost is substantially different.

    Cc crane should definitely consider adding the weather band and air band to this radio.

    The Kaito radio accounts for itself very well for a mere $20 but can not be expected to go up against an all star radio like the CC EP Pro which is the Bryce Harper of radios. The C Crane people really know what there doing when they put together a radio.

    IMHO, I think the Kaito compares very well with the C.Crane especially considering the price difference. Thanks for comparing them! 👍 For $20 or so the Kaito would make a great little radio for folks to have on hand in case of an emergency. As I live in Houston, hurricanes are the first type of emergency situation that comes to my mind. It's always a good idea to have a little AM/FM radio on hand and it's a BIG plus if it also receives the NOAA weather stations.
    With the optional AC power adapter, do you happen to know if the Kaito is capable of recharging its batteries? I looked on the Amazon and Kaito USA sites but I couldn't find an answer to my question. (Unless I just missed it.) I do like the fact that the Kaito uses D cell batteries. Obviously, that's good for extended power outage situations.
    Thanks for the review! Cheers! Bob 😎📻

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your Welcome Bob! I opened the Kaito up to take pictures for my patrons on Patreon and it did not look like it charges the batteries. It appears that the DC jack disconnects the battery leads when inserted.

    • @rafaucett
      @rafaucett 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OK. Thanks. I kind of figured that was the case. Not a big deal. Heck, even with just using D cell *alkaline* batteries, having a dozen or so batteries on hand would power the Kaito for a long time! Thanks again! Bob 🙂

    • @RobRoyR8R
      @RobRoyR8R 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know the weather by looking, or going outside. C Crane can let you know what is going on hundreds of miles from YOUR location. That's a plus, to let you know how far a situation is reaching.

    This is my second try with the Kaito 390 the first was DOA ,only the power light came on.The FM on Kaito 390 is fantastic even with the antenna even being lifted. The AM is another thing as it hardly picks up anything that normally would be able with any other radio. DXing AM at night is great I was able to pick up WSM 650 Nashville Tenn 500 miles,WLW 700 Cincinnati Oh 500 miles,WEB 750 Atlanta Ga.293 miles and WJR Detroit Mi. 810 miles. Hard to believe I know maybe it has DSP problems ?

    • @flyboy6258
      @flyboy6258 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with your AM non performance assessment. More powerful stations are heard in more than one place onthe dial and others are weak or not present when compared to my Sangean DT-200X. I'm tempted to open it up to see if the ferrite rod is even connected.

    I love the Kaito and agree it would be perfect with a lighted dial and I would add Lithium ion back up . I love the EP Pro just add the WB /Alert and it would be hard to beat .

    What's the benefit of using an analog dial dsp tuner radio compared to radio with digital tuner with lcd?

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many feel that the Analog dial will outlast the Digital Displays.

      @@todderbert Thank you for clarifying Todd. I was scratching my head a bit. Reminds me the movie Arachnophobia. I guess we all have some sort of phobia.

    • @tech29X
      @tech29X 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@todderbert On the other hand, I guess they don't mind the inconvenience of cranking the tuner knob every time shifting between different bands (ie: Listening to FM music, then switching to AM to check on news for 10 minutes, then back to their favorite FM) Or trying to evade those pesky commercial brakes... crank, crank, crank the tuning knob. Oh joy!

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tech29X I have a few radios, so it's not a problem for me :) I leave my EP-Pro Dialed into my favorite station of the week. I use a variety of radios for AM listening. Surprised that most are Analog dials. I only grab a digital radio when I want to confirm something, or do serious Shortwave listening.

    While Crane Radios work O.K. , I think they are Over priced - There's other options -- I still think, for now, Tecsun is a good deal, I've had good luck with them !!! , My problem is living in an old building in Chicago, and there's LOTS Of Sheilding- Can't put antenna on roof -- Got to figure out something else--- Maybe make a loaded whip ?

    I'll be honest I brought c.f. radio ended up in the garbage didn't like f.m. didn't like a.m. but they say they are d.s.p. improved from being so bad I didn't even want to give it a try, but wow change of heart that radio isn't even the same radio, wow. I'm glad you changed the stations if you did that put on one channel and leave it there I would have never known. C.c.pro good now. O.k. now it's time for me to let the rest of the video go and see how the kaito is.

  • @cduby1424
    @cduby1424 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The c.c pro has a longer dial making it better I feel room enough for identifying differences in stations. Kaito is strong but jumpiness brings up anxiety. A blank spot every now and then is a good thing. The old c.c. was stations a total mess, unacceptable, a.m. was smooth, but so so.

    There's nothing written on box that really confirms anything.
    Dials are analogue, box days "Digital FM"
    But it has me&SW too.
