On a side note. If he turned hard driver while he was getting dragged backwards it would have walked the front end away from the edge. Check out the TH-cam channel “Matt’s off road recovery”. They do a lot of rescues like this. It’s counter intuitive but if you’re getting dragged the front and works with you.
Foe Subaru's AWD to kick in he needs to hold constant low throttle, as 1 or 2 wheels slip, the power is transferred to the other wheels. It is not like driving a 4x4
The problem is this works only if you have some traction, but if you have no traction at all, the engine management is going to cut your power off so you basically have to floor it to get any decent amount of power from the engine but being on an edge like this is not the place to floor it
Nice video. Are you running falken wildpeak AT tires on the 4 runner? I have a ford expedition that’s stock except the wild peak at3’s. Used to drive on the beach all the time on ling island. The over-landing looks like a lot of fun.

the recovery point on the subaru is that square plastic box on the bumper. That pops off to give you a recovery point in the back.
Recovery point or tow point??
@@thebitterhiker call it what you want but you hook up to it and you pull the car from that locations

As a newbie, would max track boards have helped in this situation?

That is correct. I have Wildpeaks but really wanted the Goodyear kevlars. Those are a lot quieter on the 4Runner. Thanks for the awesome review!!
Never take a Subaru off-roading with road tires have any of you guys ever heard of a Jeep ? Lol
