True story. The Monday morning after this movie came out, I went into work and found my boss's house keys on my desk with a note "please feed the cats while we're gone" (which I'd done before but this time no warning.) He called in later in the day with his story: He saw Hook over the weekend. He felt so bad for all of his son's baseball games he'd missed that he packed up the whole family and immediately flew them all to Disney World!
That's awesome. It reminds me of a story I heard about the original little mermaid movie, where a father searched for his estranged daughter and made up with each other, all because he watched the movie and was effeted by its message. I heard that on its dvd commentary. Ah, the power of fairy tales.
@@whitenoisereacts Carrie Fisher even had a blink-and-you'll miss it cameo with George Lucas. They were the couple kissing on the bridge that got sprinkled with pixie dust.
The "make believe" feast that Peter has with the Lost Boys was always one of my favorite scenes from my childhood. I always wanted to try the foods that were on that table. Especially the desserts!
Omg yes yes and sooo much more yes! I still to this day would absolutely love to try the food and as you said those colourful looking desserts look amazing for some reason🤣
Let's take a moment to appreciate a time where kids movies were okay with the line "We kill pirates" no euphemisms. Just directly saying that these kids kill.
Dude Hook just states that he kills children as well. He doesn't fight them, or battle or brawl. Nah he just fuckin' kills Lost Boys and admits to have done it already.
I recently became a Father, my son is 8 months old and I can say that as a parent now this film hits very hard. That scene where Peter finds his happy thought, with the happy thought being the birth of his son is incredibly emotional for me. I cry every time I watch that scene. Being a Husband and Father is by far the greatest thing in my life, I wouldn't trade it for anything.
My dad said he saw this in theaters and he was like, “That was all right, not bad.” Then I was born and he gets so effing emotional watching this; Hook is now one of his favorite movies.
I don't even have kids of my own, but my sister has 5 kids. They're the most important people in the world to me, and I can't imagine how much more intense that feeling must be if they're your own kids. To this day my worst nightmare I've ever had was where I was babysitting them at a beach and one of them drowned. Never woke up in such a cold sweat and too panicked to go back to sleep before that.
My wife and I love this movie, but we haven't watched it since we had our kids. I'm going to cry a lot during my next watch. I used to never cry during movies, but having kids changed that. I found that out when I watched Onward. Holy crap did that movie hit me like a ton of bricks.
It's actually very impressive how Spielberg was able to take a story where peter pan grows up and make it work perfectly while sticking close to the mythology of the original book at the same time! This one is definitely a childhood classic for me.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned (nor am I totally sure it isn't a bit of movie apocrypha, but I really enjoy it as a tidbit), but in the scene toward the end where Peter chooses a new leader for the Lost Boys by giving him his sword, none of the kids knew who it was actually going to be when they filmed it. All of those looks of anticipation are genuine, as is the reaction of the kid it got passed to. Which is cool.
@@chanceneck8072 I agree it's magical but there are only 3 movies that make me cry as an adult. My girl. Neverending story and a shoe called The Uncanny Counter...... oh a 4th! Train to Busan
@@Molly.Wobbles Damn.... 2 out of those 4 I have not seen yet. 😅 But I'm planning to watch Train To Busan with a friend of mine soon, maybe around halloween time either this year or next year. I can cry for A TON of movies. Usually those are my favorites. 😅 but I also know different types of crying. Usually it's the type, when I see something heartwarming, beautiful or magical. But there can also be little excitement tears like when I'm so pumped about a soundtrack (like Rocky 4 montage or Twister) or performance. Very rarely it's a sad cry. Like have you seen Lord Of The Rings? There's a character that dies in the third movie and he's talking to his daughter while he does, I don't wanna spoil too much if you haven't seen it. But it's like, he was dying mid sentence and the last word he says is her name. I don't know, that one always hit me particularly powerful. But I just named that as one example to give you a usual idea of my feelings. But I even got a few tears just typing this case right now. 😅🤭 I just love movies exactly because of that. Because of how they make me feel. 🥰
@@chanceneck8072 me too, movies and shows bring me lots of joy. Train to Busan is without a doubt the best Zombie movie, not particularly scary but it makes you feel every emotion possible. The Uncanny Counter is on Netflix, I'd say its the best show ever made... acting, plot, cgi etc is all at the very top tier and it also evokes many emotions
I feel like Hook is a perfect sequel to Peter Pan & nobody will ever be able to do it better even if they use the same script because Robin Williams was truly the perfect adult Peter!! He was always so great at expressing the range of emotions in characters, making them feel like real people you empathize with.
That terrified, weeping, pirate placed in the boo box was Glenn Close, who played Robin Williams' mother in The World According To Garp, also starring John Lithgow as his best friend. She is also known for The Big Chill and Fatal Attraction, all movies you should see. Smee was the lead human in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and I enjoyed his performance in Shattered. Jack appeared in What About Bob? starring Richard Dreyfuss and Bill Murray. The song sung by Peter's daughter was the only retained from those created for the film when it was still going to be a musical with Michael Jackson as Peter. This was Gwyneth Paltrow's first speaking role, as young Wendy. She's best known for Shakespeare in Love, and for playing Pepper Potts in the MCU. Please watch Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, Steel Magnolias, and My Best Friend's Wedding--and please watch Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, All the President's Men with Robert Redford, Tootsie with Bill Murray and Teri Garr, Dick Tracy, Meet the Fockers with Robert De Niro, Kramer vs. Kramer, Rain Man with Tom Cruise, and Kung Fu Panda!
And Maggie Smith (Wendy) is probably best known to modern audiences as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter series and as Violet Crawley in Downton Abbey
It's also good to mention that Glenn Close was also in Guardians of the Galaxy, she played the live action Cruella De Vil in both 101 & 102 Dalmatian film.
@@SevenEllen The beard helped a lot. Other cameos included David Crosby, Jimmy Buffett, Tony Burton (from Rocky) all as pirates, and George Lucas and Carrie Fisher as the couple kissing on the bridge in London.
I love that Peter's happy thought was a grown-up one. It's such a great way of respecting both aspects of his life. Just cause you're grown up doesn't mean you lose joy.
Robin Williams had great alertness and control, cornerstones of an actor, and that translated into great versatility. That's why Robin Williams is one of my favorite actors ever.
If you read the book you’ll find that there are references to the original play and book in almost every line of dialogue in this movie. It’s amazing. I love how you guys are almost speechless at the end. This movie defined my childhood. I borrowed it so many times from my grandma that she told me to keep it. I hadn’t seen it in several years now, but I still have it almost memorized to this day. And yes it is John Williams; it’s one of his most underrated underappreciated masterpieces.
"To live, will be an awfully big adventure!" *happy sobbing* I grew up in kids acting classes, singing the songs in the play Peter Pan, loving the book and any movies I could get my hands on! I hope you've reacted to Finding Neverland. This movie is incredible, and I grew up watching the musical with Mary Martin as Peter Pan.
Lots of the fun cameos already mentioned elsewhere. One of my favorite little pieces of trivia is that Dustin Hoffman can be heard before his appearance as Hook. He's the voice of the pilot on the airplane! "This is your captain speaking..."
I love darker and more grownup versions of fairy tales. This version is by far my favourite version, and is a great character piece. It feels routed in human emotion, making it FAR more relatable, and really speaks to an adult audience because with all the politics in the world today, we can often lose sight of what the freedom our old child like imagination once granted us. No other medium teaches morals or life lessons or even the realitys of life quite like the genre of fantasy and Fairy tales. Robin William's performance really sells that moral, as he can act the fool, the fun, and the mature all in one performance. Man what a legend. Dustin Hoffmans Hook is my equivalent to Heath Ledgers Joker. And this is by far one of John Williams best scores he's ever written. Plus, out of all fantasy genres, anything nautical related is soooooo up my street! Really enjoyed this reaction guys, and I'm so glad you found it as powerful as I did when I was a kid, and on a whole new level as an adult.
To round out this Peter Pan adventure, you guys really should watch Finding Neverland. A beautiful movie with Johnny Depp about the origins of the story.
This one is tied with 2003 Peter Pan, for me. I'd say I love 2003 Peter Pan more, but this movie feels like a sequel in spirit, and I always get the greatest emotion from watching them back-to-back. So they're tied. But I will say that these versions of Peter Pan and Hook are the best versions.
@@silversamurai0267 There's no point in picking IMO. They both do a marvelous job of storytelling and I think they make marvelous bookends of the Peter Pan story. To steal a phrase from Hoffman, "what would the world be like"... without either one in it? I don't care to know!
I'm so glad you guys liked Hook so much. It is one of my top Robin Williams movies and top 5 movies in general. I think you absolutely nailed it - Peter Pan from the adult perspective. Also, does it sting just a little bit for anyone else when Robin Williams talks about death? Just me? Okay. Anyway, great reaction, guys! Loved watching someone else fall in love with this movie!
I haven't seen this movie since Robin passed...so yeah...at the end when he says. "To live will be an awfully big adventure." the grief just washed over me all over again.
This is truly my absolute favorite Peter Pan film hands and hook down. I’ve actually been involved in two productions of Peter Pan. The first one was a version that we had wrote based on the book and I was Smee in that one. The second production I did was the actual Broadway production and I was one of the pirates. I recently learned that the moment Peter choose a Thud as his successor, the reactions are genuine. Spielberg and Robin Williams knew who would get the sword and kept quiet about it. So none of the Lost Boys ever knew who would be the successor. At the 25th anniversary, Dante Bosco as well as the other last boys squeeze backed into their lost boy costumes and honored Robin Williams, since he was not there to share a happy moment with them. RIP Robin Williams.
You guys started this reaction while I was at work, and I couldn’t wait, so I had you guys in my ear as I worked. This film was my life. It gets to me every time, and the music! The music always brings a tear; especially John Williams “Remembering childhood” track. I can never hear it without crying. Thank you for reacting to this and appreciating the work put into it. It was criticized negatively by critics at the time and I pity them and anyone who thinks the same; I see them as individuals who lost their imagination, because that itself is necessary to enjoy a film like this. Glad you had fun! Till next time :)) Bangerang!! 😁
@@whitenoisereacts it was a great shift. :) You guys made me laugh. And when the emotional moments were going on, I was struggling not to cry in front of my co workers but they still caught sight of my shiny eyes. LoL!
I just showed my best film buddy the movie Stardust. Some people just don't know what to feel or think about such movies, I mostly prefer to describe with the word "MAGICAL". 😍
Thanks a lot for the reaction you guys. I think this was a really well made sequel with really good actors including the children. They’re all such naturals! It was John Williams who did the score - well done in recognizing his music! And another trivia for you, the young adult Wendy was actually Gwyneth Paltrow, long before she was Pepper!😃
She wasn't the only cameo. The police detective was Phil Collins. The pirate who got hit in the balls by a board was David Crosby (of Crosby, Stills, and Nash). The pirate who got put in the Boo Box was Glenn Close. Jimmy Buffet was a pirate in there too. And of course, the couple kissing on the bridge who float in the air are George Lucas and Carrie Fisher.
I felt like in Peter Pan the moral is that even though the idea of staying a kid is alluring, there’s so much of life that you miss out on if you never grow up. And then the moral in hook is not exactly the opposite but, that if you completely forget and dismiss childhood and everything it means once you’ve grown up you also miss out on a lot of life, such as bonding with and relating to your children.
I honestly loved the design of the Jolly Roger (Hook's pirate ship) in this movie. Between the name, the skeleton figurehead and the massive skull-like aft section, it shows that this was a vessel dedicated to piracy; and Hook was the embodiment of piracy.
This was originally going to be a musical that had a Christmas Day release date 1985 from Paramount, but production of the movie was halted as Steven Spielberg was too busy working on Oscar nominated epics like The Color Purple, Empire Of The Sun, and Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade. After wrapping up Always in 1989, he finally got to make HOOK. Michael Jackson was considered to play Peter Pan, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with his concert venues. David Bowie, Tim Curry and Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones were considered for Captain Hook. Julia Roberts, Tinkerbell, did not like working with Spielberg at all, calling him a "selfish person and a man child who was difficult to work with." Crew members called her TinkerHELL, due to the onset drama between her and Spielberg. The movie was a box office success, making $300 million dollars against a $75 million dollar budget. It recieved mixed to negative Reviews by Critics, but has been considered a cult classic.
Fun fact: the actor who played the Captain of the plane the Bannings are on when they are heading to London is Dustin Hoffman, the same actor who played Hook in this movie! Loving the reactions, you two! :)
Man, I had forgotten how epic Hook really is, its great cast, all those layers and how bittersweet it truly it is. Thank you for that, for a proper, long reaction vid.
this is basically a perfect movie with incredible performances by two of the absolute greats. The sets the score the acting and the casting are just all incredible.
I agree! I LOVED this in the theater, watched it on VHS so many times when it came out . . . and was so confused when I found out many years later that this was almost universally hated. I showed it to my daughter a few weeks ago, and watching it as an adult really does make it even better.
So glad you reacted to this!! Also, fun fact, Dustin Hoffman (Hook) voices the captain of the plane at the start! So it’s like Hook was already controlling the situation
I grew up in the Bronx with James Madio who plays "Don't Ask" in Hook. He's been a solid working actor since Hook with his biggest exposure in Band of Brothers where he played Frank Perconte
I grew up with this movie, and I’m 24 now, and it still makes me cry every time. I can’t think of many movies at all that capture childlike joy, adventure, wonder, and nostalgia this well. Especially joy. Also I was very impressed that you identified the music as being composed by John Williams, JUST because of how good it was. Bravo! This is one of my favorite scores of his ever.
This film was originally supposed to be a musical, but Steven Spielberg wasn't happy with how it turned out, so all songs were cut except 'When you're alone''
So glad you reacted to Hook as well as the two Peter Pans. It has become an essential part of the story. All of Peter's "background lore" is accurate to the books -- he ran away to Kensington Gardens as a baby because he heard his mother talking about how he'd have to grow up one day, and Tink found him there and took him to Neverland. I'd also enjoy seeing you react to Finding Neverland. :-)
I loved this movie since I was a kid. Today, I can watch it feeling the Spielberg's features. The movie showed us how a busy father came back to think like a child. That return to childhood is very special; I dropped some tears remembering my first time watching this film.
I love how realistic peter feels at the beginning. Robin Williams genuinely reads as a stressed out parent thats over-obsorbed in his work. And the way his son just says "im sorry" after being screamed at is too realistic, I've been that child and ive seen that child too many times that it just hurts watching that scene. You can see the fear on the sister's face while she watches it happen, I've seen/been that child too. And that's such a hard thing to fake experiencing, there's a true look of fear and sadness on her face. The actors were perfectly chosen for this movie, they probably gave the best performance ever given by actors❤❤❤❤
My then 7 year old nephew watched this with me. He said the boy who said there you are Peter, when he pushed on his face & made him smile should have been the next pan. I always thought so too.
The idea with the croc at the end was that Neverland has the power to make beliefs real, like with the invisible feast etc When Hook touches the croc again for the first time in decades his hate and fear of mortality revives the croc long enough to consume Hook It's his literal fears manifesting to consume him.
All versions of the Peter pan movies always hit home for me (especially the 2003 version for some reason, don’t ask), but this one is on a whole other level, and I love it.
Thankyou for this reaction!!! I very much enjoyed your enjoyment. One thing I love about this movie is how the meta element (and I am a BIG fan of clever "meta") is NOT just a clever take on a familiar story but, surprisingly, turns out to be the meaning, the message and the heart of the story. It stays with you.
This is literally my all time favorite peter pan adaptation. I never really cared for peter pan until this film and I definitely credit that to Robin Williams also I have always wanted the food in this movie because the colors were so enticing lol
About 15-20 years ago, an official second book came out in the Peter Pan series. It's called Peter Pan Sees Red (I think) and it's an absolutely eye opening insight into the whole lore and I highly recommend it! It was officially recognized by the Olmond Children's Hospital
I remember watching this for the first time when I was 5 and my 3 older siblings chanting “Rufio! Rufio!” Before we even put the VHS into the VCR. I was so confused.
I first saw this movie on a black and white TV. So when I saw this movie first time in color, it was truly amazing. This movie is a classic and really enjoyed you two watching it!!!
The building tension on that scene where they come home to the house in shambles and the children gone is soooo good. Quite a few amusing cameos in this movie. Phil Collins is the police inspector to whom Tootles says he's forgotten how to fly, Carrie Fisher and George Lucas are the kissing couple that start floating off the bridge, and my favorite is Glenn Close as the pirate that gets thrown in the chest of scorpions for betting against Hook.
The last time I watched this movie I was still putting myself in the kids' shoes. Now that I'm a mum I'm pretty certain it would get a whole new dimension to it...but tears will always be on the menu, I think. Robin Williams trully was Peter Pan and will always be.
Dustin Hoffman and Bob Hoskins absolutely owned this movie. Hoskins loved playing Smee so much he ended up playing the character another production and did it perfectly. Maggie Smith also was perfect, as usual.
Can y'all please add the movie (Flubber) with Robin please? I miss Robin Williams so much, he was my favorite actor when I was a kid, and I still loved him as an adult.
I LOVE this reaction! And I love you guys getting hysterical over the baseball scene and the guy trying to steal second; classic! I love that you loved this movie--to me, it's Robin Williams' best, by far. Two bits of maybe unimportant trivia: the pirate in the early scene who gets thrown in the boo box is Glenn Close; she visited the set one day and they decided to give her a bit in the movie. And when Toodles flies off to Neverland in the last scene, he passes a couple on the bridge. The couple is George Lucas and Carrie Fisher; thought you'd appreciate that. I love how emotional you got over this, because this film deserves it. John Williams score was enchanting, and the sets and costumes are unbelievable. Spielberg at his very best.
You do realize that's the legendary Dame Maggie Smith-- akak Professor McGonagall-- as Wendy? We're so lucky that not only is she still with us, she's still as busy and brilliant as ever.
Thank you so much for reacting to this. Like many people this was my favourite film as a child and still in my top 10 of all time just for pure nostalgia. The scene where Peter remembers his past and flies out of the tree will always give me goosebumps and eyes fill with tears. Just all around fantastic!
@@shiro5239 I remembered watching power rangers back then when i was little but i actually forgot that he played that character until i rewatched the first power rangers movie.
Love how James was just utterly stunned at the end of this movie (and did I see a bit of misty eyes during? 👀). This movie is my childhood in a sense and to this day one of my absolute favorite movies. I believe Carrie Fisher and George Lucas are in little cameos in the background as well. People were so enchanted by this film that actors would stop by set and just want to be in it voluntarily (so the rumor goes). It is one of my favorite Robin Williams performances as well. Just…such a breathtaking film that reminds us all to never grow up entirely and protect our youthful sense of wonder. I still can’t get through this without crying 😂 Maggie Smith as older Wendy is such perfect casting too
I remember when this movie came out. Me and my cousins spent a whole summer wearing cut off jeans saying we were the Lost boys. lol. I love this movie. RIP Robin Williams
Thank you for watching. If you loved this one. You should really react to Return To Neverland the disney sequel and FINDING NEVERLAND with Johnny Depp.
I had tears in my eyes watching, but was laughing and smiling with you every step of the way. I lost my dad to covid and one of the most fondest childhood memories i have was watching this movie sat sharing sweets ( I was 7 years old when this movie was released)
The backstory of Hook's pre-production is just as interesting as the film itself. Maggie's Oscar-nominated was a remnant of the film's musical score, which included a Broadway show's worth of songs. Spielberg later said he chickened out of taking on the musical genre at the time, but after seeing his successful adaptation of West Side Story, I'm even more interested to see what a musical Hook would be like. So many films are turned into Broadway musicals and are so uninspired, but I could see this being an amazing stage musical. They've been flying actresses in the role of Peter in the musical since the 50s. It's always so cathartic to watch you guys experience films like this that are so close to my heart. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I have since I first saw it as a kid!
Strangely, we didn't do Peter Pan. I was in drama classes, and our big production was Little Shop of Horrors. I was going to play Audrey, but alas.. My illness ruined it for me by latching onto the sickness in the air at school. Blasted winter months, and students who just don't know how to cover their mouths. My understudy, from what I heard, did good. The gal doing Audrey II was talked about for the rest of the year, she nailed it - which sucks that I couldn't see her beyond rehearsals. It would have been so fun being there.
This is the first movie I can remember watching as a kid. It has such a special place in my heart. It made me fall in love with storytelling. If you guys haven't seen the movie Jack with Robin Williams, I highly recommend it. I know you'll both love it. By the way, you both seem like really genuine sweet boys. With good hearts. It's nice to see. I'm really enjoying binge watching these videos with you.
My favorite childhood movie. Saw it in theatres as a kid. I can watch it front to back, start over, and NEVER get tired of it. Also, fun fact: the couple kissing on the bridge in the beginning who start floating when Tink flies Peter to Neverland are George Lucas and Carrie Fisher.
This movie is my childhood - i had the pleasure of watching it on its 25th anniversary at the Long Center I think in Austin, the writer, his grown son that inspired him to write the story, Dante Basco (Rufio) and a couple of the lost boys were there and did a q&a (they mostly talked about Robin - you could tell how much he impacted them all). The best part was being in an audience of all fellow millennials - they gave us props, one being inflatable swords so we could attack our neighbors during battle scenes…what a treat.
I'm 38 years old and the week Robin Williams died back in 2014, I just cried and cried. I would randomly come across the clips from Hook on TH-cam and I would be hysterically crying. This film was such a childhood staple for me and my fellow 80's babies and 90's kids.
honestly had no clue until now that Dustin Hoffman plays Hook in this (which is sad because i love this movie to death)!! honestly that's so cool, he's such a great actor! i grew up knowing him from Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium, which is in my opinion one of the most underrated touching movies out there. it's not as action-packed as this one but it's super creative and fun (and just as heartfelt as this one i'd argue), i definitely recommend you guys reacting to it if you ever are interested!
When this movie first came out, I was the age of the kids and I completely empathized with Jack. This year I'm the same age Robin was when he made the movie, and I have a kid that age. I went from being Jack to being Peter, and the movie is as good as ever.
Hook is honestly one of my fav movies of all time. Loved it when I was a kid, and still love it now that I'm a grown-up. I've seen it sooo many time. XD I'm so glad you liked it too. :)
I grew up with this movie.. it came out when I was still young.. what a classic!! To this day I'll watch this movie not just for Nostalgia but a lot of the reason is Nostalgia LOL but it's just an awesome movie.. great storytelling great storytelling
I will never ever not break into tears as Moira does when she embraces her kids. That aside one of my favorite Robin Williams and Spielberg movies period.
I haven’t finished the video but I’m going to but I just watched the self deletion part, and remembered reading they Dustin and Bob couldn’t quite get there characters right but one of them said “let’s just read it like a couple of aging “queens” in a relationship and everything clicked. It’s hilarious to view their interactions this way even if untrue.lol
The day I write this comment, I am at my local comic convention and Dante Bosco aka Rufio is here! The voice and face of my childhood who loves his work as much as we do :)
My husband and I went to see this when it first came out and it impacted me. Back in the day of videos, we only purchased a few and this was one of them. I've watched it again a number of times and we still have it. It's one of my all time favorite movies.
Pretty great movie. You HAVE to watch 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' (1988) . It has people + animated characters at the same time, it's a classic. We loved it growing up. Bob Hoskins is in it (he's Smee in Hook) as well as Christopher Lloyd. And apparently a lot of people had the hots for Jessica Rabbit even though she's a cartoon lol
I loved this movie as a kid and its still a fantastic watch, I can't believe it was dumped on by the critics when it was released, theres just so much good work here!

True story. The Monday morning after this movie came out, I went into work and found my boss's house keys on my desk with a note "please feed the cats while we're gone" (which I'd done before but this time no warning.) He called in later in the day with his story: He saw Hook over the weekend. Awww that is so sweet!
Nice Disney ad there buddy. Just kidding. Or am. No I am. Or...
now this is just beautiful ❤
That's awesome. It reminds me of a story I heard about the original little mermaid movie, where a father searched for his estranged daughter and made up with each other, all because he watched the movie and was effeted by its message. I heard that on its dvd commentary. Ah, the power of fairy tales.
Awwwwwwwww
"Oh, there you are Peter" gets me every time
Yusssss!
And, “Peter…. Don’t you know who you are?” Shows him the book.
I love how dramatic Hook is that he seems to regularly threaten suicide, so much so that Smee barely even reacts anymore. "Oh, not again."
True, but he has been suffering from kill Peter Pan blue balls for 2-3 decades so I'm willing to give him a break on that 😂
"Smee you better get off your ass and stop me this is not a Joke I'm committing suicide here!" Captain Jas Hook

It's also interesting to think that he couldn't eat it at first - he was literally starving in the midst of plenty!
Modern movies treats kids like idiots and parents are overly sensitive. Plus modern movies have ass writing and no soul
The scene where they come home and find the house ransacked hits WAY different as an adult/parent.
My dad said he saw this in theaters and he was like, “That was all right, not bad.”
Then I was born and he gets so effing emotional watching this; Hook is now one of his favorite movies.
That's a glorious thought.
My favorite movie, rip Robin Williams
Same 😭
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned (nor am I totally sure it isn't a bit of movie apocrypha, but I really enjoy it as a tidbit), but in the scene toward the end where Peter chooses a new leader for the Lost Boys by giving him his sword, none of the kids knew who it was actually going to be when they filmed it. All of those looks of anticipation are genuine, as is the reaction of the kid it got passed to. Which is cool.
I'm so happy you've done Hook. It's my favourite version on Pan, the nostalgia and I even remember crying to this as a kid
I still cry at almost 37 years of age now. 😅
Every time.
This movie is just magical......
But I'm planning to watch Train To Busan with a friend of mine soon, maybe around halloween time either this year or next year.
@@Molly.Wobbles My Girl is brutal. I agree. Have you seen Bridge To Terabithia? 😅
I love Dustin Hoffman as Hook. I met Rufio, Dante Basco, at Comic Con. He voices one of the characters from Avatar the Last Air Bender.
Lucky!!
Why don't you just say Zuko it's a pretty big deal like we're not talking about a one off character🤣
He seems like a nice fellow :)
His niece played Cassandra Cain in the Harley Quinn Birds of Prey film.
@@BlackGirlMarvel that was a terrible movie. I hated it.
Oh my god! I would never have guessed in a million years! She plays a man very well.
@@SevenEllen The beard helped a lot. Other cameos included David Crosby, Jimmy Buffett, Tony Burton (from Rocky) all as pirates, and George Lucas and Carrie Fisher as the couple kissing on the bridge in London.
Phil Collins is the detective. And obviously Avatar tLA's Zuuko is Rufio.
As a kid I cried during this movie. And as an adult, I still cry. Its so beautiful! There is no other word to describe this movie
My kid sister's first word was Hook because she wanted to watch this movie over and over again 😭
"Looky, looky, I got Hooky!" 😢
Absolutely, I've said it on your previous PP reaction you have to watch Finding Neverland, beautifully magical film.
I second this
Up
Love the random Glenn Close cameo. Famous for her role as Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmatians. She the guy that got put into the boo box at the start 🤣
incredible. I never would have known!
If anyone tells you this isnt their favorite version of Peter Pan they are lying…
They could just have bad taste. But I'll say, as long as it's ONE of their favorites, I'm good.
Good luck with work man!! Bangerang!!
@@whitenoisereacts it was a great shift. :) You guys made me laugh. And when the emotional moments were going on, I was struggling not to cry in front of my co workers but they still caught sight of my shiny eyes. LoL!
Because this movie IS life. One of Spielberg's finest and definitely his most critically underrated.....
I just showed my best film buddy the movie Stardust. Some people just don't know what to feel or think about such movies, I mostly prefer to describe with the word "MAGICAL". 😍
Total truth. This movie is something special for people with imagination and creativity. Like me.... 😊🥰
Sequel? To what? I’m confused.
@@jeanine6328 why, sequel to the original Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie of course!😉
One of my favorite lines in life, "What would the world be life without Captain Hook?"
This is the most beautiful perfect way to look at this.
Rufio! Rufio! Ru-fi-ooooo! Everyone loved Rufio back in the day.
Julia Roberts, Tinkerbell, did not like working with Spielberg at all, calling him a "selfish person and a man child who was difficult to work with."
Crew members called her TinkerHELL, due to the onset drama between her and Spielberg.
The movie was a box office success, making $300 million dollars against a $75 million dollar budget. It recieved mixed to negative Reviews by Critics, but has been considered a cult classic.
I love this movie but IMAGINE how amazing it would have been with David Bowie!
@@JoyfulOrb holy shot, king of the goblins AND hook sjhdkjhdhdhs BRILLIANT
Fun fact: the actor who played the Captain of the plane the Bannings are on when they are heading to London is Dustin Hoffman, the same actor who played Hook in this movie! Loving the reactions, you two! :)
Man, I had forgotten how epic Hook really is, its great cast, all those layers and how bittersweet it truly it is. Thank you for that, for a proper, long reaction vid.
this is basically a perfect movie with incredible performances by two of the absolute greats. The sets the score the acting and the casting are just all incredible.
Robin Williams as Peter and Dustin Hoffman as Capt Hook was amazing. Such great casting. Rip Williams.
And RIP Bob Hoskins, Smee
I don't know if you guys realize but Smee is Bob Hoskins. The same guy as Eddie Valiant in Roger Rabbit and a well respected British actor!
I remember seeing this as a kid in theaters and thinking it was a pretty cool movie. Now watching it as an adult it's such a touching movie 😭
Do we know who wrote the songs?
@@oliverbrownlow5615 John Williams and Leslie Bricusse
A few of the songs are still within the score, but only in instrumental form.
Well, there is the Lost Boy's training montage which is kind of a musical.
Had Spielberg done any musicals at all before _West Side Story_ ?
This is probaably my favorite childhood movie of all time. It was always just so magical.
My then 7 year old nephew watched this with me. He said the boy who said there you are Peter, when he pushed on his face & made him smile should have been the next pan. I always thought so too.
The idea with the croc at the end was that Neverland has the power to make beliefs real, like with the invisible feast etc
When Hook touches the croc again for the first time in decades his hate and fear of mortality revives the croc long enough to consume Hook
It's his literal fears manifesting to consume him.
I'm not crying - You're crying!
Every time I watch it. Great job guys 💜
I remember i had a huge crush on rufio back in the day. Dante basco is also the voice actor for zuko from avatar the last airbender

This is literally my all time favorite peter pan adaptation. I never really cared for peter pan until this film and I definitely credit that to Robin Williams also I have always wanted the food in this movie because the colors were so enticing lol

Excellent call, it IS John Williams!
Ok cool!!
One of my childhood favorites. Another tremendous John Williams score, the theme of Peter remembering is top tier.
What what your favorite Robin Williams role in the movies, besides the Genie from Disney’s Aladdin and Aladdin And the King of Thieves ?

I still can’t get through this without crying 😂 Maggie Smith as older Wendy is such perfect casting too

I watched this as a kid and was heartbroken when Rufio died; he was 100% my type!

XD
