Nice work, and nice videoing. I used to use discared "fireline" I found when fishing, until people actually seemed to stop throwing much of it in nature - good for nature, thanks to them - to tie things, that need tightness, and the thicker the thread the less it cuts through the hairs when tighetned hard. To form the body you can also use a hair trimmer or a Dremmel.

great video young man. I don’t the professionly but blessed to have more material than a lot of fly shops. iam. down to425-450 colors of deer hair . some patches sink , floats, or just below surface floating. according to where I cut my deer hides . I dye them to colors I developed my self . hackles 80-100 colors. it’s wonderful when using my fly rods or regular rod and reels to catch fish with your own flys and lures you made . I give away hundreds normally every year. most people I give them to use regular rods and reels with spoon wire jigs and split shots with great success after telling them how to properly use them. I only ask them to let me know what kinds of fish they catch and which works best for them. a friend came by months ago I guess I gave him around one hundred or more and didn’t put a dent in my private stock pile. that means I get to make more to replace them. Nana and papa from the foothills of the blue ridge mountains in NC wishing you well.

@15:35, those are double-edged razor blades. You want them flexible so you can curve them while cutting the deer hair. Single-edged blades have a thick edge to hold them and they won’t flex.

This is not necessarily the correct way to spin and stack deer hair. He missed some crucial steps and techniques obviously has not learned correct deer hair spinning and you can see the gaps and inconsistencies after he cuts the fly you can see the top color blends into the bottom. Anyhow watch more videos on deer hair spinning. Note I'm sure these flys do great out there.

For what its worth-this is a video for just stacking deer hair,¬ for spinning...he has another video on spinning it.
