Why does everyone feel like they have to pick a favorite of the two? Can't we love them both? Without each other, I don't think they would have ever even started making videos by themselves. Them together is such a powerful combination.

Lmao the other explanation for the Instagram hashtag thing is that "and link" were separated by spaces, and that's generally not how hashtags works. So it took #rhett and filled in the most popular folks based on that.

The company that owned Smosh (and other channels), Defy Media, was selling them, and the Smosh people were losing everything they created. Rhett & Link found out, swooped in, and saved them. What!?! I for sure thought their Never Wet episode would be one of their top videos! That was among the first videos of theirs I watched, I think. It's a little fuzzy because of the stuff going on then but I think it went like, I had maybe seen two videos of theirs or something, then on my own I had been looking at waterproof sprays for my camping boots, and over the several days of looking that stuff up a clip of them pouring wine on themselves and freaking out was featured on a page, then I went and watched the entire episode and went on to watch more of their stuff. I know their reactions to the Never Wet clothes has popped up in places that didn't have to do with them at all. It's awesome.

It must be because Rhetts’ name is first. Remember, hashtags are associative when you’re searching -and the results are coded to begin with the word Rhett ______.
Hashtags just aren’t deciphering enough to understand “Link Neal” and place it Rhett and Link.

I was thinking about this the other day. The good news is that if it does affect them, they have other resources like their online store, the mythical society, etc. to generate revenue so it's not just their youtube channels. I don't think it's anything to worry about on their end. It seems like it could be pretty bad for a lot of other smaller youtubers though :/

@@xoskyxo3168 basically come 2020 all channels will have to specify weather their channel is "for kids", meaning a child may be interested in it, family friendly content like GMM definitely counts, if a video is considered for kids it will make 90% less money , be unsearchable and unable to notify its subscribers, also no comments. If the video is listed as not for kids and TH-cam disagrees then The channel could face a fine of up to $42k
